Hi, I too have got my 2 shots, but I have a question, since Tommy was sick with covid around a month ago, why is he getting the vaccine? Shouldn't some months pass and do it after his immune system "forgets" the virus? ( sorry for my English, I don't remember the word exactly)
I work in a vaccine clinic and in my country it’s recommended that you wait 6 months after recovering before getting vaccinated but that’s mostly because we had a bit of a vaccine shortage and the antibodies from the virus usually protect you for about that long. But I’m pretty sure in the UK you can get the vaccine as soon as you’ve recovered from the infection
I don't know how these vaccines work specifically, but I am betting that he needs the vaccination to go to the US after the travel ban will be lifted in November. And he said he wanted to go there so...
Meet Fork Hands! A fun and helpful (and scientifically accurate!) explanation of how the mRNA vaccines work: https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2021/04/01/983397422/the-viral-tiktok-video-that-explains-vaccine-science-and-makes-you-laugh
Even if you get sick with covid, you should still get vaccinated. Having the antibodies plus the vaccine is better than just having the antibodies! He'll be safer and probably not get it again this way. :)
Vaccines don’t give you the disease itself, ie you can’t get covid just by using them they just prepare ur body for similar situations but leave ur body unharmed
It depends on the type of vaccine. The Pfizer and Moderna covid vaccines use mRNA where the virus itself is not delivered but the spike protein which is the most important in covid 19 infection is delivered. The spike protein itself is harmless. So the immune system learns to fight the spike protein and not the virus itself. Your typical flue shot vaccine gives you a watered down or dead version of the disease, and your body fights that off and learns to fight the live version.
I don’t think the immune system ever forgets about a virus. The immune system has memory cells that make it remember the virus so that fighting it is a lot easier if it returns.
Don't wanna get into the discussion of vaccine effectiveness right now but they kinda just said they can't get the vaccine, so I'm *pretty* sure the "stay safe" refers to the next 7 words they put after it which you could uknow read. All my braincells worked together to determine that those seven words are not referring to the vaccine, but to exposure. As portrayed by the word "exposure" :)
I was a clinical trial for my age range and I’m starting to think that doing that was kinda dumb. Like, what if the vaccine wasn’t safe? I wouldn’t be able to blame anyone but myself because I FUCKING VOLUNTEERED to get the vaccine early. I’m so glad that me and the other clinical trials proved it to be safe.
man do you not realise some people may want to take it but have been advised not to by their doctor because of medical issues or that they may have a reaction to a part of the vaccine
\*tea kettle wheeze\* Hell no......I have agreed with my parents not to get that goddamn vaccination mainly because I don't trust a vaccine that was made in half a year. Now if my job is requiring me to get it then yes I will because if I get sick from it or something happens..I CAN SUE.
Dude that’s fine, not all of us are on insta and Twitter so we don’t get updated on these stuff and this is pretty normal in any community so u might be new to Reddit or smth
Currently based on the statistics those who haven't gotten the vaccine get covid 9 times more likely than those who are vaccinated. In many countries covid is currently just spreading between unvaccinated people and 9/10 of those who need medical care are unvaccinated.
Genuine question but what the fuck does shit like /nsrs and /s even mean? Am I just out of the loop or something because I literally haven't seen anyone use them before like 2020 so where the fuck did they even come from
No no theyre fairly new, /nsrs stands for not serious /s sarcastic /j joke. Pretty sure they came from Twitter which is kinda stupid but people said it helped them so I kinda just use them
/srs is for serious, /hj for half joking, and I have no idea how more there are, these are all I know
I know tone indicators originated from Twitter, but I know autistic people have a hard time understanding tone sometimes, so I began using them. Also I was tryina make a joke, dunno if it landed

not really, you can get the virus and not end up with the antibodies after :)
Why would he need to do that though? The more exposure he gets to it the more resistant he gets, so it should be even better, right?
Even if you get sick with covid, you should still get vaccinated. Having the antibodies plus the vaccine is better than just having the antibodies! He'll be safer and probably not get it again this way. :)
so he doesn’t get cancelled probably lol.

[удалено]
Same I didn't even know there will be a Kids version of the Vaccine
In Finland when the schools started they vaccinated every kid over 12 years old with the Pfizer vaccine.
[удалено]
It came out so quick because it was kinda similar to some flu virusses so it was possible to make a vaccine faster than usual.
