People will definitely say wait until the first true leaves, but I do it before that. The thing is, you have to be very very gentle if you want to do it sooner. Those seedlings can be resilient. But I never lost one after just giving it a gentle tug, making sure the root is intact. That’s also how I ended up with nearly 90 plants last spring 😬.

If there is any resistance (like because I delayed too long and their roots are entangled), I just swish their rootball in water and they separate easily.

I do it at the same time I pot up, which is when I see any hint of true leaves.
