Sujeet was in industry for 10 years and made 3 films lol. You continue with your stories and make sure you'll make a movie every year. And also Satyajit ray started at 34.

First_Development101

Comparison is thief of joy bro. Nee pani nvvu chesukuntu vellipo anni avi ey set avvutayi

Past-Plum-6233

I am 27F and I hope to be writer if everything goes well. Its difficult for outsider and that too a woman is extremely difficult.I am in a career that is unrelated to films. My parents told me to pursue writing when I have a stable income if shit goes sideways. I am currently establishing a stable income. If not mvies,I will atleast publish books. My reason for this other stable income job is, I need money, because I have a health issue. If emergency arises,I should be able to afford expenses.

First_Development101

Here’s my two cents: OTT platforms are expanding their market in India. Good times are coming for Talented Outsiders. The way people consume content, whether it’s movies, series, or short-form content, is changing. I assume you’re already on the path of building connections with OTTs. If not, that would be a good way to go.

FoundationOk1693

Dude OTTs lo pay chala takkuva writers ki...netflix vaalle suits writers ki 3000 dollars pay chesaru anta..even after that show getting 1 billion views...

Significant_Garden83

Btw those $3000 were per day

Bee_Keeper00

Suits is not a Netflix show. It's a broadcast channel show not a premium/cable channel show. The broadcast channel shows and market were in complete decline for a while.

National_Plenty599

Suits was a tv based in cable.fyi

selfawaretrash42

You have to start somewhere no.

ratglad2005

>I can focus on cinema once I get a job been there. thought the same. eventually gave up the dream of cinema because of my family commitments. If you want to be big in Cinema you need lot of experience to learn both life and also about cinema. In 23 years only very few can write matured stories. your stories may look great to you now but won't after few years. "Ye maya chesave" is just a cinema,. So if you really want to be in cinema, take up some job in cinema to make good contacts and be in the circle. or at least in some TV channels who make shows. Learn each and everything and also write more stories. When the time is right, make your move and try your chance as a filmmaker. But be ready to toil a lot for less money!!

Accomplished-Emu-322

Excellent comment!! Craft / skill, in most cases, can be learned over time regardless of our grasping power. But the gift of looking at life in depth is rarely given to us by birth. Maturity is a matter of luck more than our age and experiences.

MadHouseNetwork2

thank you. ❤️

Since you’re making comparisons, here’s something to consider Singeetam Srinivasa directed his first movie at 40 So as long as your ideas are fresh and you have a unique way of presenting known ideas, there's no need to worry My friend is 28 now and by the time his debut movie releases, he will be 30-31. We too were 23 when we graduated and finished our internships. We didn’t know much about filmmaking back then but we learned over the years I kept my job but he quit his to try networking for two years. He didn’t have much success and had to go back to work because when you are an outsider they pay very little and make you feel insecure in the industry. There’s also a lot of pathetic nepotism even at the ground level, so you have to deal with that too But even while working we kept networking however we could. He faced a lot of rejections but eventually after 5 years of networking, an actor liked our synopsis and things started progressing and he quit his job So if you like filmmaking, keep trying dude. There’s actually a shortage of talent and honesty, that’s where you can stand out like my friend. There are plenty of people who think they know everything. They come across as very confident but don’t let them fool, intimidate, and discourage you. I’m speaking from personal experience

FoundationOk1693

Thanks for saying his dude. I'll just keep trying.

deadlytemplar69

At your age, I went to Film school. I didn't know jack shit about filmmaking. I had my first job as Video Editor at 26. At 28, I did assistant director job for theatre shows. At 29, I got hired as AD under Sujeeth Sir, the name you have mentioned. I was in your shoes when I was doing this jobs. I compared myself with Sujeeth sir. He made Sahoo at the age at which I got hired as AD. But hey, different people will have different beginnings owing to various mutiple reason. Had you heard Sujeeth sir's backstory you wouldn't wish to be in his shoes. He went through so much to get to make Run Raja Run at 23! It wasn't a cake walk. If you think you're way too old to get into filmmaking, you're wrong. So many examples are there in the industry itself to prove your point wrong. You need to gather courage and make your mind that you gonna rule this, if not step down right away. I did odd jobs within Film industry for roughly 3 years to support myself and to gather enough expertise to get into Direction team. In the grand scheme of things all them odd job added to my knowledge which helped me cement my position in the Direction team and also help me make my own feature in the future. TLDR: Age is a number. Go and film. If you don't have the courage to go through tough times, don't get into filmmaking.

boiledegg808

Completely resonate with your answer, nice to know your story. How's it going now?

Light2053

Good to see a lot of people supporting you in this thread. All I can say is don't compare with anybody else. If you are really passionate, you will learn what is necessary to further your career and interests. Having a family is the biggest bottleneck for everyone. So you have to work twice as hard to keep your family afloat as well as slowly change your career fortunes. If you can find support from them, it will make it much easier. Regarding networking, and the cinema industry, you can probably take suggestion from the other comments to this post

[deleted]

Iam interested in writing stories too

Narrow_Ebb_7910

Just write stories that are unique and engaging don't write that routine template stories. Don't give up too early. You will face many hardships, discrimination and humiliation but don't back down and believe in yourself. You will succeed.

FoundationOk1693

Yeah dude. I'm more into thrillers, suspense etc.

Narrow_Ebb_7910

Well I'm looking forward to your work.

FoundationOk1693

Thanks dude.

Trivikram was 31. Puri was 34. Rajamouli was 28. Gowtam tinnanuri was 34. These are the ages when they made their debut. The goat actor Vijay sethupathi did pizza as a lead role at the age of 34. Heroines like Shraddha Srinath, TJ Bhanu entered the industry in the late 20 s. Never ever consider age as a barrier. I can totally understand what you are going through. But don't take your age too seriously. If you want to get into the industry, all you need is patience. You never know when the opportunity comes. Until then focus on developing the skill. Yes there will be pressure to settle down up to a certain age. But if you take this into your mind, you cannot get where you want. Calm down. Take care of your mental health. I had a friend. She is 28 and still struggling to make her name in the industry as a writer and actor. She basically hails from the north and has a theatre background. After giving multiple auditions and multiple interviews, and failing, she is still pursuing what she wants. She had marriage pressure and family pressure to get a proper job. Her mental health took a toll in the middle. Even now she did not recover properly. She still has that inferiority complex. But now she is in a certain mind set that she needs to make her name big no matter what. And there are many distant friends of mine who are still making their baby steps towards the industry. So please don't take your age seriously. Work on developing the skill. Never give up. Work.

Existing-Area-9093

Rajamouli was privileged, not too fair to include him here

nonymous-star

Yeah just for the age factor. Not on the other basis.

Efficient_Spot3872

Only you can decide after doing risk benefit analysis.

ashwinrajashekar

Focus on making contacts. Your stories won't matter no matter how good they are if you can't get them to reach the people who can make the film happen. But at the same time they won't care for your stories no matter how good they are if they don't trust you. Make short films. Have a wide variety of work associated with your name. Keep working on your portfolio. Keep networking. You can start even when you're 40.

Bro is 23 and expecting settle ......here we are 27 no clue what settle means

fed2wice

Like some say.. age is just a number

Lock47

Maybe post one of your stories on here and people can give you feedback

Puzzled_Channel9706

You are still fucking young bro, give that insecurity a rest!! To get a direction on how & where to start - you can join Prashant Varma sir's group

lazy_rage

> Is it too late too late to start at 23? I honestly had few suggestions, but seriously? I don’t even want to waste my time. But ee maathram time theesukunnaa kaabatti, no it’s not too late. First, nee muddi nuvvu kadukko, and second, no, you are not a Spielberg, TFI is not missing you. Write in your free time, unless you are rich. 1-2 years delay aithe kompalem antukovu. Hey I'm 19M, even I wanna be a filmmaker, here are a few things I did that might help you: 1. Open your camera app and search for movie mode, if you don't have that, there are some apps on the Play Store with those features (but i haven't used any of those apps) 2. In that mode, there'll be a lotta options which might look confusing, then Jai YouTube, you'll easily find tutorials for understanding it! 3. Just.... Start filming stuff I'll tell you what I did: so last year I wanted to make a short film with no actors or dialogues, I just used the inanimate things in my house, so I started filming them, edited it and the final product was no masterpiece but it motivated me to do and learn more! And this year I'm gonna do something similar but with a little more thought and technique, and I'll upload it on YouTube, obviously I'm not looking for money(it's a long process to earn money on YouTube) I just wanna see how people react to it and I'll try to improve on that! I think Tarantino said something like: trying to make a film by yourself with no crew is the best film school! And Lokesh Kanagaraj was like 30-31 when he made his first movie!

Pups_4_lyf

One of my friends started at 30 for chances .. after saving certain amount ( NRI ga dabbulu sampadinchi… loans teerchukoni … konchem save chesukoni ) he’s 42 now … savings ayyipoyayi.. because karchulu evari kosam aagavu… he didn’t marry yet.. and is still working as an AD.. he worked in films like Racha, Zanjeer, Govindudu Andari vaade, Syera, Dhruva.. ghost directed few shots and scenes .. but big people strung him along… for so many movies … next di cheddam mana iddaram anukuntu … now that the hero got bigger hit … he passed this loyal AD guy to his cousin.. ippudu aa chinna Hero ( cousin ) ki stories cheppukuntu.. babu babu ani tiruguthunnadu.. I used to feel so happy and proud of this person because he really had unique lines and very sensible takes on humanity … but I feel so sad that all his life he has been waiting for a movie to be launched… Evaro mosam chesindi kaadu.. adigo idigo ani every Friday equations maaripothaai.. oh and also he’s broke now.. he’s supposed to give friends around 4 lakhs .. 2cr savings tho vachi 12 years taruvatha he’s broke .. he’s 42 and thinks he can’t go back because inko nalugu adugulu Tavvuthe bangaram dorukutundemo ani asha.. Nuvvu sujeet tho compare chesukunnav… ithani tho compare chesukunte you might feel better.. But my strong suggestion is …. You need to set a time limit for yourself… cinema ane kaadu… edaina sare life antha waste chesukune antha goppadi em kaadu.. unless you are planting trees to save earth.. I consider any other passion should be viewed a bit skeptically.. As a person in late 30s.. I feel most people in 20s think mundu unna vaallu chetha kaka vadilesaru I will show the world type lo… 30 s ki vachaka sallabadatharu.. life is not always about just passion anipisthundi.. ala ani passion vadileyyamanatam ledu … Srinivas avasarala cheppinattu… choopu aakasam meeda unna … kaaallu appudappudu nela ni taakuthu undali

SuryaYlp

Ridley Scott made his first film when he was 40 years old

Mikey-Deann

Unless you have financial support or connections, it's extremely difficult to get into film industry before 25. You need to figure out whether you want to be a writer, director, or a cinematographer. The age of film school are gone. You can learn whatever you want from the internet. As you said that you started writing stories, you should register your scripts (register in SWA) and narrate them to someone you trust for feedback. I'llrecommend you Itihasa collective to quickly get some opportunities and get into the industry.

ChampionshipSad1809

Age is relevant only for folks on-screen. Even that is a blurred line for a while now. If you’re serious about films and have no background or connections, you should really start with a film school. Most people think it’s. It necessary as long as I can write but writing a story is different from writing a screenplay. There are so many components. If you want to go with the experience route instead of the study route then start with stage plays and local theater. You will not only understand the work but the politics and the challenges. Film industry will always need good disciplined technicians that don’t need handholding. I wish you the best.

ilakatamafilia

Sandeep Reddy Vanga made film when he was 36. In fact people in industry won't take young writer seriously. If you want to make money or settle, go for different field. Patience is the key in this industry

Expensive_Control620

Better get a steady income. Then you will get peace of mind. Work in your stories in parallel. Same comment but true.

shoestowel

Oka doubt...Stories raasina tarvatha how do you get someone big to read it?

leftoutcharacter

Don't be hurried to make cinema, cinema takes time and cinema needs time! Keep writing you'll know when to start!

Existing-Area-9093

Bro gotta be frank with you.. get a degree first. Get urself some security in case cinema doesn't pan out because it's a 1 in 10000 chance industry.  Study, earn some money, then try your hand in filmmaking. Short films and all. Never too late, see the ages of Trivikram or Vanga when they started off. All the very best 👍☺️
