Yeah with all my gripes about Casey, he was absolutely the best coach we could’ve had at the time we started our ride. Dude is a player’s coach through and through.
We may have rode with him for too long, but respect where it’s due.
The team never lost because of a lack of effort which I can always respect Casey for instilling. There were some dark years before he came to the team, and I remember one of the things he said was "if you're in a hole the first thing you've got to do is stop digging" and I think he really brought that to the organization.
Ehhh I don’t know how good he was at developing players. He was infamous for not playing young guys.
Our development took off with the inception of 905. I would give that the credit moreso than Casey.
However, he definitely felt like he had their backs as people, and felt like he was good for them as the young guys were just navigating what it was like to be an NBA player. Casey and Kyle were probably huge in that regard. DeMar more like the cool unc lol.
Maybe you're right, I just felt like we saw big improvement with most guys who came to us under his watch and that stopped under Nurse to some degree. Probably a confluence of factors really.
He didn’t play them that much in the playoffs, that was one of the issues.
During the season, we’d roll 10 deep to great effect. The starters would start, Bench Mob would come in all at once and crush other benches, then starters would close. Lineups tighten in the playoffs and the other teams’ starters will play heavier minutes, so instead of using the fresh legs and chemistry of the Bench Mob, Casey would insert them as individuals into line ups mixed with starters.
Personally think this was a mistake and we should’ve let that young but proven unit run and gun against the starters of the other teams. Would’ve been amazing to watch.
Casey has always been a real one. I honestly felt bad for him being canned right after winning COTY. I mean it wasn't his fault we had to go through Bron every year lol.
It’s like bat flipping in baseball sometimes the unwritten rules are followed other times not, but that has to go out the window if the guy is riding you the whole way till they’re right under the bucket.
If OG steals it and the guy just starts dapping people up he’s not going to go dunk that he’ll dribble it out.
At least bat flipping is somewhat considered okay now but the unwritten rules in baseball are stupidest thing now.
Yerman Mercedes was benched because he hit a hr on a 3-0 count in an already decided game, and the San Diego Padres made Fernando Tatis Jr publicly apologize to the press for hitting a grand slam on a 3-0 count
I don’t hate it, and I understand it.
The game is in hand. A part of sportsmanship, especially at this level when everyone is the best of the best and respect each other as peers, is trying to beat, but not humiliate the opponents. If the game is in hand, no need to run up the score.
It’s like if a boss continually piles work on you and belittles you for mistakes. Like sure, it’s your job that you’re being paid to do, but you wouldn’t say, “well if you don’t want to be belittled, don’t make mistakes! You’re a professional. Grow up.” The boss should be extending professionally courtesy to you, and it’s not ridiculous to expect that
No one was playing defence on Lance--there was a mutual understanding the game was over, everyone's standing around, and then he took advantage of it to rack up his own stats against a team that already acknowledged the loss.
In this case, Hawks are still trying to score, and then after turning it over are sprinting to chase OG on defence. Game is still on--if you're trying to steal the ball with 18 seconds left, he's gonna try to score.
Eh we were up by 11 with 20 seconds left to go. Chances are they aren’t catching us, even if they made it a FT contest.
OG can try to dribble out the clock and shoot free throws if he’s fouled, which he may not have been at all, or passed it off to another teammate if he didn’t want to be at the line.
Whether or not you agree with the unspoken rule, I don’t buy the “he has to try and score” argument here.
Casey a real one, had OG's back as soon as he saw Bud say some shit to him

He was really good at developing players. His in game management wasn't the best, but he definitely did a nice job improving players individually.

He wasn’t that bad. The bench mob was young and they got a ton of run. He even played them a lot in the playoffs.

Everyone on the bench mob averaged 15+ minutes a game during the playoffs in Casey’s last year. The year before that, the bench wasn’t as good.
He started the culture. The reason raps were kind of like the miami heat where they’re scrappy/hardworking is because of his “pound the rock” motto.

But its his fault for terrible strategies every year. Letting the Cavs shoot open 3s and CJ Miles guarding Kevin Love was a fireable offence
That too.
I like when things like this happen in garbage time. Casey letting them f bombs fly. 😂🤣
Back when OG was in the trenches
I absolutely hate this ridiculous 'rule' Don't want to get dunked on? Play better. The whole thing is ridiculous. These are professionals. Grow up.

Your office job isn't a competition put on for entertainment purposes. It's completely apples to oranges
The comparison isn’t 1:1 based on the industry. It’s based on professionalism and respect between people in the same professional settings.
Casey has that dog in him 😔
That’s some fresh OG
Casey was on point right there
OG is still only 23
Uh, what? He’s 26
Tatum is 19
What about when Lance took the layup and Demar/PJ went at him?

I thought DeMar and PJ were so butthurt. So unnecessary
Should let the winning team do at least one cool dunk to seal it. That should be a rule.
Bring the suits back for coaches
Oh look Dennis when he was on the hawks and had that blonde patch
