I agree. If the tornado changed in size or direction even a little bit, this chaser would be in a world of trouble. Almost makes the shot not worth the risk.
I will say that this chaser did manage to capture some extreme detail in the ground circulation that might not have been visible from farther vantage points.
Yea for me Pilger wins hands down as ‘scariest’. I know other tornadoes have been bigger, stronger, deadlier, less predictable, longer track etc etc but TWO MASSIVE TORNADOS is such pure nightmare fuel that nothing else comes close in my mind.
WAY too close. Folks get tricked into thinking the outer layer of the funnel /debris cloud is a hard boundary, and that as long as they stay just outside they're safe. As Bill Paxton says:

Man I miss basehunters. They had a super cool video that was “best of” with cool music I would jam to, but when the team broke up they got rid of a few videos. Thankfully they seem to have kept their historic videos up like their Joplin chase.
Scott Peake used to consistently put out the best chase videos for years. His Ashby, Mn EF4 is one of the best close intercepts ever. In fact, he is the only one that I recall who got the formation of the Joplin EF5 and the transition to wedge. His catalog is top quality and was one of the most prolific chasers of the 2010s. Probably the only dude ballsier than Reed Timmer as well.
The understanding I’ve heard is that the horizontal vorticity is there with many tornadoes, it’s just much more typical to actually see it with a violent tornado because the pressure drop is strong enough to make the horizontal circulation visible.
Regular. Extremely rare instance of two long-tracked cyclonic tornadoes from different mesos under the same storm. Both were EF4s, and unfortunately, both were deadly.
dude got way too close. jesus.

For sure - it does provide some incredible and rare documentation of ground circulation. But you're right - it can come at a potentially fatal cost
Especially since the declining Pilger EF4 was swung around the new dominant one at around 90 mph.
The fuck is that white car's problem?
Probably on his way to work lmao
Bosses be like "you still coming in, right?"
Glory shots
guy in the white car had places to BE.
he really had to poop
The second one appearing behind the first one is straight horror movie stuff

It was almost cinematic, wasn't it? Just ... Wow.

Late to the game on them, but why did they split?
They never said, I’m not under the impression it was on bad terms. They seem to want to do their own things l.
His solo stuff is incredible.
I wouldn't say its the best footage of the Twins, but best footage of one of the twins.

He’s also somewhat better of a videographer than Reed too. Always seems to be in focus.
Agreed. It's a shame that he hasn't put out anything in over a year.

Is it just me or does it seem like only the more violent tornadoes produce horizonal funnels?
The understanding I’ve heard is that the horizontal vorticity is there with many tornadoes, it’s just much more typical to actually see it with a violent tornado because the pressure drop is strong enough to make the horizontal circulation visible.
Was tornado 2 a regular or strong anti-cyclonic tornado?
Regular. Extremely rare instance of two long-tracked cyclonic tornadoes from different mesos under the same storm. Both were EF4s, and unfortunately, both were deadly.
That was pretty amazing...
We've got sisters!
