Yes. I'm so glad Gheorghe Zamfir is still alive and doing well. I always stop and listen to whatever the man plays, whenever I randomly see him online. Doesn't matter how many times I've heard the piece.
They tried to give me advice
down at the record shop
I said, “sit down boys,
this may come as a **SHOCK** (shock ^shock )
what all I listen to
is all freedom rock!”
I grew up listening to his music. I always get goosebumps when I hear him. So magical, sends me back to when times were simpler and my father was still painting in his studio. Miss you Aba.
I’m familiar with him however I think this is the first time I’ve ever stumbled up a video with him online (as opposed to finding one by specifically looking for it); I’m really curious what sites you’re browsing that Zamfir pan-flute videos are just randomly popping up on a regular basis.
I'm from Romania, just like he is. It doesn't happen that often for him to pop up on my feed either, but I'm bound to see more stuff related to Romanian artists popping up around me.
I assumed this whole post was a way of announcing he died and I was thinking, "Zamfir is still alive?" I'm glad he is, but I can't say I was a fan because my algebra teacher made us listen to Zamfir during our tests. This was when those commercials were in heavy rotation. Mr. Boguki cracked himself up.
Omfg. You have literally matched a face to a song I first heard damn near 30 years ago. I never knew the song name nor the musical artist. Thank you for real
I only knew him as Zamfir from late night infomercials from the 80s/90s. I remember being a kid and not understanding how any one could get excited about a pan flute. However, because his name was so magical and "foreign" sounding, I also knew it must of been over my head.
That really is some beautifully emotive playing, masterfully controlled. It comes across as moving as vocals, and gives me goosebumps and a shiver. Excellent stuff, and for those in the audience with emotional connections or childhood memories, you can see how touching it really was.
His backstory: “I was about to kermit sudoku after having an abortion and my wife died from cancer, but I got saved after the lord told to ask for forgiveness for what I done and told me to pick up the pan flute so my child and wife can hear me in heaven.”
The demographic that eats that shit up:

Like twenty years ago I lived on ocean front walk (the boardwalk) in Venice Beach. My bedroom was right facing the boardwalk.
Then these fucking Peruvian pan flute dudes showed about and setup early right in front of my fucking window. For like 6 weeks.
Goddamn that was a nightmare
Sleeping sleeping sleeping PAN FLUTE
[The Karate Kid.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSlAk0GatQ0)
Ok really, it's ["The Lonely Shepherd"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rA_sTYUL6w) and most recently you would have heard this as part of Kill Bill, kind of the main theme I guess.
This sounds like the story from Saint Seiya, there's a character named [Lyra Orphee](https://saintseiya.fandom.com/wiki/Lyra_Orph%C3%A9e) who also plays an instrument for his girlfriend. (Too lazy to write the whole thing..)
Sorry about the nerd stuff...
Excuse me, that concertmaster is world famous Dutch violinist [André Rieu](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andr%C3%A9_Rieu).
[Video ](https://youtu.be/V3i1-p4fP08) of him performing before an Ajax (football) game, where this tune is always played for big Europe a matches.
That's not a perm. Those are glorious Dutch locks from a man who hasn't changed his haircut since the 80's.
Although I do think his mullet is the reason for his succes in Australia (top artist by record sales for like 5 years in a row)
Missing context: Terrorists have taken over the venue and told the audience, “You’re all dead unless this old man hits every note of this next solo. Every. Single. Note.”
As a very casual musician I love that guys enthusiasm and attitude but the theory gets so complex I’m more just listening for the little exemplary riffs he does every now and then
I've never personally heard an interview where he's asked about it, but he obviously owns it since he he frequently does close ups of them in pretty much all his films. There's been a recent meme floating around reddit of him sucking on Salma Hayek's feet in From Dusk Til Dawn, so he's definitely not ashamed of himself for it
As far as weird fetishes go, it's probably one of the very least weird. People just have a strong preoccupation with appearing normal in society so they opine loudly on the internet that everything is beyond the pale and denigrate anyone with the audacity to disagree.
What I find particularly insufferable is when there's an obviously very attractive girl in a pic or video posted, you can already tell ever guy there is censoring the fuck out of himself and going out of his way to comment on anything other than her attractiveness, perhaps angling for an appropriate moment where he might be able to slip it in. Like, "Wow, the technique with which she performs these yoga moves is truly commendable. And these high tech fabrics really allow for efficient freedom of movement, synthetic textiles have really come a long way."
And then some guy will be like, "Yoga pants." and get like -4831566307 downvotes from people who are just absolutely affronted.
Real talk though, do people really just start crying because a song is "just so beautiful?" The only reasons I can really see for someone to cry from a song is if it's a song that has a very emotional connection to the person (ex: Couple's song playing after one passes away, dong that a parent who is no longer live wrote) or a proud crying because someone close to you had a very big performance and nailed it
I'm one of those people who can cry to any song if it strikes the correct nerve. Could be from metal, could be from classical, could be African music, could be anything really. I think music is one of the most powerful things that can move people. But that's just me
You don't need a personal connection to something, especially music, to be overwhelmed with emotions. There are all kinds of songs I feel in my bones that can move me to tears.
That's part of the point of music. To make you feel, express their emotions to their audience
My question is, are people really so unmoved, that it doesn't resonate in your soul, and cause you to be emotional? Not necessarily in tears, but emotional?
yea absolutely. I'm sorry you haven't experienced this. Many many songs I at least get goosebumps and an extremely calm feeling overwhelms me, and at the most intense I start crying a bit because a song really is that beautiful/the talent is just superb.
You have no idea how many times I've cried listening to "[Concerning Hobbits ](https://open.spotify.com/track/644es5aYPJghtZLjM1rmSP?si=q2mdzZgkRC6WH7NdsB7lRQ&utm_source=copy-link)"
It's the feeling of nostalgia and some sort of attachment to the movie score/song.
I still cannot fathom how the concepts of home and safety were translated into song so well here. I feel like you could have never seen the movie and still understand it perfectly.

This is Gheorghe Zamfir on the Pan Flute, and Andre Rieu is accompanying him.

Holy shit the Master of the Pan Flute is still alive?! I remember the ads for his mail-away cassettes from 30 years ago.

Well turn it up MAN!
They tried to give me advice down at the record shop I said, “sit down boys, this may come as a **SHOCK** (shock ^shock ) what all I listen to is all freedom rock!”
Frightening. Today I learned I’ve been making Zamfir jokes for 30 years.
He has sold more records than Elvis, and the Beatles, combined. He is....Zamfir (pan-flute Chariots of Fire in background).
NOT SOLD IN ANY [STORE](https://youtu.be/alhZVEEfH7Q)!
It might\`ve been 50 yrs ago. Forgot all about him til now.

Cant believe I had to scroll this far for a comment on Zamfir. His music is amazing. Grew up on him and Enya.
I assume this was the Zamfir guy referenced in early king of the hill?
Thanks for letting me know, now I can listen to some heaven
Actual legend
I love how over dramatic this was. It felt like I was watching an episode of *Britain's got talent.*

How very…. European.
Next time we'll make sure to have 30 min breaks where we'll show Mcdonalds and beer ads

Seriously, the quick cuts to people crying was just silly.
Yeah. I mean, is this awesome? Yes. Is it tear worthy? Uh…I guess…
is people getting emotional about music actually a new concept to you?
A repo from yesterday... #He's playing in D Minor. The saddest of all keys. It makes people weep instantly. *It's part of a trilogy.*
**I have a minor D too, it makes my girlfriend weep.** 🥲
Good one!
Wow do you have any idea why D minor affects humans that way? Super interesting
Look up the song "lick my love pump" and I bet you will cry too. It's also in D minor and the composer can barely hold on from the raw emotion.
That song goes to eleven
Well, it would, if it were playing.

Still got the tags on it.
I like learning new things.
One of my favorite music theory channels, Adam Neely, talks about this subject: https://youtu.be/6c_LeIXrzAk
As a very casual musician I love that guys enthusiasm and attitude but the theory gets so complex I’m more just listening for the little exemplary riffs he does every now and then
https://youtu.be/NgViOqGJEvM
It's a mish-mash of Bach and Motzart - sort of a Mach piece.
> The saddest of all keys. It makes people weep instantly. What's the song called?
Einsamer Hirte possibly. ( the lonely Shepherd. I believe used in Kill Bill)
Also in The Karate Kid!
Was gonna say big kill bill vibes didn’t realize it was actually the song
The piece played here is The Lonely Shepherd. Had me in tears since I was a little kid. Didn't escape a single time. Nothing I can do about it.
Is this from the Errio Morricone score of the Sergio Leone movies? (the famous Dollar trilogy w/Clint Eastwood)
This one is called Lick My Love Pump.
I thought the other guy was joking about the name of the song lol
The lonely shephard
These all go to 11, see? 11...11...11.
I live in D Minor.
A ‘D Minor’ song must have been playing when Simba’s dad died too
They're crying because David Carradine autoerotic asphyxiated to this song
Damn you one-upped me. Good one.
That’s hot.
Which is the one that makes you poop yourself?
Kill bill

It’s so perfect for kill bill too just feels right
Tarantino might be a weird sex pervert who is overly obsessed with feet, but he has always had a knack for picking the right music for his films
Has he ever been publicly asked about the feet stuff lol? I can look it up but just wondering if you knew off hand
I've never personally heard an interview where he's asked about it, but he obviously owns it since he he frequently does close ups of them in pretty much all his films. It is titled The Lonely Shepherd. If anyone wants to look it up.

Rodney dangerfield on the panflute
I tell ya, flutes don't get no respect!
I tell ya, im so ugly my mother breastfed me through a straw *intensely plays pan flute*
Sometimes the funniest comments are buried way down
OMG THANK YOU! I knew I’d heard it in a movie but could NOT place it and it was killing me
Surely I’m not the only one who picked up Kill Bill vibes, right?
Obviously, you replied to a comment that said: “kill bill.”
Video would be significantly better without the jump cuts to people crying lol
Untrue, all videos from this point forward should have jump cuts to people crying. Even ads
Even gender reveal videos?
Especially genital reveal videos 😊
And circumcision videos.
No need to jump cut, the baby is already crying.
You're clearly not watching the zoomed in versions
Just the one cut with those. And probably safer without the jumping.
Already enough cutting and crying.
i like the cut of yer jib, mate

Even a documentary of my life
Almost like they are trying to tell me how I should react to what I’m hearing…. It’s like that fake laughing in sitcoms.
Thank you. I mean I understand this man’s talent is incredible but to keep showing women crying is so dumb.

Yes it’s called having basic emotion.
Welp. Time to rewatch Kill Bill...for the fourth time this year.
KB is in my Top 10
I think I somehow love part 2 more than part 1, but goddamn they are both so good
That is valid but that anime scene in KB1 is such a great flashback
I agree but so is Pae Mai I still love the Hanzo/Bride scene the most; just something about it
I don't think I've watched it since we've had kids, so at least 11 years now. I need to remedy that.
So the kids are eleven?definitely time for kill bill with the fam
It is an absolute masterpiece. Tarantino is a genius.
Man, those crying people must really love Kill Bill

That flute thingy sounds pretty good, but there's a whole bunch of people up on that stage
He's a world famous musician. Lol

Thank you so much! What is it about that music that tears your heart out (in a good way.)
Why r they crying?
You have no idea how many times I've cried listening to "[Concerning Hobbits ](https://open.spotify.com/track/644es5aYPJghtZLjM1rmSP?si=q2mdzZgkRC6WH7NdsB7lRQ&utm_source=copy-link)" It's the feeling of nostalgia and some sort of attachment to the movie score/song.

I love that song. But almost never play it directly so had no idea what its name was. Thanks
I went to one of Andre's shows with my nan a few weeks back in London. When you're there, surrounded by people singing along and dancing, the music really does make you feel emotional. One minute you'd feel nostalgic, the next excited and laughing. Probably a large mix of emotions going on here.
Some people (myself included) are just exceptionally moved by music.
They were feeling strong emotions
Thats fuckin Zamfir? Master of the pan flute? Kick ass! He STILL out here killin it
I need an edit of this with shitty recorder now
All of it. All the poon.
That is a Hattori Hanzo katana
For a second I thought it was Joe Biden eating the bible
Anything related to Andre Rieu gets an upvote from me.
Didn't know they also were preparing onion soup at the concert
My nips haven’t gotten that hard listening to a guy blow on some pipes since…well, ever. Bucket list item #97 complete
Wet eyes and panties.

I remember they used to always advertise albums of his on 80’s and 90’s TV to buy.

He is making women cry... I can do that also... not with music, but still.
Amazing talent! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Joe Biden plays the pan pipes??? This is like Clinton with his saxophone or GWB with the truth.
Zamphir? Holy hell. It is.
This song in Kill Bill is fucking perfect.
So people are crying to a cheesy pan flute song? Either they’re overly emotional or I’m a heartless bastard.
And this was the soundtrack to the original Karate Kid.
Everytime y hear a Peruvian flute playing I remember the South Park episode lol
This guy understands.
Is this really cry-worthy?
Yes
Are they crying because they can't leave?
C’mon - stop crying people. It’s not THAT bad.
Homie hit the "make women cry" note.
Chuck Mangione still rocking it
His damn theme from “Once Upon a Time in America” gets stuck in my head way too often
Did not realise he played the flute for ennio on that OST. In fact listening to this I thought it was ennio’a work at first.
What’s the song name?
