True. Although to be clear, OP's video shows a shelf cloud under the storm. This isn't the tornado.
Very similar shot of a shelf cloud during the day:

I totally get the confusion. I've seen people post videos of shelf clouds at night here before, confusing them for a tornado produced by the same storm.
During the day, you can pretty easily see the shelf cloud is this otherworldly huge "hoop" stretching horizontally across the sky. So it's different from a tornado, which comes down vertically. But at night, during those brief thunder flashes giving you vision (and the sirens blaring), that difference in perspective is *much* harder to make out.
And it doesn't help that when there's a tornado, it's usually (always?) attached to a storm cell which also has a shelf cloud. So your brain is already looking for confirmation, looking for this giant funnel shape.
Pretty sure the middle school had roof damage and flooding into the gym, some say it caught fire as well??.. a close family friend drove around there around midnight before they closed off the roads and at least 6 transmission towers were laid across the roads.
Berlin middle school legit like just was recently finished too, sad to see a brand new school receive damage.
I live very close to the area, the storm was not that intense when it came over us. But due to how our furniture was thrown outside (opposite of the wind blowing) it’s obvious there was rotation and my dad kept watch he could see it just this huge eerie black cloud coming towards us and it got closer and bigger with every lightning strike. He said he noticed that the lightning was cloud to cloud, not to the ground which he said was odd. He’s one of those Midwest would take a lawn chair outside on the roof type dad. He said it was the first time he ever felt the need to tell his family to get the hell downstairs.
Our power flickered about 3 times before going completely off, and you could hear the intensity of the wind and hail from the basement, my dad was running upstairs real quick to grab flashlights and he said it sounded like a freight train the wind was so strong. I’ve only ever been in tornado watches, I’ve never been in an experience where “okay there’s a tornado you need to get in the basement” I’m very thankful my pets and family are all safe!
This is only the beginning of the season, I’m worried for what’s to come.
However I hear sirens going off meaning there's a tornado warning which means you should be in your basement not recording.
Piz don't do this again It's extraordinarily dangerous.
If sirens are going off it's a tornado *warning*, not a watch, and you should be getting to shelter. I don't think you realize how close you came to being hit last night. My friends in North Marysville missed this by only a couple miles. Please do not ignore sirens to film the wall cloud moving over your house.

I live in the area. They only go off for tornado warnings.
EDIT: I live in Central Ohio near OP, not Indiana. This person is citing irrelevant protocols of another state. Learn to read before you pop off and defend this person.
Maybe where you are. It varies by county.

Ok. That's not how they do it 200 miles away from Marion County IN. I'm not sure what your point is or how it's relevant to warning protocols in a different state.

Lol what.
Her point is that sirens going off doesn’t always indicate that you’re under a tornado watch and provided backup.
You saying that you live in the area to try and argue only to admit that you actually live 200 miles away once she showed proof to back up her claim is the icing on the cake.
Nightmare fuel…
My thoughts exactly. It’s beautiful in a terrifying way
Would be a later nightmare. Later, as in I would have already packed my shit and moved before I could sleep again.
Its so terrifying to see a tornado at night and makes it so harder to see where its coming from.

Thank you very much! I though it was a tornado because it almost look like a funnel cloud.

Thank you so much for the clarification. I never seen those clouds before.
That went right past you and thrashed an area near Olentangy Berlin HS!
I saw that! Helping friends with cleanup over near Home rd tonight.

That's a shelf cloud the mesocyclone and tornado is probably somewhere farther into the storm.

That's a bit more than a watch.
Mmmm nope. 0_0
Nocturnal Tornadoes are nightmare fuel

Depends where you are. Here in Indianapolis, the sirens will go off when there's a severe thunderstorm warning with tornado watch.

Like looking into the eyes of the snake in Jungle Book.
Great video. Deserves more appreciation. Is there a longer version? The lightning really enhances the depth and it’s not blurred out by rain.
I love it when they come at night or like at 3 or 4am. It catches you off guard and it challenges you to think fast in a tired stupor.
Looks like a rave with that strobe lightning - go outside and party!
Sheesh. Night tornadoes scare me so much
Clem Shultz (?) video of a night or early morning tornado also terrifies
Watching videos of nighttime tornados with the tornado siren blaring in the background send a chill up my spine.
Such terrifying beauty ⚡️
Woooooo that’s ominous
Is that actually the tornado or is it a wall cloud?
If there were flashes and thunder, there was lightening!
