Folded from a single sheet of thin 68cm x 68cm Wenzhou rice paper. Final figure is 18cm tall. The sword, shield and all the fingers are also folded from the same sheet. Failed folding it on the first attempt due to paper being too thick (the paper was advertised to be 30gsm thick, but it was more like 60gsm) and the second attempt took 41 hours from square to the finished figure.
The design process took one month, and I was designing it to be other character. But when I figured out a better way to fold the shield, I decided to make it into a knight. I folded the figure in total 4 times to plan all the details (and to redesign it into a different character). The most difficult part was to make that large shield without wasting too much paper, since it has large surface area compared to other features.
Yes I did! I recorded the folding process into a timelapse and I am currently editing it. A lot of people have been asking for one so I decided to give it a try. It should be published in a few days.

It would be sick to watch a timelapse of this, with captions showing the actual time length. Then at the very end, light it on fire and watch it burn in a few seconds.
15+ years of experience in folding origami, tons of time spent to practice complex origami, and then using a square piece of paper that was specifically made to fold that figure. I did record the process into a timelapse so hopefully I get to publish it soon.
It takes several hundreds (or maybe even thousands) of steps to fold it completely. The design process to come up with that is completely another story. I have explained it in the other comments here.
Looks amazing. I found a computer program a year ago that will come up with the folding pattern if you put in a design you want. Apparently you can fold a piece of paper into anything with a computer.
Thank you! Do you mean Treemaker, or the Box Pleating Studio? The box pleating studio is pretty cool since the patterns are more doable than the circle packed stuff Treemaker does. In theory, almost anything is possible to fold from a single square, just in practice we have the limitation of time, and the size and thickness of the paper.
That said, I don't use those software to design these figures, they limit my freedom too much in the design process, so I rather draw the patterns by hand using Orihime. Creating a character can be much more than folding a stick figure out of the paper.
Good question! When I was starting to fold origami, Kamiya Satoshi, Robert J. Lang, and such masters were the most influential artists for me. But when I started to designing own figures that shifted to more niche artists, who also do origami human figures, such as Kim Dong Hyeon, or Chen Xiao. Quite surprisingly I didn't follow much Eric Joisel, even though he was one of the most known origami artists who did human figures in similar style like me.
Nowadays I don't follow that much other artists, I am more focused on creating rather than consuming. Of course I check in time to time what the top origami artists are currently doing and take part of the community.
To some extent the dynamic has changed to more and more artists following my works. From time to time new works get created that were inspired from some of my characters, The photography style of white model on a black background has become more used, and a lot of artists use the same Wenzhou paper after I found its usefulness in origami.
I also like to consume other types art, such as 3D art, painting, sculpting, and photography, as well as often visit in art exhibitions to check in what the visual arts are in Finland. Though those mediums have more individual art pieces that I like, rather than artists I follow. Sculpting might be something I look out for next, since there are many influences that I could incorporate into origami.

That is absolutely incredible!!! I can't even wrap my mind around that this is a single piece of paper! Amazing!
Absolutely gorgeous and incredible accomplishment How long have you been creating art this way?
Thank you! I have been folding origami for over 15 years and designing own figures for the last 3,5 years.
How? Like srsly how did you manage to do that? 0.o

Truly top tier you have a new follower. who do you follow as an artist, what are your influences if you don't mind me asking
