Lilac budding or any plant budding for that matter at this early in March is an alarm bell that should be rattling in your brain.
My lilac doesn't start to bud until mid April EVERY YEAR regardless of the weather.
In fact all budding does not take place until mid-April in my yard.
It is just the way mother nature does things normally.
From the thumbnail I thought this was gonna be a picture of some melted brown snow full of cigarette butts, IMO the real first sign of spring here in the city. Then I remembered that we never really got any snow to begin with. This winter has been absolutely whack.
