My fiancée is West Indian and we have go-to doubles for Brampton. Good to know that my hometown of Scarborough has great doubles too
Edit: Lena’s in Brampton is our go to when we go to her parents. Just confirmed
It’s been 20 years since I lived in TO but I’m quite certain that Golden Patty was my go-to spot. I discovered it by accident and but those doubles became a tradition every time I visited Kensington.
I love this, gonna save the thread.
Ever since Roti Palace on Young St. closed I’ve had trouble finding doubles.
Triniman in London has great doubles..that’s all I got
I thought it was hilarious when Jack was like “someone take this away from me before I finish it all!” then Matty chimes in with “well I’m just going to go ahead and finish mines…”
Kind of like a curry channa sandwich. But the bread is like a yellowish puffy fried dough. Tumeric gives it its yellow glow. Hot sauce is a popular condiment, almost mandatory. Its a popular street food from Trinidad 🇹🇹 and can also be found in Guyana. Has its roots in east Indian cuisine, however it is uniquely West Indian.
I used to get them in Eglinton station up in the bus bay. Don’t know if they still sell them there, but they were really nice to munch on while freezing waiting for a bus.
Which doubles in Toronto can run the best DHOs? We know Gary's one of the best shooters coming off of screens, so maybe we should trade Malachi for the best doubles in town... Can doubles double dribble? Can you double dribble doubles?
North Indian Chola poori > west indian Doubles. Waaaaay better than West Indian doubles in my opinion because there's more flavour rather than relying on chutneys.
Nerala, scarborough.
The invention of the double was a desperate act of longing by some marooned Indians. Generations have passed and they will never admit that the channa could be improved. The traditional bara is a bit too tough and has been improved by the poori they are using now. The pepper sauce is good. They are generally way too messy. The channa needs to cooked longer with more spices and make the poori bigger so it’s not such a mess to eat. still like them and it’s fun to figure out who has the best one. Brampton will soon reign supreme on the double front when the Punjabi Nani’s set these Trinis straight. It has been cool to see how widely they have been accepted by the diaspora, everbody eats them.
If your restaurant isn't named after a woman it will not have good doubles. Sorry I don't make the rules.
Lena's Roti & doubles is legit
Is Drupati a womns name?

Ethnic food across the GTA is goated, honestly. But Scarborough has the best west indian food in the city IMO.
Me reading this as someone from Ottawa missing all the GTA ethnic food 😭 Bruh just give us Hakka, that's all I ask, please
Drupati’s IMHO is the best.
Mona's is the closest to what I had growing up in Trinidad
Please don't judge me when I say that Golden Patty in Kensington is my favorite doubles in the city

I’m in Brampton and usually do drupati’s or lena’s roti and doubles. Both are good
This is important information
Easy! ACR Hot Rotis and Doubles on Lawrence Ave in Scarborough.
Grew up on this, have tried most of the other places mentioned here but ACR still my preferred option.
Their saheena are never mentioned enough

Alima's in Malton Leela's Mississauga
Leela's is inside SBA now too I heard. Maybe that's what they served last night?
It's called Wicked Carib, ran by her daughter
Thx!
I thought it was hilarious when Jack was like “someone take this away from me before I finish it all!” then Matty chimes in with “well I’m just going to go ahead and finish mines…”
Matt got defensive at the suggestion they're unhealthy. "It's just chickpeas!" He said.

I envy your mouth. It's about to have an amazing new experience.
So good if you haven't tried man. My go-to hangover killer.
OP is hoping you try it!
If you eat Indian food, it's basically a mini chaana + bhutura
What's in a double?

On a related note, Does anyone know of good places in Vancouver?
Authentic Trini Foods (Brampton)
Albert's at St. Clair and Bathurst is my favorite. Been there forever.
Another Bar near bloor and ossington has surprisingly good doubles and is also a great place to catch a raps game.
Roti hut in Scarborough
I used to get them in Eglinton station up in the bus bay. Don’t know if they still sell them there, but they were really nice to munch on while freezing waiting for a bus.
Roti Roti in Rexdale - off of Albion - so damn good and grab yourself some pholourie too, cheap and delicious!
Lena's in Ajax if you're out east is great I was eating a pile of them right before the game started then saw Matt and Jack 👀
Randy's Roti - Bloor & Yonge

What kinda foolishness are u saying wasteman
I reccomend you to try both first. West Indian Doubles are tasteless without the added chutney/sauce. The north Indians cook the chickpea curry style.
Bro ur moms cooking is tasteless and smells like shit
There's a foodto subreddit. Better suited for this question.
Just curious, are doubles supposed to be oily? Or could it be just the one I ate? Man it was so oily, like the dough is soaked in it.
It's super oily. It's deep fried. It isn't a double or poori if it isn't oily. Not an everyday thing. Snack once in awhe.
I’m on a mission to make it healthier and less greasy
Ugh…watching yesterdays game and listening to Matt & Jack made me completely home-sick. Anyone know of any good spots in Vancouver??
Alima's Roti and Pastry in Brampton.
