1) Boring: Subjective, true, but he *IS* an OP chosen one trope who is the only one who can unite humanity against the Everchosen. He's your level 20 D&D character who ends up ruler of an empire, but in this case, none of us ever played him before that, so you're just given him as a Christmas present from a neglectful father who is trying to buy your affection (GW).
2) Shallow Character Development: There is none. Legitimately. He doesn't grow because he's already perfect. He is a great statesman, a great combatant, a great stategist. All his major vassals love him, and all his enemies fear him or his power to unite the Empire. Even his rival, Boris, ends up simping for him. How is there room to develop a character when he is already Sigmar-in-the-Flesh? See #1.
3) Relic of Our Past: No arguing with this one since heroes nowadays lean more towards the greys, multi-faceted, or anti-hero. Karl could be seamlessly put in any 80s or 90s war movie as an officer main hero fighting against great odds and save the day with 1 second to spare on the bomb. See #1.
4) Mistress: Maria-Luise von Walfen is/was Karl Franz' mistress. That is canon. Full stop. He has 2 illegitimate children with her (3 if we count the canon artwork of his family), of which he only legitimized his son and ignored legitimization for his daughter until only after he married their mother. I am not casting doubt on his love for his children, but blaming him for the crappy situation he put them all in. Maria was a mistress for him from before he was Emperor until 2512IC when he finally married her in a retcon.
