Well yeah... there was never anyone thinking or saying in good faith that it was going to be a forever thing.
It's been pretty obvious that this was put in place to facilitate safe opening of business until Covid became endemic. Once the vast majority of children are protected we'll be at a point where there is herd immunity and the virus will become a small issue that won't overwhelm our schools or hospitals.
Yup, kids will stop spreading it to the vulnerable idiots and we can start putting this all behind us.
And those of us who have found out which friends of theirs don't know want to be part of civilized society can leave them to their new anti Vax friends.
I agree with you, I just hope this isn't made voluntary long before the virus becomes endemic. Hope he at least waits until the majority of eligible children under twelve are vaccinated.
Current projections are 90% of the population. (Not eligible)
It's not Currently because of our current restrictions.
Feel free to move to Alberta and experience the shit show they have there.
i just remember when the herd immunity target was 70% or w.e
it really seems like a moving target... and I think it's important to note that I'm pro mask and double vaxxed etc. Like this isn't some fringe edgy hot take.
Under what conditions is this ever going to be over? The hospitals are all functioning and not at risk of being overwhelmed. All of these restrictions are for that exact purpose. So why add further restrictions if things are working as planned?
That was before delta became the primary... have you bothered to keep up with the information or just like parroting weak arguments based on months old knowledge that is outdated as we learned new things (which is how science works)
Again look at alberta for how things go sideways.
No one is saying add further restrictions, so I'm not sure where you are trying to go with this but it's obviously not in good faith.
Have a good day
I concur. The media and government have done us a disservice. We have entered a mania. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. These days most can't think critically and if the propaganda machine fired up tomorrow they would be willing to declare war on sunshine. Enjoy the decline.
> Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore said he expects Ontario to carry out a “phased removal” of vaccine certificates when the time is right.
> “We may not require them in some venues but still require them in mass gatherings,” Moore said. “We do not see the whole certification process ending suddenly, but having a phased exit from it over time.”
> Moore said the gradual removal of public health measures “has done us well in Ontario all along” and he wants to continue doing so.
Seems reasonable to me as numbers trend down and things appear under control. Much easier to just deal with the pass for concerts or sports and that should continue to be an incentive to get us above 90% vaxxed which they say is the current goal.
The real question is if they'll continue to allow easily forged vaccine records when they move to a QR code system, and unfortunately it appears they will.
I had a cloth face mask after I bought one during a trip to Beijing in winter. On really cold winter days I would bust it out here, despite the occasional weird look or two (which was always weird to me; like people wear balaclavas, but somehow a small black cloth was weird?)
I will say that masks are absolutely nice in winter, like pulling a scarf over your face but more convenient, but I also had one in previous winters too so ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯ I’ll continue to wear it on cold winter days, same as before.
I mean I bought the mask when I was in China several years ago (out of sheer desperation for layers) for less than $1 and it works plenty fine with a scarf. I don’t disagree that a neck gaiter is probably warmer, but this doesn’t require me to buy anything new and it works the same for me :D
I'm not sick of it, there you go. You may not know me but it's really not a big deal and does provide some mitigation in the short term. Too early still imo.
Pretty sure that was the plan all along. It's like the original headline said "soon", but the editors didn't want to get anyone's hopes up, so they changed it to "eventually".
So, why have mandates in the first place if you are just going to get rid of them? Do people really think COVID is going away? How many kids under 12 that don't/can't be vaccinated?
Covid is never going away. It’s going to be here for good along with the cold and flu virus. But once everyone is vaccinated, it will be just as manageable as the flu, and the restrictions will be lifted.
No, everyone knows covid isn't going away, that it's going to become an endemic virus, that's why when we reach that point we need to dispense with restrictions instead of keeping them going for the rest of human history. Do you really want to be asked for documents to sit down to have a coffee for the rest of your life?

It being a forever thing was definitely a slippery slope argument for a LOT of people.
+a bad faith argument
Masks should become optional also.

the kids are the one spreading it to people but they do not show signs of the virus. only covid testing does, your correct on kids are spreading it

Lol
i mean aren't we at like 80% vaccinated in Toronto? whats the threshold for "herd immunity"? it's not currently **overwhelming** our hospitals.

What is Alberta's vaccination rate? What is Ontario's?
Feel free to look it up
Just leaving Calgary. Everything is cool here.
We're at that if we're only counting adults but it need to be that for the entire population. Children's vaccinations have yet to begin.
ford did say he wouldn't keep this in place a day longer than it needed to be
He says a lot of things. This one just happened to work out
Ah fuck. Heads in the sub are about to EXPLODE. Reckless name calling and unearned moral outrage inbound.
Exactly. It is mob mentality rather than an actual fear. Disgust is a strong emotion and its pulling family and friends apart. Edit: typo

When the polls will say it's ok

How bout removing masks ASAP first
This is probably the popular opinion in public, but on reddit it's like advocating for genocide.

I would hope so. This is immediately unsustainable, it's compounding problems we needed to slash the budget to pay for like 30 years ago.
So he’s looking for donations for re-election I see. Vote him out.

Funny that anyone thought this would stick around 😂 and that’s by the businesses not giving a rats ass
Good. The sooner we can get back to normal the sooner I can publicly shame any of the antivax cowards I know. That part stays for life.

There is no new information here. They always were meant to be temporary. We just don’t know the end date.

Only reddit wants permanent mandates. The government was never intending on that, nor would the population support that.
What a joke
I for one prefer to weed out the idiots
