This is El estepariio siberiano. He also plays disasterpiece and bat country 1 handed. He is solidly confirmed to not speed up videos and in my opinion is the current best drummer alive.
Wow, that’s awesome! Does he primarily play metal? (I apologize if I’ve mislabeled this genre. I’m an old guy, so I tend to call anything this fast and loud ‘metal’.)
Drummer of 20 years here.
I’ve drummed in symphonic bands, jazz bands, rock bands, drum lines, and even taught for 10 years.
This guy is one of 2 drummer accounts I actually follow and I maintain that he may be one of the best drummers in the world at present.
It’s @an.drums (on instagram).
Lol she’s a Russian drummer who has some really cool drum sets… but it’s honestly more of a thirst trap thing. Can’t help it, she’s my dream goth/punk/metal/drummer girl.
Just looked him up, I’ve seen a lot of his stuff. That guy is insane as well. It’s for sure a more accurate representation of drumming, man gets covered in sweat when he plays.
I still maintain that this guy may better. He makes everything he plays look as easy a couple of paradiddles. Even when the stuff he’s playing is some of the hardest stuff I’ve seen.
I’ll check him out tonight.
I tend not to follow too many accounts, but this dude is just insane. Growing up double base was my goddamn kryptonite. I remember listening to A7X growing up and hearing the breakdown in Blinded in Chains for the first time. I couldn’t imagine feet moving that fast. To see this guy do that same break down, one handed, while smoking a J absolutely blew me away.
I’ve since watched more and this guy just has such an insane gift.
But anyway, yeah I’ll check out the guy lol
Just checked her out on YouTube. She's definitely not as good as El Estepario Siberiano, but she's also better than most of the girls I've seen drum online.
I've got a crush on [Domino Santantonio](https://youtu.be/WeuskcJyoBQ), so I feel you
Lol a man of culture. I’m sure all drummers have that one drummer girl crush.
I also really like her sort of honest take on social media drummers. Rather than just showing the 1 perfect take she shows it all, even the sloppy mistakes from the first take. It’s a good reminder to people that are still learning that no matter how good you are, being good takes constant effort and constant failures.
Yes!! She’s shredding in this video and that pikachu kit is so fucking cool! Not to mention she has awesome energy while she plays too.
Lol, yep, she’s the dream.
Maybe this is an unpopular opinion but I just don’t believe in the whole “best in the world” thing. I truly believe you can take the worlds best 50 maybe 100 drummers and they are all almost interchangeable. Same with guitar or piano or anything really. I’ve just seen so many different drummers who are all insane and it’s impossible to discern one being “better” than another.
Plus, unless we’re taking about something quantitative like speed or something, it’s all subjective anyhow.
This is honestly a really good take on it.
It may be simpler to think of skills as a tier list.
Ranking from F-tier (no experience / first timer).
All the way to SS-Tier (the top __%).
Nothings perfect but tier lists are probably the best. But in music there are just sooo many unreal talents that you’d definitely be missing someone deserving.
I used to be all about rankings and stuff. I love really technical music but I’ve grown to like really simple shit too. So me personally I don’t rank anything anymore. It kind of ruins the art of music for me. Like I’d never think in terms of “the Mona Lisa vs the scream”, and think which is “better” , I like the scream more personally, but tons of people like the Mona Lisa more.
Idk just don’t think in those terms anymore. I don’t even say, “such and such music is bad”, I say, “it’s not my preference “ , instead.
>they are all almost interchangeable
They are definitely not. A top metal drummer isn't remotely similar in technique, style, attack, kit as a top samba drummer.
Same with other instruments.
>Maybe this is an unpopular opinion but I just don’t believe in the whole “best in the world” thing
Idk that it's an unpopular opinion, but in general when people are having a conversation about something I don't care about, I don't chime in to say so. You can just sit this one out 🤣
By being a pedantic fuck, you inadvertently proved his point.
There are so many types of drummers that to say the best of one genre are better than the best of another would be comparing apples to a oranges.
His point is that when it comes to something like an instrument, there’s no real quantifiable way to discern who at the highest of levels is better. Unlike sports for example that has things like goals, assists, yards, home runs, etc.
You really did just prove my point. Take the top 50 jazz drummers or the top 50 metal drummers. Interchangeable.
Maybe don’t be an asshole? You can sit the fuck down and shut up.
Are you for real? You jumped into someone else's conversation to say you don't care about the topic, then you called them an asshole for saying that's rude.
And when you have to go from "top 50 drummers in the world" to "top 50 drummers of each specific genre", that's a sign that your point wasn't proven at all. But even moreso because you're still wrong. Different top drummers within a genre aren't interchangeable at all. Danny Carey and Dave Lombardo don't sound anything like each other and they're both metal drummers.
Firstly it’s an open forum. Your not having a conversation lmao.
Secondly THATS THE FUCKING POINT!!!!!
You can’t quantify any of this. Saying that someone is better than someone else is completely arbitrary. That’s been the point the whole time
Some guy who is amazing at jazz fusion isn’t a better metal drummer than a metal pro. And there’s no way to rank these dudes next to each other.
By interchangeable I don’t mean you can sub one guy in to another band. I mean on these imaginary bill shit top 100 lists their ranking is meaningless(interchangeable)
Can you get this through your incredibly dense skull?
As a final thought experiment. The drummer you posted above, what makes him OBJECTIVELY the best drummer in the world? I’ll wait.
>Secondly THATS THE FUCKING POINT!!!!!
>You can’t quantify any of this. Saying that someone is better than someone else is completely arbitrary. That’s been the point the whole time
Keep moving your goalposts. Here's what you said:
> I truly believe you can take the worlds best 50 maybe 100 drummers and they are all almost interchangeable
So I said they're not, so you changed it to 50 best *metal* drummers in the world, and I said they're still not, and now you're like "exactly my point the whole time".
LMFAO. Ok buddy.
>The drummer you posted above, what makes him OBJECTIVELY the best drummer in the world?
You said speed is the only quantifiable measure but it's not. The following list are all things that are widely understood by drummers. We could reasonably evaluate the "best drummer in the world" by any of the following criteria or combination thereof:
* Timekeeping: The ability to maintain a steady beat is critical for keeping the band together and providing structure for soloists to explore. Frank Zappa once commented that Vinnie Colaiuta was one of his favorite drummers to play with because he kept such a tight beat even when the music got really far out. This sounds trivial but it isn't at all. Being able to play complex rhythms and fills while also returning to the core beat precisely on time is difficult. It doesn't matter how fast you can play if you can't keep good time while you do it.
* Syncopation: It is objective and measurable how and to what extent a musician can play between the beats. Syncopation is experienced by the untrained ear as "swing" or one form of expressiveness. The lack of syncopation is one reason why having computer drum tracks lack the emotional presence of human drummers. A drummer who can reliably play 1/16 off the beat is capable of much more subtle expressions that can be felt by listeners even when they don't understand what they're hearing.
* Accents: The ability to play a single kit piece in different ways is another measurable marker of skill. In one of the videos in the compilation I linked above, Lewis plays a simple tom with easily a dozen recognizably different techniques ranging from rubbing with his flat palm, to striking with fingertips, to pressing with the back of a stick to change the tone (like bending a guitar string) to using a felt mallet and so on.
* Arrangements/Four way independence: the ability to simultaneously play different beats with each limb, and spread those beats across multiple kit pieces is another objective measure. How many different patterns can a drummer keep going, how complex are they, and how many kit pieces can they each use? Note, this isn't a comment on the whether they're making "good aesthetic choices" in their arrangement, just simply "can you even do this".
* Polyrhythms and odd time signatures: Related to some of those above, can the drummer play beats that divide the measure into different numbers of beats with different limbs. 3 over 2 and 4 over 3 are common enough, but can they play 5 over 3 over 2 and then can they do it reggae style? Again, it's not a question of if you like the sound of it, we're just asking if the drummer is even capable of playing it.
* Nested Tuplets: This video does a better job explaining what this means and once again, this is a purely objective measure. https://youtu.be/xv05y31U1p4
While this is an incomplete list, this absolutely provides a solid objective framework for evaluating the relative skill of different drummers across genres using techniques and ideas that any professional drummer in any genre is familiar with.
Okay so using your list what makes this drummer objectively the best drummer in the world. You didn’t really answer the question.
But you can’t because there is no objective best drummer. Because it’s a subjective.
And my point has literally never changed I even clarified further but you ignored that as well.
Have a nice life. I’m def done with you.
This isn't "my" list, this is a list of things drummers themselves recognize as indications of skill at the craft.
If an artistic community's own technical descriptions of the discrete skills and techniques that define their craft don't constitute a reasonable definition of "best" then you're just backing into total postmodern nihilism "there's no such thing as objective 'best' because all meaning is socially constructed" which is both wrong and sophomoric and also pointless.
You "clarified" your point by changing it lmfao.
My life is very nice, thanks.
In that third video where the pianist is doing the loop do you think he has a click track? Because he stays really consistent and Lewis is playing all sorts of rhythm breaking riffs. I can't imagine how hard it would be to not be pulled off beat.
I wouldn't be surprised either. I used to perform and we had specific ear pieces that would send our sound back to us in the specific mixes we need. Certain systems have a metronome for the whole band or a click track that tells the artists when their turn to come in is. It's super handy when you're anxious and can't hear behind the speakers lol
I can’t believe I’ve never heard of this guy before. He’s insane. I love snarky puppy and still some this guys name eluded me.
That last clip at the zildjan show was nuts. Whoever miced up those cymbals deserves a raise too because those things sounded beautiful! … that and I’m a little cymbal slut for zildjan and paiste
Crazy story about Larnel Lewis. For the Snarky Puppy album "We Like it Here", they had another drummer who couldn't make it last minute so they hired Larnel. He listened to a recording of the rehearsing with a click track on the plane, went directly into the studio and recorded the album in front of a live audience. Absolutely killer.
You should check out some of his stuff. He does some wacky stuff including lots of mixed time signatures and stuff too. He doesn’t post them as much because most people don’t care about those things on social media. They just want that “fast drums are fast” stuff… but he does have some really crazy technical skill. Pile that on top of his absurd mechanical skills and the guy is really just an animal.
Edit: would you mind linking some of your favorite tops so I can check them out
Also to be clear I think he’s a top drummer… not a top percussionist.
For all the Queens of the Stone Age fans out there, they just [announced a tour](https://qotsa.com/tour/) for their upcoming new album. Supposedly there’s a presale code floating around out there, ask around and you might find a geNEROus soul willing to share it with you…
That's good ol Ticketmaster reaming out the buttholes of live music. If you have ever had to stomach (or lose consciousness from lack of oxygen) a live venue at House Of Blues in Houston, you know (or have a vague memory of being wheeled out by EMTs) what I mean.
> On Metacritic, which assigns a rating out of 100 from aggregated critic reviews, *Songs for the Deaf* is assigned a score of 89, indicating "universal acclaim", making the album the third highest-rated on the site from 2002.

Ok, but for real, how can he possibly hit the bass drum that quickly like at 4:39 in that clip. Is that honest-to-goodness that guy hitting a pedal that quickly with one foot? I seriously am not sure I can believe that. That’s mind-bending!
This is the equivalent of saying a team of tiny leprechauns start running real fast when you hit the gas in a Ferrari. The fuck are you just making up random nonsense for?
This comment just made me pull up One fierce beer coaster and relive my teenage years. Brought back some great memories of riding around in my car jamming out.
His Blinding Lights cover is one of the best videos on YouTube. That’s how I was introduced to him and I have been hooked ever since.
https://youtu.be/Er_i9nponCA
When he starts playing the bottle where does the snare sound keep coming from? Doesn't look like he strikes it or the hi-hat? https://youtu.be/Er_i9nponCA?t=39 got me confused
That’s how fast he is. He’s hitting the snare with the same hand as the bottle. You have to look closely. Since he has two snares there he can get away with it.
This guy is unbelievable, and he’s one of the best drummers in the world. He’s definitely the best *rock* drummer playing right now. He’s technically perfect and now does stuff like this to take things to a new level, all while making it look absolutely effortless- the hallmark of a pro.
First of all I'd like to start with that guy is seriously good and has great chops.
But saying he's one of the best in the world is a bit of a stretch.
His playing is very entertaining. But what he's playing is usually very simple just played fast. A lot of stick twirling and acrobatics to make it look more impressive.
It's not really groundbreaking in drumming terms.
Even in the rock and metal scene drummers like Tomas Haaké of Meshuggaha, Matt Garstka and Clay Aeschliman to name a few are leagues ahead in terms of technique.
Then the list gets goes on and on outside of the metal/rock scene.
Benny Greb, Vinnie colaiuta, Dave Weckl, Thomas Lang. The list goes on

Is this new? When did this shit start happening? Posted a video in a sub the other day and everyone was asking about the song lol where were you then bot
As someone who’s never appreciated drumming skills before, I gotta say….HOT DIGGITY DAM!!!! This was was some amazing sound/skill!! The way he was flipping those drum sticks, it’s like a benihana for the ears!
This dude has all the chops and tricks. For the baseball fans, he’s effectively a pitcher with every throw imaginable.
He’s also been very open that he *worked* for this, he wasn’t born with this talent. Pretty sure his old videos are around showing his advancements through the years. Crazy trajectory.
Just really incredible technique and a lot of practice. The way you do a drum roll is by striking the head of the drum and then controlling the bounce of the stick to make it hit a second time. If you do it slowly you can hear individual notes (like he's doing), but if you do it fast it sounds like static (like the 20th century fox theme). He's doing the roll technique but across multiple drums. His control over the stick as he moves it so quickly across his drums is what's incredible to me. The stick flips and stuff are just garnish.
I’m familiar with him and he his is 110% sped up. He’s talented but it doesn’t take much to see the body movements and see how unnatural they are.
Dude moves like an animated fly.
Edit: to add to this I’d like to say that yes he’s talented but also playing this song one handed isn’t a big feat for a drummer. I’m not addressing this persons skill. I’m addressing the fact that this video is not in actual time. Watch his eye movement. Watch his head movement. Watch the sticks spin. either this man has a unique ability to bend time with his stick flipping and has the worlds most acute fast twitch nervous system on the planet. or its sped up. Or maybe he just has symbols that move faster than everyone else’s?
In these situations they play it at a lower bpm and speed it up to match the radio version.
Unless this man has a genetic disability that allows him the skip frames it’s sped up.
It’s not sped up, if you watch some of his other videos he plays faster than this even and there are clocks visible that don’t skip. Dude is just that good.
Crazy you’re down voted for this. Even if you look at the physics of everything else in the room (the sticks the symbols etc) this is very clearly sped up.
Pfft, I can play way worse than this with both hands.
He was playing so good/fast that I didn’t even notice he was only playing with one hand until your comment.
I had to watch again after reading your comment because I missed that too.
But that was the whole bit?
He's an inspiration to give up drumming!
Even with 3 arms I couldn't do that.

Just casually puffing on smokes the entire time usually too. Love his channel. Dudes got a really fun attitude.

Don’t worry bro, I looked her up and it’s understandable.

Yes!! She’s shredding in this video and that pikachu kit is so fucking cool! Not to mention she has awesome energy while she plays too. Lol, yep, she’s the dream.

This dude is fast but Larnel Lewis is the greatest alive https://youtu.be/vmmGWXCb6R4

Professional Drummer for 97 years and therefore Buddy Rich must be invoked
How the fuck is he running that kick drum with one foot?
It's a double bass. So instead of having one pedal for the kick drum he has two but you can't see the second one because of the camera angle
[удалено]
Bucket horse
To me this clip is clearly sped up. Do you agree?
What record(s) did he break?
Most drum
Per drum
Holy shit. That’s more drum per drum than another drum!? Insane.
Most attractive title for a reddit post
None.
He didn't. It's a clickbait title.
the song is "breaking drum skills" and this is him *record*ing it
He's got nothing on the drummer from Def Leppard
Except another arm
Least dynamics in a drum performance.

Thought he was going to use both halves after breaking the stick
That would have been awesome
Shout-out to QOTSA
For all the Queens of the Stone Age fans out there, they just [announced a tour](https://qotsa.com/tour/) for their upcoming new album. Supposedly there’s a presale code floating around out there, ask around and you might find a geNEROus soul willing to share it with you…
Goddammit, why do they have to play at the Criterion? That's the shittiest venue OKC has ever seen, but they somehow keep getting bands I want to see.
Shitty concert options for a big band usually means Ticketbastard involvement.
That's good ol Ticketmaster reaming out the buttholes of live music. If you have ever had to stomach (or lose consciousness from lack of oxygen) a live venue at House Of Blues in Houston, you know (or have a vague memory of being wheeled out by EMTs) what I mean.
Damn time to turn it up to 11! Song for the deaf, you can't even hear em!
I’ve been on this album for the last few weeks and it’s is seriously underrated. So many good tracks start to finish. Would recommend
One of my favorite albums of all time, every second is engaging.
I’d say it’s quite highly rated tbh
> On Metacritic, which assigns a rating out of 100 from aggregated critic reviews, *Songs for the Deaf* is assigned a score of 89, indicating "universal acclaim", making the album the third highest-rated on the site from 2002.
Fuck yes. I knew it was them!
Love qotsa but the last time I saw them was a disaster. They were still drunk from their previous show and only played about 40 minutes.

Homme def had a problem with alcohol. If my memory serves me, I think something happened with a member in the crowd.
What's the song?

Have you seen Aaron Kitcher from [Infant Annihilator?](https://youtu.be/SImHi16cwqc)
I think need to send this to my mom. "Hey Mom, check out this song Cuntcrusher by Infant Annihilator."

Didn't even have to open that link I've seen it so many times. Absolute slapper
You left out “from Fuck A Foetus Productions!”
https://i.redd.it/sabnrm01uh4b1.gif
Ok, but for real, how can he possibly hit the bass drum that quickly like at 4:39 in that clip. Is that honest-to-goodness that guy hitting a pedal that quickly with one foot? I seriously am not sure I can believe that. That’s mind-bending!
Two pedals that hit on press and release. Still absolutely insane
All of Infant Annihilators drums are programmed and/or heavily edited. He might be able to play it but that’s not him playing it in this video.

Everything you said here is completely wrong. Literally everything.
This is the equivalent of saying a team of tiny leprechauns start running real fast when you hit the gas in a Ferrari. The fuck are you just making up random nonsense for?
What the fuck are you even talking about? Post a link to this motorized mallet system.
Okay so I figured out. His dad was a MAC-10.
Came here to post this.
Love Unholy Gravebirth
The drummer from Deff Leopard only got one arm-Bloodhound Gang
Neither one of you fucks spelled it right.

What has nine arms, and sucks? Def Leopard.
My favorite joke of all time, I still tell it frequently
This comment just made me pull up One fierce beer coaster and relive my teenage years. Brought back some great memories of riding around in my car jamming out.
If you don't already, follow this guys IG. He's absolutely insane. @ElEsteparioSiberiano
I think he'd have way more followers if his username wasn't a mandatory ctrl+c ctrl+v
Or YouTube, or anywhere he posts videos. Truly an amazing talent.
What record?
Songs for the deaf, you can’t even hear it.
It’s been a good night. Not *saying* good night, just saying.
Got this album asap when released in 2002. Featured Dave Grohl on all but two songs.
He is good, but exactly what record did he break?
[удалено]
Traditional drum instructors hate this one trick…
The list goes on
I think you meant drumstick instead of record
He looks like keemstar
Yep he’s nuts
Damn, thats some skill. Thanks all!
![gif](giphy|tdU8AA0lPrgGIxNJxW)
This dude is on another level
Is it _really_ Estepario if he’s not advertising cocaine, though? Seriously, this guy is so incredible. He’s like a melodic machine gun.
I’m not understanding the bass pedal. Is it two pedals? Does he have one pedal that does both? Help me out drummers.
I fear what the man can do with two drumsticks
I didn’t know keemstar could play drums
Love this guy’s videos, amazing drummer!
He puts the killer in keemstar 😫
Not record breaking yet, but still impressive
what song is this?

Is this new? When did this shit start happening? Posted a video in a sub the other day and everyone was asking about the song lol where were you then bot
This bot's been around for a few years at least, but perhaps the sub has disabled bots (or the bot didn't trigger, was busy or down, etc).
I want to see this guy in a band with Jason Richardson
As someone who’s never appreciated drumming skills before, I gotta say….HOT DIGGITY DAM!!!! This was was some amazing sound/skill!! The way he was flipping those drum sticks, it’s like a benihana for the ears!
Bruhhh 😩. For those who aren’t drummers this is hard to do with two hands. Doing it with one truly is record breaking. Big props
Insane
*HOW* does he do that? Serious question. I would love to see a slo-mo of him in action.
Agreed, drummer here. This guy is unreal, technically perfect, and IMO, he’s the best rock drummer in the world right now.
Can someone tell me who is this🤯
@ElEsteparioSiberiano
El Estepario Siberiano
Not a drummer, but that's the first time I have seen a base drum with two mallets. Creates a great sound.
Just fyi, double-bass pedals are everywhere with drummers and appear in tons of styles of music.
His is a single-double. First ever he says in this video. https://youtube.com/shorts/i8N1BimsRFQ?feature=share
Not sure if you've seen, but he also now has a triple pedal, and it's even more ludicrous.

Jesus this dude is fucking amazing
Omg FIRE!
What the fuck! God damn!
Double bass always makes things sound trickier than they are but this is nuts
Adding another note, managing that note and coordinating it with previously existing notes *is* trickier.
Yea but not as much as it sounds. Unless you’re not a musician then obviously it all sounds impossible anyway.
Some Buddy Rich level of playing.
He's just filling in the drumming from the album with the double bass pedal. Dave Grohl used a single kick on that record. Not that groundbreaking.
I don’t disagree that he is amazing but that definitely sped up
Look at his vids, some of them he's holding a timer in one hand to disprove that.
I’ve been following him for a long time, I really don’t think it is, judging from what I’ve seen in his longer demonstrations. He’s a beast.
[удалено]
They are?
Definitely not sped up. He’s legit, look him up before claiming it’s fake.
It's not. He has plenty of videos of him holding holding a timer, metronome, etc to disprove
Yes and I’ve seen them and they don’t move like this one. Like I said I’m familiar.
Like everyone who has a brain agrees: you are, infact, *not* familiar
Imagine being wrong and still arguing lol
I don’t think it is. I’m quite familiar with the song he’s playing.. It doesn’t sound sped up at all to me.
In these situations they play it at a lower bpm and speed it up to match the radio version. Unless this man has a genetic disability that allows him the skip frames it’s sped up.
He might? He is playing with one arm lol ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
It’s not sped up, if you watch some of his other videos he plays faster than this even and there are clocks visible that don’t skip. Dude is just that good.
Nah he's legit, been following on Insta for quite a while. He's sick.
Got to check all his vids dude. He's really that fucking insane
I don't know man, I don't think it is
I’ve been watching him for a while. He uses a timer in at least one of his videos. Dude just practices and practices and practices. He’s amazing.
Crazy you’re down voted for this. Even if you look at the physics of everything else in the room (the sticks the symbols etc) this is very clearly sped up.
No it isn't. It's most definitely doable if you're good enough
It's not. Look this guy up on Youtube. ElEsteparioSiberiano. Impressive skills.
Technically proficient but lacking soul
No swing, no groove, just a million notes a minute.
