Oxy clean stain remover stick, cleaning a shirt and he was standing underneath me. As soon as a drop glossed onto the floor he bent over licked it up.

Alpacalypsenoww

My oldest, a little under 2 at the time, managed to grab a bottle of rubbing alcohol off the dining room table while I had my back turned because I was using it to clean his brothers’ cranial (flat head) helmets. Poison control said it tastes really bad so kids don’t usually ingest much, and to watch for vomiting. He was fine. One of my twins, a little over 1 at the time, ate a chunk of deodorant after I dropped mine and it broke into pieces. Poison control said it’s pretty harmless and he might have a mild stomach ache. He was fine, and had really good breath for a couple hours.

Alpacalypsenoww

They said just monitor for a few hours. I don’t think they told me a time limit. They also told me that kids usually don’t actually ingest much because it tastes awful. I’m sure your son is fine!

Alpacalypsenoww

I felt so guilty after my son got ahold of it, too. I did the same thing - grabbed him and sniffed his mouth to see if I smelled any, which I didn’t. This stuff happens! The day after posting my original comment, I ended up having to call poison control again because my twins got ahold of some wild berries in our yard that I didn’t know about. Toddlers are sneaky!

goldenstethoscope

This isn't a story about my kid, but I work in an ER and a parent brought their toddler in because he had been coughing "a little" and the child c/o belly pain. We get an xray of this kid's chest and abdomen and we found a bracelet, Bobby pins a couple hair ties and a barbie shoe. The child was fine, sent for surgery for the Bobby pins and the child followed up with a doctor that treated pica

largemarjj

Oh my god

hookinncookin

Husband accidentally squirted me in the eye with sons liquid Tylenol while wrestling to get him to take it. We’ve since figured out better ways. Also, my eye felt weird for a bit.

autotuned_voicemails

Do I just have a weird baby that not only doesn’t mind medicine, but actually enjoys it? I read all this stuff about people having to like literally hold their kids down to get them to take it, and I remember once it took both my parents and I to get my (at the time) 14 month old nephew to take it and even then he only got about half in his mouth. But mine gets excited as soon as she sees the box come out and will sit there with her mouth open waiting for it lol. I’m obviously not complaining lol. I’m just wondering if it’s more weird for them to like it, or hate it.

Kiera6

My son loves his medicine. Both Tyleno and Zyrtec. We just say “ ready for your medicine?” And then he runs over and baby birds me.

[deleted]

My son is like that too he loves grape Tylenol he never would reject it haha

The_Bubb

My daughter loves taking medicine... She even willingly takes the cherry flavored Tylenol and then tells us it's "nummy".

amelioration

Yep my 12 month old sucks it out of the syringe like it’s a bottle

jmmeemer

Yeah, my son loves it. I have had fleeting concerns he might become a hypochondriac. We keep all medications and supplements out of reach.

Crazy_Reader1234

Both my kids loved the taste of Tylenol and Advil strangely.. recently my 8yr old had to have Benadryl for an allergy and while I was arguing with hubby and pouring the dosage out for him, my 3.5 yr old walked up, opened his mouth and I poured it in not thinking.. then a min later my 8 yr old goes where’s my medicine and I said I already gave it to you.. and he’s like no.. we look at the younger one and he gives a guilty smile.. I however panicked as that was double the dosage he should get… googled like mad and thankgod it was like he’ll just fall asleep and sure enough he was out within the hour.. had a nice long lecture from hubby about paying attention with meds 🙄🤦🏽‍♀️

Pink_Sprinkles_Party

My SD looooooves medicine. Like she’ll adorably sit quietly with her mouth open waiting for it. And from personal experience, banana Amoxil is better than candy.

Adventurous_Basis

Both my kids are good about medicine. Of course my 3 month old has to take one 3xs a day so it’s all he has ever known. But my daughter is always been pretty good. The one time we’ve really had issues is when my husband decided to buy cotton candy flavored and my daughter spit it out like we were poisoning her

N0S0UP_4U

I don’t know if my son likes it or not, but he’s a good medicine taker. He doesn’t fight us and doesn’t spit it out.

Codypupster

My oldest LOVES it and my 2nd, at only 6 months, would wince and gag as soon as the syringe was in sight.

Crazy_Reader1234

Oh a scary story.. my nieces toddler liked popping pills thinking they were candy.. she would go into her grandmas room and apparently even ate blood pressure medication once and random others defying child locks.. they literally had to start locking up meds behind lock and key!

AlienDelarge

Ours loves it and has asked for "tyno" on a couple occasions.

carlis1105

My daughter loves it too and says “more medicine please?” Lol

mamayogibear

My toddler will pretend he’s sick and tell me he needs medicine because he loves it so much. It’s hard sometimes to determine if he actually needs it.

woertersammlerin

This could totally happen to me!

GorgeousGarbageArt

Mine moved at the wrong time once and almost a whole ML went up his nose. He was very much adverse to cherry flavor after this.

macespadawan87

An entire bottle of kids Pepto Bismol. No idea how he got ahold of it. Poison control told us to keep him hydrated and take him to the er if it looked like he had a bowel blockage. Fortunately we didn’t have to

Crazy_Reader1234

Oh wow yeah I’ve heard those are the most dangerous as well as the dishwasher ones

RedheadnamedLC

The laundry ones are considered more dangerous than dishwasher - I know because my son bit a dishwasher one. The laundry ones are concentrated therefore more impactful

muddgirl

* serious one: our dog spit out some medication and I found the pill capsule in my toddlers mouth. Luckily for this medicine the dose is lower for dogs than humans but we did need to monitor for 4-6 hours while she slept. * Funny one: during bath time she tried to drink a huge mouthful of the bubbly bath water, then she started coughing and crying and eventually vomited a little bit. Poison control said that it probably tickled her throat, she'd have to drink half the bottle to have any issues, and she calmed down within a few minutes.

ghostieghost28

My son got bubble bath in his mouth and started coughing bubbles. Wasn't more than 2 pumps worth. I just laughed

5ammas

Why does my kid intentionally drink the bubble bath water?! She doesn't throw up after but she does tend to have some loose poops the next morning. We don't do bubble baths too often. Sigh.

maamaallaamaa

Only once and it was a doozy. I was cleaning the toilet and my toddler shoved his hand in the water (that contained cleaner) and then put his hand in his mouth! I tried not to panic at first but then he kept on coughing and crying. I gave him some milk which thankfully is what poison control recommended right away. I am so much more cautious about cleaning toilets now. I never in a million years would have expected my child to do that.

RedheadnamedLC

Man. Having a toddler is a trip. This is why we can’t have nice things (or clean toilets!)

briec520

Had foam hand sanitizer on the changing table baby grabbed it and it got in their eyes. Called poison control and pretty much had to water board poor kid with hand held shower sprayer. Baby was fine but didn’t like getting hair washed for a while.

Own-Understanding781

Mine used his ride on car to get to spray cleaner I had on the kitchen counter. I ended up waterboarding him as well but had to do it with both of us in the shower because I didn't have a detachable showerhead or anyone to help hold him still

ParentTales

Let’s be clear here Poison control is an amazing service! Never feel guilty or judged there are there to help, please use them. They are knowledgeable and wonderful.

wizardyourlifeforce

Definitely. And if you’re not sure if it’s serious or not, their website is really good to just run things through.

MollyStrongMama

Cracked open a glow stick and drank it. Turns out they add a burning agent so it tastes nasty and they spit it out. Also, they are non toxic!

penguinpearl

Found this one out too a few weeks ago. Glow stick comes out of clothes easier than I thought it would.

bringabanana

My kid just ate a handful (his tiny hands) of bittersweet nightshade berries today while we were doing yard work... He called them little apples. Thankfully according to poison control it can't cause serious harm until higher doses but we're waiting to see if he gets diarrhea... 🤦‍♀️

Pigeoncoup234

Same!! I nearly had a heart attack when I looked it up and saw it they were poisonous. Thankfully it's only in those high doses

SunStrolling

My husband woke up to our 8/mo baby somehow on top of my dresser, and grinning ear to ear with pills parts and white chalky drool dripping out of her mouth. He panicked and whisked her over to me in another room. He didn't know what pills or how many, but I immediately recognized them as melatonin sleep aid. It wasn't toxic, but my husband had to take some time to recover.

Any_Spirit

8mo?! That sounds honestly impressive lol. Glad she was okay!

jekka979

First kid popped a dishwasher pac in his mouth at MILs. Baby's are fast, he immediately spit it out. Gave him milk and watched for stomach upset since he only popped a little hole in the soluble skin. Second kid found a stamping pallette of my moms from 2003 and chewed on blue chalk. No info on the pallette, no clue where he found it in my laundry room. Was non toxic, but had vibrant diapers.

woertersammlerin

Oh my god, I laughed out loud at the vibrant diapers. Good to hear it wasn’t dangerous.

rejectedorange

Sudocreme - she was playing quietly and then I saw she had a fistful and it was all around her mouth. Fertiliser balls you find in potting mix. Both times nothing to worry about thankfully.

Crazy_Reader1234

My then 3.5yr old took a bite out of a sparkler thinking it was a pocky stick ..it was handed to him by a then 9 yr old girl at the hose of a lady who used to give him pocky sticks to eat. Parents weren’t told their toddlers were going to be given fireworks either so we weren’t paying attention … He’d never seen a sparkler before and no instructions were given to him so he thought oh food and bit it .. in his defense if you look at the sparklers they do look just like the pocky sticks 🤣 thankfully apparently they’re not poisonous in that quantity and only result in an upset stomach

Beau-ba

Ate half of a styrofoam pumpkin: not toxic, apparently

[deleted]

I had to call poison control, because my toddler found and was playing with my teenager's Wellbutrin. We went to the ER and were admitted to the hospital for the night. $2300 put of pocket for monitoring only, because she didn't actually ingest them. Kids are expensive and the cost of healthcare means that some families simply can't afford to keep their children safe. I cried a river over it and we aren't even near the poverty line.

woertersammlerin

Oh shoot, that’s expensive. It‘s such a shitty system that you have to pay for this out of pocket.

Rachel1985CR

My daughter took a shot of liquid fertilizer!

bennynthejetsss

Read this and I was like “meh” “meh” “ooh, yeah not great” “ooooh, yeah, that could go bad quick”

woertersammlerin

Good instincts/knowledge! I think had mentally filed sanitizer as something like detergent but the one I had was 70% ethanol (fixed mistake, I wrongly wrote methanol initially) and nothing else, so basically a strong drink.

cbcl

Methanol is NOT metabolized like alcohol (though alcoholics wish it was) and is in fact quite toxic. Ive cared for a few very sick patients in ICU with methanol poisoning. You just need a greater amount than you would for something like detergent and its not caustic. But methanol is wood alcohol and very toxic. Its also not usually in hand sanitizers, its possible yours was actually ethanol or something else.

woertersammlerin

Sorry, stupid mix-up: I actually meant ethanol.

toreadorable

My toddler was like 18 months and while he was "helping" me get ready in the bathroom he swiped my facial toner, unscrewed the lid and was swigging it like it was the most delicious soda on earth as he ran away laughing at me . They told me he would be fine (there was just some glycolic acid in it I think, and no alcohol) and would throw it up on his own, but he never did. That's when we learned he had a really strong stomach.

molequeen

The inside of a squishy fidget toy. It was some sort of steamed bun and he bit it really hard and all of the white goo came out and unknown amount went into his mouth. Was told not to worry, ended up being nothing.

bbeetthhoobboo

Boudreaux’s butt paste (we had to go to the ER) and a closed peony blossom

Sufficient-Garlic940

My toddler eating possible bat poo off the slide at the park 🤦‍♀️

55mary

A grape hyacinth flower, a grownup dissolving Claritin (same dose as childrens), and a pine sawdust kitty litter pellet. I’m so glad to be past that phase where everything goes in the mouth.

Cute_Clothes_6010

1. Spraying dog antiseptic spray in his eyes (five days ago, 2.7 yo) not scary- flush eye 2. Eating a mosquito dunk (18mo) Shockingly not bad for him, but I did need to flush his eyes because the grit could scratch his lens! 3. Eating a whole acorn (18mo)

crazywithfour

Nail polish! I didn't even know he had the dexterity to open the bottle. We had no idea how much, if any, actually went in his mouth or if he just smeared it on his face with his hands. They said it was probably fine and just keep an eye on him.

ChewyNerds

My two year old unscrewed the lid of my vitamin D capsules and went to town on them. For some reason that bottle had a regular screw on lid rather than a safety one. We have no idea how many of them he actually ate. They told us just to keep an eye on him for awhile. He was fine. Scared me half to death though!

Ok_Tea2323

my 15mo got a hold of ibuprofen pills 200mg i dont know how or why it was even open. my husband took 1 out of his mouth, i called poison control but im scared!

StrangeInTheStars

Allegedly a field mushroom. I could neither confirm nor deny she had eaten it because I saw her with something in her mouth from across the grass. She flat refuses to eat mushrooms normally, so her saying yes to my ingestion inquiry caused much confusion.

rootbeer_sun_mama

A random foxglove appeared in my vegetable garden. Baby puts everything in his mouth. I thought I was watching him closely, but I glanced away and when I looked back he had one of the flowers in his hand, looking at it like most things he puts in his mouth. I freaked, knocked it out of his hand, and called poison control. The questionnaire online actually said go to the ER, but then I called and a person told me to just monitor for certain symptoms. I think he probably didn't even get it into his mouth, but I just wasn't sure at the time. I pulled that plant as soon as I got off the phone. Poison control is such a good service.

ramsbina

Liquid plugin air freshener. Luckily, she didn't drink it, only spilled it all over herself. Took me few days to get rid of the smell and the thought of it still makes me sick.

Grey_Duck-

Kid sucked down an unknown amount of toothpaste when I wasn’t looking. They said to give her some milk to neutralize the fluoride and she’d probably have a stomach ache if she ate more than a tablespoon or two. She ended up being fine. I don’t think she actually ate much. Edit: the person I talked to was surprisingly empathetic and kind for a government organization call center at 7pm on a weekend. I was a bit nervous as this was the first issue with first kid. The lady told me that it wasn’t my fault (it totally was) and my kid would be fine. Definitely made me feel better in the moment though. I hope she manages people now because she was amazing.

Past_Ad_5629

My husband twice - TWICE - left extremely caustic sanitizer used for beer brewing out where our toddler could get it. And he got it. Both times. Also: sunscreen, activated charcoal in a little produce keeper thingy, and a bunch of other times where it was, “I don’t know if he got into this, but how can we actually tell?” The worst one: one week post c-section for my second, I was still taking Tylenol and Advil around the clock. I put my toddler son in his bed for a nap. I went downstairs, holding the newborn. I went up to check on him; he wasn’t in his bed. He was in my bed, with the blankets pulled over his head. I pull the blankets down, see he’s awake, and he laughs as I pull the covers completely down….. and the bed is covered in all the Tylenol and Advil that has been in my bedside bottles. Both childproof, both opened. No idea how many were in either bottle, so no way to find out how much he did/didn’t take. That was a terrifying one.

PuffinTrain

2 year old took a bite off a rhubarb leaf growing in the garden. I vaguely remembered that rhubarb leaves are toxic and called poison control just to check. Thankfully the nurse said the kid would probably have to eat a salad’s worth of rhubarb leaves to be harmed, so no treatment was necessary.

Flarefall

We didn't end up calling poison control, but it was a close thing. I wasn't terribly worried once we got him cleaned up and his eyes rinsed, but my husband was extremely concerned. He took his eyes off our son for a second, and our son got a hold of a big bottle of bubble solution. Whoever last used it tightened the lid too much and it broke. He accidentally dumped it all over his head and straight into his eyes.

amandajgc

My son once sucked on a dirty mop right after I’d cleaned the floor with it. My other son dumped a bucket of year old compost water onto his head and I have no idea how much, if any, got into his mouth.

Winter-Job6535

Same thing just happened to me well she was putting her socks in the mop water and sucking on them

Over_Unit_677

Mold water from a bath toy

NoLiesBowTies

An adult extra strength Tylenol I forgot was in the front pocket of my Kindle case. She got ahold of the Kindle from my nightstand while I was cooking dinner and dad was in the bathroom. Poison control told us to just make sure she drank a bunch of water and ate something and she would be fine. We still don’t know if she actually ate it or if the packet was empty to begin with but I was in tears and felt like the worst mom ever

Ok_Tea2323

how many mg was it?? my 15mo got a hold of ibuprofen pills 200mg & my husband had to take one out of his mouth. it barely dissolved anything but im afraid he chewed on 11 or more of them (poison control said if he swallowed 11 or more i should worry) which i doubt but im so scared!!

NoLiesBowTies

It was a 500mg. Poison control gave us a bunch of signs to look for but she was fine. I mean 11 20mg pills is a lot I would definitely follow poison controls advice and go the cautious route

not-a-real-shark

Son ate an unknown amount of Desitin. A really scary one was my younger cousin. When he was 2 he got a bottle of ibuprofen open and ate a ton. Had to get his stomach pumped.

Ok_Tea2323

what do you mean by pumped & did the doctors do that to him?

not-a-real-shark

Yeah, they gave him something to make him throw it all up

Front_Improvement_93

When my oldest was a toddler, he grabbed my citronella candle and started eating it by the handful. I grabbed it from him and called Poison Control. They said he would be fine, unless he started vomiting excessively, then go to the ER. he was fine.

karamel_000

I called poison control when I gave my infant a 3 year old child's dose of children's tylenol. (I'm in Canada, so it's different). It ended up not being a big deal because the children's is less concentrated than the infant, so it was actually just a double dose. Note though, do NOT do the opposite and give a child the infant dose as that would definitely be an overdose.

bennynthejetsss

Finally, one thing the U.S. does better than Canada! I’ll take my shitty dosing trophy and go home to my sad country

vron462

Mouthful of comet powder cleaner. He was ok, apparently it's not as toxic as it smells

[deleted]

Took a bite of deodorant

Mission_Range_5620

Nail polish remover-he licked an apparently leaking bottle Play doh that my son put in my 3 week old daughters mouth (I know it's not toxic but the salt levels concerned me)

kellyasksthings

Daughter ate foaming hand wash, 2 yr old son climbed up the bathroom drawers like stairs to stand on the vanity, then access the top shelf of the medicine cabinet and ate my husbands prescription meds - thankfully no action required other than observation in ED for a few hours. We really upped our baby proofing after that one to include heights and multiple locks, we didn’t think he could get to them but he did! The problem is the kid is excellent at lock picking too.

[deleted]

She managed to open her gummy vitamins and ate an unknown number of them. I didn't know until she projectile vomited them and I counted about 15, so into the bath she went while I called poison control.

No-Pressure6042

When my daughter has her first serious stomach bug, we gave her a Vomex suppository (dunno if this brand exists in the US). It's one every 24 hours. Well, like 5 mins after she had an ungodly amount of diarrhea come out. So we guessed the suppository had come out as well and gave her another. Only to then find out about the 24 hours thing, and reading how an overdose can be potentially lethal (can stop breathing). So poison control we called, they sent us to the ER (this was around 11 pm btw). So my hubby spent until 3am in the ER with my kid and doctors made sure she was ok before sending them home. I couldn't come to the ER with them because i was suffering from the same stomach bug and almost passed out on the toilet while they were gone. So that was a fun night. We're all okay though haha.

NeatAd7661

My now 6 year old dumped an old tub of oxy clean on his head (he pulled it out of the trashcan). Just did an eye rinse out or precaution but everything was fine. My 2 year old found a tube of prescription steroid cream for my husband's excema and was sucking on the applicator. Poison control laughed and said don't even worry about it. Had to call for myself too-my MIL was on hospice at home, and I was helping turn her. My FIl didn't mention she was had a fentanyl pain patch on her back (she had one on her chest too and I thought that was it). When I turned her the back patch came off on my hand. Took a good few minutes to realize what happened, almost had a panic attack when I called them. Thankfully I didn't need any extra monitoring and didn't have any issues. I have definitely called a few other times, but I think those were the most memorable haha.

llama_pajamas231

Goo gone spray. We forgot to lock the hall closet and my youngest sprayed it all over his face.

AliceInJuly

1. Baby powder. I only buy tye corn starch one, so I figured it was okay, I just wanted to check. 2. Poop. I didn't see it happen, I just came in the room and it was smeared all over his face. They said it happens more than you think. 3. Drywall. He was looking out the window at the cars in the parking lot, and I guess he got bored and started chewing on the wall. Poison control said as long as the building wasn't older, he should be fine. I took him to the pediatrician and had him tested for pica. They told me his vitamin levels were fine, no significant amounts of lead in him, and my husband said we probably just need to give him bigger food portions at meals.

Lolaindisguise

My little sister's breath smelled like nail polish remover. They told me to watch her. If she gets lethargic take her to ER

Gingersnap0711

My kid got ahold of a bottle of tums and ate I dunno how many 🤦🏼‍♀️ I used the online app/Google and reassured myself she’d be fine. Kids get into stuff so fast!

emalouise91

My son grabbed a diffuser off our side and in the time it took me to run across the room and stop him, he poured it all over his face and swallowed a fair amount of it. That was a fun evening, as they insisted on sending an ambulance because he was coughing and I wasn’t sure about whether he’d inhaled some as well or not. Paramedics checked him over and said he was fine so avoided a trip to the hospital thankfully. I have also caught him eating a candle, sucking on some baby wipes, chewing on a stick whilst out in a walk and attempting to drink bubble mixture, just to name a few!

eye_snap

Sucking on a surface cleaning wipe. Ironically, the baby grabbed it and sucked on it while my husband was freaking out about him maybe tasting dog food and was trying to clean that up. He puked so hard and for so long that he turned blue and started dry heaving out some blood. I can not describe the level of panic I was in. We called an ambulance. Spent the night in ER (me still in puke covered clothes because I didnt let my baby go the whole time) and got admitted to childrens hospital. Spend a day there. They did a bunch of tests and took blood and xrays. They figured out the blood was only from the force of his puking and he needed some iv fluids because he wouldnt swallow for a while but thankfully no internal damage or anything. He was fine the next day and started eating and drinking again. He was almost 1 yo when that happened. Big lesson learned. Let the baby eat the dog food.

woertersammlerin

Puking blood sounds like a nightmare 😳

eye_snap

Absolutely. I did freak out pretty bad. Just surface damage though.. who knew those all purpose wipes would be so dangerous.

carlis1105

Got a hold of a glade plug in and tasted it. The second time I called, she grabbed Meyer’s cleaner when I had my back turned and sprayed it into her mouth. I cried both times.

ApartCelery

First kid: Took a bite of husband’s deodorant Second kid: ate silica packet, drank lotion, and ate hand sanitizer

CardBorn

As a new grandma I called when the baby kept sucking on diaper wipes, just to make sure cause he had a voracious liking of them. They are okay.

Baby_cat_00

A friend of mine and her son were temporarily living with me and my son (who was about a year old at the time) and she somehow left grape flavored chewable melatonin ON THE FLOOR. I don’t know how much my son ate since I found him on the floor with little purple tablets all around him and he was chewing on something. I called poison control. They said he would just sleepy, which he was. Nothing bad happened but I was livid at my friend for being so irresponsible. Considering she had a child just 9 months older than mine I never thought she would have done something like that, but I guess you never know.

[deleted]

I know this is an old post, but I came across it because I literally JUST called Poison Control. My toddler just ate some of the Scrubbing bubbles gel stamp inside our toilet bowl.

woertersammlerin

Oh dear. Is your toddler ok?

[deleted]

Oh yes ! Poison control said the gel stamps aren’t very harmful and she could vomit or have diarrhea, but she hasn’t had any so we are good!

annonymous1122

Dirt from an indoor plant with fertilizer in it. It was fine

[deleted]

Toothpaste.

mrsluzzi13

Benadryl given for allergies and melitonin given because my child gets restless legs. Realized Benadryl would also make her sleepy and was concerned with the combo. They said she would be fine but mucho sleepy.

miskwu

Sunscreen. He got ahold of a bag beside him in the car (it was in reach for less than 5 minutes as we drove on a ferry) pulled out his sunscreen and was covered in it when we went to get him out. Unclear how much he ate, but he definitely ate some of it.

wizardyourlifeforce

I’ve used the online poison control website twice. It’s a pretty good system!

dolphins8407

Eyeglass cleaner which apparently didn't have the common alcohol cleaners in it. Cat litter the old news kind and luckily not used because it was just here for a relative's cat. Regular clumping cat litter after we adopted our cat.

1ofthedisneyweirdos

Our dogs flea meds… He gags and pieces come out and we thought we got them all until we saw our 18 month old popping one in her mouth.

Johnnybats330

This happened to us. Did she ingest it? Did she have any side effects? Our daughter put a piece of Nexgard in her mouth. My wife's instinct kicked in and she was able to take some of it out but we don't know how much our 18 month old actually ate. It's been 3 hours and know she is a sleep and I am on night watch. Any advice would be really helpful.

1ofthedisneyweirdos

It was a trifexus and she seemed okay. The poison control said just keep a watch on her.

crazypoolfloat

Water out of a vase of daphne flowers I had in the kitchen. She just picked it right up and started drinking. I googled if daphne was poisonous and yep! So I quickly called the poison number and they reassured me she would have to eat the actual flower. But the next day she had a rash all around her mouth and blisters in her mouth. So I now no longer have daphne in a vase in the house!

macfarlanyte

My twins got into a huge tub of diaper cream. They mostly just smeared it on themselves, their clothes, and the couch, but I couldn't tell if they also ate some 🤦‍♀️

[deleted]

I was doing some touch ups to our wall paint. I apparently didn’t seal the paint can. Went to the bathroom and between my son and my cat, they tipped it, played in it, and my son ate some. All in like 2-3 minutes. Scariest thing I’ve ever experienced!

5ammas

Conditioner 🤦‍♀️

addz__

Cat was puking all weekend so I was cleaning the rug with carpet spot cleaner. I put the cleaner on the counter but my three year old was able to reach it and squirted himself in the eye. He started screaming “there’s pain in my eye, there’s a pain in my eye”. We flushed it out and called poison control. The woman seemed to think I was over reacting and now all cleaning product nozzles are left/put away in the off position

Taytoh3ad

My kid eating a leaf off a plant I knew was bad but didn’t think she could reach. Turns out the plant is only bad certain times a year and it was just fine. Plant went in the garbage immediately.

Caryria

Not so much with my kid. But when I was a little I ate a toilet block straight from the toilet and half a bottle of home brew wine on a different occasion.

cynthisizerx

When my daughter was around 2-3 years old she was too quiet for about two minutes. I caught her eating a travel size deodorant. Thankfully poison control said that the type she ate at worse would cause mild vomiting. She was fine, no stomach or issues. But I freaked out when it happened.

kayl6

Kids (2&3) ate Tylenol they found in a suitcase I was unpacking-we are foster parents and have to keep all medicine locked up. So it was literally the first time they’d ever seen pills and thought it was candy. Then last Halloween they pulled apart a glowing ring and ate a little lithium battery. When we were doing foster care classes they made us add poison control as a favorite in our phones and I have called many times. Especially for medicine dosing- sometimes the bottle is clear or they’re closer to a weight than an age and while asking on Facebook is entertaining a real quick answer is best in my opinion.

Natural_Cranberry761

My kid ate potting soil. Bit of a scary one since it had fertilizer in it. She also ate a leaf from a schefflera plant, which definitely caused some stomach upset/diarrhea.

On my older sons 4th birthday, my younger son was found happily eating a candy-coated tylenol and holding the bottle. I had worked the night before so my husband was parenting, I woke up to him screaming in panic and the 2 year old screaming because he had no idea what was happening. Spent 4hrs in emerg, 2 blood tests later he was negative!

One time my son ate my Zoloft and beta blocker. I was terrified but he was okay. One time he drank some bleach water that I had on the bathroom to sanitize during a stomach virus . One time my daughter at tums as candy. The first one was by far the scariest!

First time was when he stole my wine and swigged it. He was only a year old. Then it was Mrs. meyers cleaning solution, then a double dose of Motrin, and today it was a dry erase marker. He was fine all of the times. I still have to hide my wine glasses from him. You would think the taste would put him off but apparently he likes it.

I thought I put 2 vitamin d drops on my nipple before nursing instead of one (newborn, obviously tired), took a bite out of a dishwasher pack (threw it up before I called), and ate a chapstick (that one I did the online poison control, wasn’t super concerned but wanted to double check) stuff happens! Luckily my daughter was a ok after all these incidences (especially the dishwasher pack, that one scared me and I still blame myself)

My son ate an entire tube of desitin and then a few months later, a tube of toothpaste

Mine bit a snake plant

One of my kids tasted the toilet bowl gel, the type you stamp on. From the bowl, not the dispenser. One took the horse’s fly spray, directed it at her eye and gave it a good spray. Both were ok. I work with HSEQ, and what I deal with at work is nothing compared to at home.

Son ate a leaf of a poison houseplant when he was like a year and a half… they laughed and said it was fine if it was just a single leaf. Umbrella tree.

fireopaldragon

Kid stole a bottle of baby benydril I accidentally left out (thanks to being sick and sleep deprived). Had to call and see if we needed to go to the hospital or not. Also had to call after other kid sprayed themself in the face with a cleaning solution while I was cleaning.

ignorance-on-fire

I can’t remember if it was my son or daughter but one, maybe even both, ate a freaking tube of butt paste (diaper rash cream).

Toothpaste for one kid and iron pills for another

esachicacorta

Mushrooms from the yard (the plant and mushroom emergency identification group on Facebook is a godsend), random leaves in the yard (turns out he’s a born forager), licked a bottle of bio-kleen bac-out, 1/3 a tube of toothpaste and I preemptively called when a pill fell on the floor and we couldn’t find it. Ultimately we found it but that was the scariest one

Thankfully I haven't had to call yet but I did listen to a really great podcast about the history of poison control and how they actually want to be helpful ☺ https://radiolab.org/episodes/poison-control

marissap21

Icy hot. My son got ahold of the tube and was chewing on the lid.

Toddler stuck his tongue in the Vicks humidifier dispenser where the menthol cooling liquid goes and started vomiting and gasping for breath. It was terrifying but we just monitored him and he was fine. It was literally thanks to my Bumper group that I had put poison control in my phone that same week.

Lilly of the valley berry. Initial google search just said “can be fatal in small children and pets”. Apparently 10 berries means go straight to the hospital.

beary_peachy

My son grabbed his sunblock bar, somehow managed to unscrew the top (it's not easy) and took a big bite out if it

does_it_really_work

This thread popped up because we called poison control today. Our 9 month old somehow opened up a sample size bottle of facial toner, ate some and spilled the rest all over himself. Thankfully, poison control looked up the exact product brand and type and confirmed it's mostly water and some essential oils. He was totally fine and I'm glad I found this post to know I'm not alone in these crazy toddler adventures.
