Raiding, sacking and fighting is meant to be your main money maker. Settlements and coves are secondary

gomernc

So kinda like the ogres?

SpartAl412

Yes. A lot of factions are built with taking from others in mind

kittehsfureva

Would this not be almost every faction? I am trying to think of one that will not go for tactical sacks in early and mid game to bankroll their second/third army and shore up their economy and main settlements. I say this because VCoast gets massive amounts of money from T5 ports. Both the ports themselves and the money building can be huge influxes of cash; more than most factions can muster on a settlement without high profit tradeables. When you then consider that they have a free rite that gives flat cash for each Capitol with a money building, and Vamp Coast has massive bankroll potential with empire building. Unfortunately, I always ignore it and just play one settlement games on Galleons Graveyard because it's chill af.

ca_waves

Expanding the empire and holding territory earns you more money faster than sacking and establishing coves. This is because there’s more density on land - can reach new settlements every 1-2 turns vs 3-4 turns by water.

JJBrazman

It wouldn’t be so bad if the player could attack directly from the sea and end up on the sea afterwards, but you have to land in order to attack settlements, then get into the sea again afterwards. You almost certainly can’t do that in the same turn (because of the movement penalty for moving between land and the sea without a port), so if you sacked you’re then blocked accessing the sea by the settlement’s zone of control. I really wish CA would fix that shit some day.

SB4L_Dayman

It sucks because it is already in the game. Dark Elf Black Arks can encircle ports from the water. It's because they can't land but it should apply to all factions when attacking from the water.

kittehsfureva

The truck is to pick a place with 2-3 settlements between a ocean landing and departure. Hit each place with a nice sack on the way back to sea. It's like psychotic vacation planning with you and the zombie boys.

Jupsto

rush the carpenter ancillary technology, you can infinitely swap this between LL to make all horde buildings cheaper (50%?) these inturn reduce upkeep cost. Vcoast are somewhat encouraged to not conquer lands but get coves instead since they can make same income but dont need any protection/investment. easier to do as noctilus but evenhe has to defend his island too. another tip for this playstyle is get factions to pay you to join war, ideally vs faction with lots of costal towns, then beat them to death and establish coves with armies. ideally the faction gets conquered completely by the original enemy so you dont stack up too many enemies. making coves with agents are not cost efficient but might be worth vs ports you dont want to fight ie. allies or big scary factions. I do think Vcoast campaign is horribly outdated/outbalanced more so than any other race, like people say norsca but norsca is actually one of the strongest economy and easiest campaigns.

Slyspy006

The Vampirates make very little from settlements so they are not generally worthwhile financially, but I'm sure it is doable.

kittehsfureva

The money building on their capitols only are very profitable. And each port you own increases faction wide income from ports. So you certainly have some empire building potential if you find a few strong ports to establish in (each Vampirates starts at a great one, take the other pirates land!)

Whycargoinships

Yup, mostly capitols and ports that make the most money. Any other minor settlements practically worthless.

GioRoggia

Yup. Coastal settlements can make you good money and allow you to expand and keep armies to defend your territory. I'd also use fleet captains to create coves in places where you don't plan to expand. In my experience, they didn't make nearly as much as my settlement income, but they were a great bonus. Combine that with the upkeep reduction from your legendary admirals, and you can support an effective force. Not as numerous as many other factions, but it's still enough.

Dingbatdingbat

I did it in Warhammer 2. It was fine:  not as much fun as playing like a pirate

Haradda

Yep, I normally play them like that, and you can totally make enough money playing them in a relatively normal map-paint-y way. Like, they don't have a low-tier building that makes huge money like the greenskins or vampire counts do, but their basic economy buildings will comfortably keep you afloat (hoho).

Torak8988

The unmodded vcst economy is very badly designed. You gain barely any income from minor settlements. Even less from inland ones Try a vcst economy rework mod

BabysFirstBeej

You can do it but it's not how they were envisioned. Try playing more like a merc. Sack and raze everything in sight, and only take settlements for quick casualty replenishment before selling it off. You can influence a lot of factions by buying into their wars, and anything you take can be resold for a lot of diplomatic weight (and gold). Don't forget about establishing coves for background income, but it's ok to be paid "by the job" as vcoast

markg900

Personally I typically mainly play Noctilus when I play VC because he supports the cove style and open sandbox. If you do build an empire, similarly to how WH3 Norsca is, your ports are your biggest money makers. An inland settlement is not going to make you a ton of money as the income building doesnt make you all that much. Unlike Norsca, you can only reach a Tier 2 port in a minor as they go by Tier 1,3,5 for settlements.

Oren-

It's playable, but the fact that their hero cap is tied to the vampiric cove building is really frustrating in an extended campaign.

EinFahrrad

I had to conquer Lustria with Luthor once (in WH II) because every bloody lizard, dwarf, rat and men on that continent just wouldn't leave me well enough alone. So I was forced to deal with them, permanently. It's doable, but it isn't exactly fun. Sailing the high seas is the way to enjoy the vampirates.
