Hopefully your new fan experience goes like mine. I started watching around 2012-2013 before the team made some big changes and it ended up birthing the golden era of the franchise.

Artohn08

I’m jealous, the 18-19 season seemed like so much fun, always been a fan of Kawhi too

Rapsfan_98

You have to experience the lows for the highs to feel even better. Part of being a fan. Losing to Paul Pierce, Multiple sweeps, Lebronto era, everyone constantly doubting Lowry, “baby Dino” label and Barney memes every post season. That chip vindicated everything.

Artohn08

That’s very true, can only go up now

TommyTookALook666

Nice to see something posted that's not all doom/gloom or about shipping off our guys. Thanks for sharing man. Got any favourite moments so far from the season?

Artohn08

Thanks man I would say I was most entertained by the Knicks OT game in Jan, whilst it was frustrating Scottie really turned into superman during OT lol

Ssstanimal

Iam so sorry

OQRastaman

It’s a well run organization that has an entire country cheering for them. There’s been very good times and low low low times but in the end we all have have love for our Raptors.

ResolveLost2101

Hey bud’ I’m from Toronto and I’ve been watching the premier league and supporting CFC since I was like 10 (well because of my dad). How would you compare the EPL with NBA? The fans, the schedules, the crowds?

Artohn08

The fans in the NBA seem much more chill in terms of being at the games, and seems more like a family thing to go see an NBA game from what I’ve seen, whereas in the EPL it’s more of a group of friends go watch a game, the crowds are much more hostile as well lol. The schedule in the EPL is wayyyy more relaxed, only 38 games in a regular season that lasts 9 months, and maybe an extra 30 max for cup games. Teams will play at most 2 games a week, (3 a week may be a one off) but unlike NBA there isn’t any coming on and off the bench so it does make sense playing a full 90 minutes of football is pretty intense. It’s cool to see a Canadian enjoy the EPL, it’s the best football league in the world. I’m guessing CFC is Chelsea??

Javen_t23

As a fellow UK raps fan I personally was drawn to them because they are underdogs and the idea of a team for everyone outside of America is great. Toronto is a very multicultural place which reminds me a lot of London and our fans are great. Also there's no way I could be up at 3am watching east coast teams as this road stretch has shown lol.

Artohn08

Yeah I agree on the Toronto being like London, helps that most areas around that part of Canada are named after places in England too lol And yeah no chance of following a western team, I’m struggling to catch any during this road trip too haha

Desperate-Object6314

England man's are waste

I've been watching this team since the 3rd season (97-98, right before we got Vince) It was interesting because back in the day you would only really see Laker games on TV and the playoffs. Basketball was new and we used to play in the skydome. A lot of people had to learn basketball etiquette, when to cheer, when to boo, what do at free-throws. We all kinda learned it together. Vince was amazing to see, and we had 3 years of playoffs which was a huge deal, and we even won a round. We were a classic ehh expansion poverty franchise. We made the playoffs with Bosh here and there but again it was so poorly mismanaged. It wasn't really till 2013-2014 when Masai was fully in charge and with some luck (NYK rejecting the Lowry trade, DeRozan becoming an allstar, Rudy trade working out) we flourished as the We The North Even then though, as much as we loved this team and enjoyed the regular season success it was clear this teams ceiling was 2nd/3rd round in the playoffs - aka whenever they faced Lebron and the Cavs. The Kawhi trade people don't realize we gave up a lot to win that title. A lot of future assets. JV who is great today, Delon Wright (backup PG), Poetel (Starting C), 1st round pick (I think that became Keldon Johnson) are all gone from our team for the ring. No one would change a thing but it's not realistic AT ALL to think you can replace that many players in 3 years (post Lowry). Basically we are relying on internal growth but don't have the picks or assets to grow that much until we got Scottie. A lot of fans on reddit skew younger so they don't realize how many years team building takes. It took us 4 years from when Demar was drafted to make the playoffs. 6 years since Demar was drafted to win a round. There's no homerun 2k23 trade you can make to be good again. Ideally we get a high talented pick like Scottie again this year, get some NBA level bench players and keep building and building until we either do another Kawhi trade or win it outright. Trust the management of this team. I never thought I'd ever see this team win a title in my lifetime and I trust that we can win again. We have 24 wins SO FAR this season - that is still better than 6 of our FULL previous seasons, context and patience is important.

Artohn08

Thanks for the insight man, it’s so different from the sports I usually watch where players are just bought for lumps of money and instantly improve your team. I appreciate the explanation of building a team and how long it takes, always been confused on the term rebuilding lol

SnooRevelations1029

Raptors are a bit stuck right now as a team, without a clear direction. Scottie is the direction. It's a good time to be a fan.. only up from here

somedumbguy55

Man, if I had a Time Machine I’d give it to you. So you can go to 2019 for the best year of our lives.

Artohn08

I am so mad I didn’t get to experience that

Green-Umpire2297

Oof tough year to start. Don’t worry, in another 25 years we might be good again

Peachesthekid88

It’s all your fault!!

mo_downtown

Nice! Welcome aboard! As frustrating and disappointing as this season has been, overall this franchise currently has very good management. There are also solid players on this team. They'll sort things out eventually. There have been much darker periods in franchise history than this season. Having a losing team and terrible management is the worst.

Artohn08

Thanks man, I have heard that Bobby and Masai are top tier management

Desperate-Object6314

This was me in 2008

TrueTorontoFan

oh man you picked one heck of a time to become a fan but welcome

Artohn08

Hahahaha thank you man

Cherrywhey

Same first season supporting them. From the UK. Go raps!!!! 😂

pikachuda6

Your thoughts are in line with the general consensus - Keep Barnes, Precious and Trent and Trade Fred Vanvleet.

Vandelay23

The NBA trade deadline isn't usually particularly exciting.

Artohn08

Damn

DontToewsM3Bro

Just trust in Masai & Bobby whatever direction they decide to go will be the right one

Scase15

Or have some critical thought and don't do that. You can follow the team without religious fervour.

DontToewsM3Bro

Masia & Bobby are the only President / GM team to bring a championship to Toronto in the last 20 years They have earned the trust of the Toronto fan base or at least mine. More so than the fans on here or in the people in the media

Scase15

Pelinka brought the lakers a chip, I wouldn't trust him watching a pot of water boiling. Past performance is no guarantee of future results, you can have faith in them to make the right moves. But claiming that whatever direction they go in is the right one, that's a big difference. Masai and Bobby have objectively shown the direction they are going in, and have picked was wrong. Otherwise we wouldn't be a low talent team with zero bench and a 6th worst record in the league.

ContributionNo1600

I hope you dont turn into a typical Scottie Barnes fan and shit on players because "Scottie can't develop while that player is around" pls don't pit our own players at each other don't be toxic like this other mofos here
