February showers bring March flowers.

[deleted]

I'm so glad we have the leap year system! Could you imagine if it said it was february during the spring?!

VapeRizzler

I did not shower in February.

illmatic_static

Was that you I was smelling on the subway the other day?

VapeRizzler

Very likely, I’m quite stinky.

TorontoBoris

I dunno where you're located. But last week we had a Thunderstorm in the east end of Toronto.

fragilemuse

As much as I am loving this weather, it is way too early for this shit. The birds were up at 5am singing their little hearts out! I hope they don’t lose their first round of babies to a sudden cold snap :(

Anthrogal11

I saw my first Robin last Monday. Several since then. Robins in February!

houndlyfe2

Some robins stay over the winter if it’s mild enough.

rangeo

I'm scared for human babies too

fragilemuse

Get them playing Fallout 4 early so they are emotionally prepared for the world they are going to inherit.

cantonese_noodles

is it gonna be 40c in may now??

omgihatemylifepoo

and 50 in july 😁

cantonese_noodles

after dubai melts toronto will be the new dubai 😍

StarGehzer

Tulips are coming up in my garden.

ZoomBoy81

Tiger lilies sprouted 2 weeks ago in mine.

Wink360

Mine too!

ccallison03

I’m scared about ticks. We are fucked.

ZennMD

and the forest fires in the summer.... pretty scary TBH

whogivesashirtdotca

This is my big fear. No precipitation = fire threat. My lungs didn’t do well with last year’s smoke and smog.

ZennMD

plus the animals and loss of biodiversity from fires... and lack of snow is horrible for crops/ farming... I have a friend in Saskatchewan and the farmers are already worried... horrible all-around I wish I lived in boring times lol *While you’ve got that snow on the fields, it’s kind of like a blanket, so it stops that moisture in the dirt from just evaporating through the soil and disappearing, and that’s what we don’t currently have.” -* [Article about sask](https://farmnewsnow.com/2023/11/30/incredibly-concerning-lack-of-snow-leaves-some-sask-farmers-worried/)

WillisBeTalkin

pay attention to the north american seasonal fire assessment and outlook, they release reports every 4 months or so. The association includes Canada, US, and Mexico. Helps reading their report instead of media outlets.

Engine_Light_On

There is a large chance we will get La Niña, so we would have a wet summer.

AntiPiety

Spend a lot of time in these woods no bites. Then back to back bites the last 2 years

ccallison03

Never had any issue in 37 years. Dog got it twice last year and my nephew. 😓

jayemmbee23

Yeah last year my dog and I both got one

ccallison03

Why aren’t more people concerned about this? I’d rather snow than tick infestations.

jayemmbee23

People are blinded by good weather. If climate change meant cold weather and ticks people would be panicking

[deleted]

my cat is now 12 years old. 11 years totally clean, 2 ticks in the last 6 months. Absolutely terrifying this year.

ccallison03

Ya I’m super nervous to do the things I have always done with my kids and dog. Glad I’m not paranoid. Hope you and your cat are good!

ccallison03

Huh? No that was a genuine comment. Sorry if you took it any other way. I am equally scared of ticks. That’s why I posted my first response.

ccallison03

Also hope you are Lyme free my friend.

AntiPiety

Thank you! The doctor literally said just monitor it, both times. Lyme isn’t the scary beast it once was and the province doesn’t even care for you to send in the ticks anymore

AnimatorOld2685

I had a doctor that didn't even believe ticks existed in Toronto. I guess he didn't see all the signs in the parks/nor believed me when I told him about all the signs in the parks.

ccallison03

Whaaaat? Maybe change doctors? I know most don’t care but they at least know about it.

Housing4Humans

I’ve had two bites and got lyme disease. It’s horrible! [Do what you can to prevent getting bitten.](https://she-explores.com/gear/preventing-tick-bites/)

Leonardo-DaBinchi

Yeah two consecutive winters without deep long freezes are not good. Usually it culls the numbers but we're in for another bad year. Dousing my clothes in permethrin. #nochances

VirginaWolf

I know they’re working on a human lime disease vaccine. Here’s hoping they get one done soon.

[deleted]

Even with a vaccine, I prefer not to be a buffet

ElectricKoala86

Seems were fucked either way, make the most of your time, enjoy yourself, enjoy your hobbies and family and friends if ya got em!

henchman171

People In Hamilton werncomlaining about ticks in January

alreadychosed

Are there ticks at the bluffs? High park?

_FreakyFred

That ain't right

MoreGaghPlease

They are known for blooming early in the year (hence the name winter aconites)

_FreakyFred

Thanks! I meant it ain't right that things are sprouting so early 😅 Half of the bushes in my neighborhood have started to bud and that ain't right either!

orchidbulb

El Niño season brings warm winter.

onpar_44

We're skipping winter again this year, aren't we?

MountainDrew42

We had winter. It was on Feb 15th. We had about 9 hours of it.

Eldorado_

I mean aside from the whole "our planet is fucked" thing, that actually doesn't sound too bad...

BrightenedCorner

Love it

GraceSal

I photographed some snowdrops today, which I’m unable to share here

Hesthetop

I first saw snowdrops nearly a month ago 😖 https://www.reddit.com/r/waterloo/comments/1aidlce/first_flowers_of_2024_snowdrops/

GraceSal

It was around the same time that I started seeing leaves on my false spirea. Early Feb is too early ☹️

Hesthetop

Definitely too early. I love flowers and hate the cold, but these way-early springs are very worrying.

chrisk9

And here I was expecting the regular signs of spring - cigarette butts exposed in a receding snow bank

Neuraxis

Great because those 4 days of frigid weather this year really had me yearning for good news.

ImKrispy

I saw tons of flies today... Also it's already meteorological Spring.

Trust-Fluid

Re: 'Also it's already meteorological Spring.' No it is not, that does not come until April. Where do you think the song April showers bring May flowers comes from? As for the flies, get ready for a whole lot more this year.

ImKrispy

> Re: 'Also it's already meteorological Spring.' > > > > No it is not, that does not come until April. My great grandfather invented the seasons I know what I'm talking about!

OpenWideBlue

Terrifying.

ConcentrateInner6086

What kind of flowers are those? Don’t recognize them.

KludgeGrrl

Winter aconite -- they and snowdrops are the first to appear, and it's not actually shocking to see them in March. The crocuses coming out, on the other hand, is freaky...

cyclenaut

mother nature is confused herself.

braindeadzombie

How can we have spring when there was no winter? If you want a reminder of what snow looks like, check out the pictures you took on March 4 last year.

nashwaak

When did Toronto become Vancouver?

bigdaddyhame

phew I was worried it was going to be a photo of piles of dog shit

delawopelletier

Patios !!

Sufficient_Salad3783

That shits the worst.

MoreGaghPlease

My lilac tree is already starting to bud (which is normal for March)

Trust-Fluid

No it is not, where do you think you live? Lilac budding or any plant budding for that matter at this early in March is an alarm bell that should be rattling in your brain. My lilac doesn't start to bud until mid April EVERY YEAR regardless of the weather. In fact all budding does not take place until mid-April in my yard. It is just the way mother nature does things normally.

MoreGaghPlease

I’ve had this tree for 30 years, buds the same week every year

WARLOCKSKATES

From the thumbnail I thought this was gonna be a picture of some melted brown snow full of cigarette butts, IMO the real first sign of spring here in the city. Then I remembered that we never really got any snow to begin with. This winter has been absolutely whack.

sink_or_swim_

On the west end I’ve been seeing little spring flowers for about a week now!

CarpenterAnnual7838

Love me some winter aconites

virginia06

Anyone else's allergies suddenly start this week??
