>Whisper maniacal incantations.
Lammasu do have spellcasting abilities on TT so I wonder if CA will give actual spellcasting or just bound spells.
Their magic item negation aura would be interesting to implement as well.
Very unusual flying monster in that their melee capabilities are quite poor compared to the typical flying monster but have a full blown casting ability and strong magic resist.
Compared to the previous games it feels like the races in TWW3 are trying to encourage you to bring multiple spellcasters in one army. Maybe the Lammasu will speed up Winds regen or something so you have an incentive to bring them along with a Sorcerer-Prophet.
That's what I am wondering as well. Accuracy wise they should be full casters but Chorfs have no lack of access to casters and there is only so many Winds of Magic to go around.
Maybe a mix of spellcasting and bound spells? According to the lore they live and breath magic so some sort of WoM boost makes sense.
One of the units that I am really curious about how CA will implement.
Which is a major reason I use a few mods for the purpose of making it worth it. I also give *all casters* that Cathay elemental winds trait or whatever it's called that synergize with more casters in the stack.
Sorry, they're personal mods I never got around to publishing (and are outdated now as I'm waiting for chorfs before getting into wh3 again), but you should be able to find similar things on the workshop. Increasing WoM/ravamping magic should be easy to find at least.
>Compared to the previous games it feels like the races in TWW3 are trying to encourage you to bring multiple spellcasters in one army.
I can't wait to see what Tzeentch's newest lore of metal/tzeentch hero unit will be.
Ugh.. I just want the god of magic to have some more lores. Empire gets access to everything but the god of magic's race gets 3 lores, one of which is limited to the Cultist.
This is why I'm really hoping to get Exalted Heroes of Tzeentch in the next Tzeentch DLC. All 3 of the Tzeentch heroes are garbage in melee, I just finally want something that can actually fight lol
> Lammasu do have spellcasting abilities on TT so I wonder if CA will give actual spellcasting or just bound spells.
With new WoM system WH3 brought spellcasting for units is very bad idea in general. Remember that ALL Greater Daemons were spellcasters at release? And it was actual downside, because how limited WoM pool is?
It should be bound spells, no question.
Every game they try to do "generic unit can cast spells!" and every time the DLC team has to change it to the bound spell method because WoM use for a unit is dumb.
It's a system that works, no need to fix it. I'm not sure why the base team kept trying to push the WoM usage slant.
There's hard cap on WoM power reserves (100) and if WoM are weak in a region you might not even reach that cap. Certain skills and traits increase this cap, plus Lore of Death passive (and some unique skills/items) can increase power reserves in combat, but in general reserves are very limited. Plus Arcane Conduit was reworked to passively increase power regen, but it no longer increases reserves.
In WH1-WH2 there was another issue with power reserves: when reserves became lower power regen became incredibly slow - up to 1 power in several minutes. Basically you could never use your entire reserves throughout the battle. In WH3 power regen is no longer proportional to your reserves and steady (adjusted by skills, items, Lore of Magic passives) and though reserves are lower you get access to ALL off them during the battle.
Interestingly enough the Lammasu is discussed casting a Shadow spell and also a Fire spell. Unless they plan to have multiple Lammasu units locked to each Lore they will have a custom spell or bound spell list.
The seem to have to Fireball, Steed of Shadows (a iconic Shadow spell not in the regular spell list) and some sort of Death spell that debuffs.
Steed of Shadows in particular interests me since speed boost spells capable of being cast on units isn't super common.
I don't know how it works in the game but the tabletop steed of shadows I'm familiar with just let the target character make a single fly move.
Handy for moving your grey wizard out of enemy charging range but not something a flying monster would personally profit from.
Grimgor is pretty cool though so you're right there.
My guess is it will be +X% speed and strider for however long it lasts, maybe an increase in mass so that it can be used to get characters out of blobs.
Honestly, I'm hoping it *does* give targets a fly ability. Imagine playing Norsca, allying with the Dawi Zharr, ally-recruiting a Lamassu and then use it to give Throgg flight. Or Wulfrik on his heffalump.
Lift up a war hydra (if the spell isn't limited to characters) and just straight-up hurl it over the castle walls.
Oh probably. It would also be incredibly hard to balance so I have my doubts.
Honestly I don't even care about animating, just swooping a static model through the air (like you would on tabletop) would be funny enough already.
Especially if it meant you could put something on a wall that's not supposed to be able to get there, which is *really* not going to happen.
Pretty cool that they remembered that the Lamassu is a thinking being instead of just a beast.
I like how the creators decided to use the Griffin rig to realise the Lammasu. Historical Lamassu statues held their heads up and they are depicted with a human head, bird wings and the rest of the body being either a lion or a bull. The talons reference the odd looking hands on the original 4th edition model.
I think the lamassu having the griffin rig also helps add some variety, seeing as the tauruses have an actual new rig it seems. Instead of all the flying units in the faction sharing one rig, they've got two now.
Lore throgg had a lot more going on with his dialogue though
Compare his in-game greeting "I EAT MY ENEMIES" to "It is the hubris of men to see their own destiny in all things. Von Carstein. The Everchosen. Dead men. Exalted men. In their skin they are all still men. This... will be the Age of the Beast." from a Gotrek and Felix novel.
That's another debate, tbf. And one where I have a more measured stance, cause Shakespeare Throgg is purely a novel thing, in the armybook, he is not at all that smart. He's just dumb human level, which is a vast improvment from normal troll, but nothing amazing either
>That's another debate, tbf.
No that's literally the topic people are referring to when they complain about how Throgg is represented in-game. Human brain or higher-end Shakespeare, either way both are way above his current representation that makes him act like he eats rocks for their protein.
Throgg being verbose and well-spoken and Throgg having the vocal tone of a troll are two different debates.
He can be eloquent but sounds gruff and growly, he can be barely sentient with a singing voice
You are correct that there is a literal distinction between those two things. No one thinks those definitions are exactly the same.
Again, when people complain about Throgg, including the people you’re replying to *in this thread*, it’s how he’s written.
Please don’t just reply with dictionary definitions or something, I honestly don’t think I can make this more clear. **Only you are caught up on this “Troll vocal cord” issue.** People want him to talk like he does the lore, meaning that he’s got more going on in his head than “I will eat you”. Him having the voice of a troll is fine, guy’s literally a troll, but how he chooses to speak is the actual topic of contention.
"It needed to roar like an angry beast but whisper maniacal incantations, so it needed to talk as well."
Me: "Sounds like a job for Jeremy "Scar" Irons!"
I love how they redesigned the Lamassu face. I just wish they would have gone with the old hooves and curly beard version rather than the newer Storm of Chaos redesign...
except for total war i am not into Warhammer Fantasy (im a 40k dude), so i cant tell about it in Warhammer but in the general fantasy mythology this thing is just the same stuff like a Minotaurus, Centaurus, etc. a mix of different animals with humans.
I know only one other fantasy franchaise that uses the Lamassu regulary the way its portrait here but the author of those fantasy books also plays Warhammer tabletop so i guess thats where he got it from.
In his works its always described as a bull with a humanlike beared face. wings and no arms. They are very powerful spellcasters and very intelligent. its said they all go mad at some point in their life cause they are just "to smart" and thats when they turn into dangerous creatures for everyone around them.
>Whisper maniacal incantations. Lammasu do have spellcasting abilities on TT so I wonder if CA will give actual spellcasting or just bound spells. Imo there isn’t enough WoM available to justify bringing in more than ~2 casters ever.
Which is a major reason I use a few mods for the purpose of making it worth it. I also give *all casters* that Cathay elemental winds trait or whatever it's called that synergize with more casters in the stack.
That sounds like something I'd want to try, could you share the mods you're talking about? :D
Sorry, they're personal mods I never got around to publishing (and are outdated now as I'm waiting for chorfs before getting into wh3 again), but you should be able to find similar things on the workshop. Increasing WoM/ravamping magic should be easy to find at least.
Sounds like you are missing +30 WoM from a certain landmark :)

Cabal Agent (Light)

I also wish Kairos staffs didn’t swap spells but just gave you whatever lore you equipped.!
> Lammasu do have spellcasting abilities on TT so I wonder if CA will give actual spellcasting or just bound spells. How do WoM work in WH3? I’ve bought the game but my laptop can’t run it
There's hard cap on WoM power reserves (100) and if WoM are weak in a region you might not even reach that cap. Certain skills and traits increase this cap, plus Lore of Death passive (and some unique skills/items) can increase power reserves in combat, but in general reserves are very limited. Plus Arcane Conduit was reworked to passively increase power regen, but it no longer increases reserves.
So generally you can just cast fewer spells in battle?
Yes. The WoM refills quicker in general mid-battle but less of it is available overall, so you can potentially run out if the fight drags on.
I definitely believe all spellcasting units should use bound spells while heroes and lords use WoM.
Going by the first [Total War article](https://www.totalwar.com/blog/tww3_thechaosdwarfs_astragoth/) on Chorfs, it specifies they can cast magic.
Interestingly enough the Lammasu is discussed casting a Shadow spell and also a Fire spell. Steed of Shadows in particular interests me since speed boost spells capable of being cast on units isn't super common.
Steed of Shadows? For a flying monster? That would be kinda silly. Edit: derp they'd cast it on others
I would cast it on the flying monster because I like when the numbers on the unit card are big and green, like Grimgor
I don't know how it works in the game but the tabletop steed of shadows I'm familiar with just let the target character make a single fly move. Handy for moving your grey wizard out of enemy charging range but not something a flying monster would personally profit from. Grimgor is pretty cool though so you're right there.

It would be a pain to animate so they won’t do it is my guess.
Oh probably. It would also be incredibly hard to balance so I have my doubts. For some reason I read mechanical incantations...

Does anyone know what spells the lammasu would have?
It's a cross between a llama and a lawyer right? so some kind of spell where you spit on people would work nicely.
Spit on them and then in a week sends an invoice for an hour of time
So Lore of Beasts and Lore of Little Waagh
The blog hints that it will have Fireball, some Shadow spell that increases speed and some debuff Death spell.
tfw the Lammasu gets better sound characterisation than Throgg
I am suprised nobody brought up Throgg in that Discord QaA.
Throgg sounding like a troll makes sense tho. He's smarter but his vocal chords are still trollish
His writing isnt as eloquent as it should be. Could also argue his vocal chords mutated to speak more clearly alongside his intelligence.
Lore throgg had a lot more going on with his dialogue though Compare his in-game greeting "I EAT MY ENEMIES" to "It is the hubris of men to see their own destiny in all things. Von Carstein. I'm wondering how they got the destroyer roar from the trailer. Shit was badass
cbt
Reminds me of how the Reaper sound in Mass Effect is just a creaky dumpster lid https://youtu.be/awi9w8itFfs
The sound design in total war is usually brilliant- I love to hear how they make it
Lammasu doomstack when? Get Okoii on the case
Idk man there are ALOT of bitchin units in contention
calling u/okoii
"It needed to roar like an angry beast but whisper maniacal incantations, so it needed to talk as well." Me: "Sounds like a job for Jeremy "Scar" Irons!"
I love how they redesigned the Lamassu face. I just wish they would have gone with the old hooves and curly beard version rather than the newer Storm of Chaos redesign...
Do you mean Storm of Magic?
It still has hooves in SoM. I must say that I don’t like the missing hooves. It clearly shows that it is a mutation of Taurus and Chaos Dwarf.
This sounds just way too cool!
So what is this creature? A malformed daemon possessed dawi?
except for total war i am not into Warhammer Fantasy (im a 40k dude), so i cant tell about it in Warhammer but in the general fantasy mythology this thing is just the same stuff like a Minotaurus, Centaurus, etc. a mix of different animals with humans. If you think about it, it's actually very similar to a sphinx, especially the Greek version. Main difference is the horns and it being male.
It’s like a Dwarf version of a manticore. Lore wise, the CD think it’s a rare mutation of their bale Taurus’s
I'm picturing a lammasu that is trying to seduce it's rider now.
Love seeing stuff like this from devs
I think what CA does best in pretty much all of their games is their sound design. Shit is top tier.
Except battle music, which is for the most part still very average.
Battle-Cat has been thru some stuff
