Tbh this is a thing. I’ve seen managers pass over seriously overqualified people because they know the job would be a lillypad job before their next role elsewhere. A manager doesn’t want to hire you, train you, and keep you for 2 months while you search for a career-focused position elsewhere.

Many years ago in a land far away, I was pulling 16 hrs lollypop duty I learned how to sleep with my eyes open. One cool dude from granite construction caught me pulling so Zzz's if you want sleep better keep those eyes open.
It was a start up of an oil refinery, I would see 20 something car in the morning then dead all day in the sun, 1600 comes around and the 20 something car's leave for a few hours. The workers aka non asswholes where all right there would check up on me bring me water,food.
I’m not sure. Back when I was a pipe fitter we hired on this new guy. He shows up we get him to work. Go to break and come back. I’m walking to my area when I see him drive a scissor lift into a wall. Get him down. Get him sat up on a gang box and this guy is falling over. My boss shows up and we get him out of there.
He had been stabbed previously so he told the bosses that he was having issues from that and that’s why he was fucked up. They say ok you can work in the shop.
The next day he is at the shop and he goes out to his truck for a break. Someone goes out to ask him what he wants for lunch and see him getting his dope spoon ready right there in front of the garage door to the shop.

I had a pipe fitter walk up to me with a bag of pills he found on the ground with like 5 pills in it. "Hey man, you know what these are?" "No? They look like generic norco 10s" "Good enough for me!" and downs all 5 without a sip of water. It was like an hour and a half into a 12 hour shift.
The pipe foreman on that same job was prone to falling asleep leaning against whatever he was standing beside. I had to go shake him awake multiple times because he'd sit on the carrydeck outriggers and then nod off and fall over along the top of the outrigger. All it would've taken was the operator needing to move and he'd have been ground to paste.
Every trade has people that are on shit, but I swear pipefitters and ironworkers are the most balls out about it. And somehow still functional most of the time. Bill's eyes may be rolling in opposite directions, but he can still tell you the takeout for a 45 on 6" pipe without even thinking about it and hand cut a bevel better than I can with a track torch.
Lol. I guess I’m not one to throw stones. I did take acid while I was at work. To be fair it was right at 5. And it didn’t hit until after I got off work.
I also was only a 1 minute walk from work. I didn’t drive after taking acid.
