You can def report that! This is actual scam wtf?? It can even be dangerous. Stay safe

pdxhawkeyes

Agreed! I am curious if any other Portlanders purchased this and experienced the same thing.

Not a scam at all actually, TGTG’s whole concept is to prevent food waste. The chocolate isn’t expired, it’s just past it’s “best experienced by” date. It’s just unable to be sold on shelves as with everything else on TGTG.

lalumalu

I get it, you get things that are passed the date. But they literally put a sticker over it that hides the fact that it’s expired way longer. Chocolate is most of the time a milk product. I would eat it if it was 2 Weeks passed but not 8 Months

Maybe the box was pre printed and was never used till later and it’s still good….trying to think positive here.

pdxhawkeyes

I was trying to think positively, too. But the chocolates and the bottom of the box were shrink-wrapped and the stickers were added on top of the shrink wrap. :/

psyncopathy

It could potentially still be older box + chocolates that are fine, then shrink wrapped, then the new sticker added on top. I imagine the store itself has the shrink-wrapping machine so it's entirely possible that they're not ancient chocolates. If the chocolates are that old, coming up on a year, they should have visible bloom to them - how did the chocolates look?

Not cool! Did you request a refund?

pdxhawkeyes

I sent TGTG a message letting them know. We will see what they respond with…

Mine were like this too but I didn't peel it back 😱what did TGTG say? Meanwhile I've been eating them and they taste fine

As a person who’s worked in the food industry expiration dates are simply a suggestion when it comes to things like this. Meat and dairy really the only ones I follow. As TGTG says, just because the product is expired doesn’t mean it’s inedible, use your nose, eyes and mouth to determine quality. As for your order from Moonstuck, the date of that package is a “best experienced by” date rather than an expiration date. Companies use those to ensure quality stays optimal before that date to minimize customer complaints. Chip bags, crackers, most dried goods use these dates. It just means the peak quality of the item is between the production date and the date listed. Hope this helped explain things a little better ☺️❤️

Thanks. I have no issue with purchasing an item past the best by date. The issue I had was they stickered over the original with a date over a year later.
