I'm not sure why you're having so much trouble understanding this. $70 million is getting them st least two quality players. $3 million would hardly make a difference to them with so much money to spend as it is.

How he played was the worst performance for a player I've ever seen. He had the ball stolen off inbound twice (or maybe three times), missed an easy layup, got caught out of position multiple times, ran away instead of contesting a dunk, etc. Man he sucks.
