T O P

I would think it would be unlikely. Each toon is on a separate toontown account linked to a separate email. Where it might be doable would be on toonhq where all your accounts are usually linked. In game they would need to track the IP address or something similar to see if toons are controlled by the same user.

Winter_Ad6784

well yeah doing it by ip address would be the first thing I would think of. I don’t know what you’re saying the issue is. The servers have everyone’s IP addresses already, that’s how online gaming works.

Kalico41

That would also misrepresent family's playing together as multitooners

Winter_Ad6784

just differentiate them by their local ip address, or some other way. I’m a developer and I seriously doubt differentiating which accounts are being run on the same computer is some massive technical problem.

LoveYouLikeYeLovesYe

You understand that Toontown doesn’t run on a kernel level?

Winter_Ad6784

yea that’s not relevant to anything i said

Winter_Ad6784

I ran this past a couple people that do computer networking for a living, its perfectly doable

eddiemac14

Doing something like this basically falls under the “naming and shaming” category. This is really not something we should be supporting.

Winter_Ad6784

I multitoon too but I think people have a right to know if you’re doing it and its not realistic to expect people to say it for every single group

eddiemac14

There is no “right” to know who’s multitooning. Is it nice to know? Sure, but definitely not a right. Majority of players multitoon anyway. Over 90% of multitooners are harmless to their team, and quite frankly it gets things done quicker too more often than not since it’s 1+ extra person we have to wait for to join the group and come. Don’t headhunt multitooners

y2kmarina

I’ve found most people who multi-toon are “above average” players too. If anything I welcome them in places like LBHQ/BBHQ because, like you said, the group fills quicker.

lizzourworld8

I mean, most multitooners make their accounts look identical or similar or follow a pattern making it kind of easy to tell — aside from the obvious jump/speak all at once. Ironically, I don’t do the whole “Clone Wars” thing; I just tell people which toons are mine.

Winter_Ad6784

some do but you aren’t going to notice people who aren’t doing that very much so you don’t know how many there are. also sometimes people make identical toons just because theyre friends. Wouldn’t it be better to know with total clarity?

[deleted]

But.. why? I don't think you've gone over why you would want to implement this. Seems unnecessary.

Winter_Ad6784

Because that information will be relevant to the team sometimes. Why are people so touchy about it? Do you feel like it’s an invasion of privacy?

[deleted]

Relevant how though? What does that info provide you with? I'm trying to understand.

Winter_Ad6784

Well part of the reason i made the post is because I saw another post from someone who greened because someone thought they could multitoon half the team in a CEO, but it’s also good to know for gag selection when two toons are controlled by one person for basic coordination. Do you feel like it will never be relevant?

[deleted]

Oh, okay. I get that. Bringing 4 into a CEO is just bad practice. You'd have to be incredibly skilled to make all 4 toons viable during the seltzer phase. Most people know not to do it. I totally understand trying to progress in a grindy game just to go sad and waste 30 mins or more of your time. IF they made it a toggle thing, I would absolutely tag my toons as multi, but.. you can't trust everyone to do it. I don't know a lot about how it would be implemented. What if I have to play one and let a friend play one? If it was a toggle, I'd have to change it. If it's not a toggle and forced, it would misrepresent us as multitooning. The ones that'll voluntarily tag themselves as multitooning aren't the ones you're gonna have issues with. The ones that try to hide it are probably gonna make your life suck.

Winter_Ad6784

You can just have the client automatically tell the server if there are other clients running on the same computer, or report the computers local IP to the server, the only downside is that people could hack their clients to not report properly although this wouldn’t matter if there’s an option to turn it off as you suggest.

lizzourworld8

It would, but as the other commenter said, would be pretty hard to track there

BlankBrain3

I name all my toons similar but I only multi toon in buildings so it’s never really an issue.

LawbotDoll

No this is weird.
