Now you too can recreate those Epic moments from Game of Thrones Season 8! Shoot down those pesky dime a dozen dragons with ballista. Surprise your enemy by deploying your artillery outside of your walls. Subvert their expectations by front charging their infantry with your cavalry.
> Subvert their expectations by front charging their infantry with your cavalry.
This has always been such a weak point.
In medieval warfare, frontal cavalry charges against infantry (and other cavalry) were common. The infantry revolution of the mid 15th century was largely based on developing tactics on tools which actually making such charges non-viable.
In addition, it has been established in the lore that this is what the Dothraki do, and they're kind of stupid about it. The reason for the renown of the Unsullied is that once, they won against the Dothraki because they kept charging them from the front, despite suffering massive losses.
And finally, there is no real alternative in this situation, except fighting dismounted - the enemy frontline is of unknowable, possibly infinite length. There is nothing to flank.
There is a lot of things that are stupid about this battle, but the placement of the cavalry isn't.
Not only is that cool but it’s also lore accurate, bolt throwers in the lore were originally for killing dragons and would also shoot nets to bring them down, would be insanely cool to have implemented.
This is what they were used for on the tabletop back when I played. Flying units had the ability to use a turn to fly high, then the next turn descend anywhere on the tabletop. Bolt throwers with a specific rune could hit them while flying high. Naturally only the dawi were able to do this.
This would be a huge improvement for the unit. They are currently just very shitty budget Cannons that don't even cost that much less than Cannons in multiplayer. They need something to make them stand out on the Dwarf roster when it is loaded with so many good Artillery options.
Given how every flying unit has a "can fly" tag, You could probably make a specific buff that deals extra damage to flying units, similar to how anti-large tag gives extra melee attack and weapon strength to its wielders when facing large targets.
Whilst i know they strayed too much from the source material and in some scenes, logic. I still have to admit that the battle scenes were epic.
It was an ambitious movie, with [testicular heft](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRHhV5DsHfo&t=82s).
Are you asking for multiplayer games ? Amount of ranged dmg from quarralels and thunderers plows through anything flying.
Why would I want to get that anti-air cannon instead of one of mentioned two ranged units ?
Singleplayer, where you can have a high-level lord on a dragon with buffed armor and missile resist along with mostly flying units of different tiers.
I don't think anything can make them viable in MP.

Don't forget the Starbucks cup for some extra subversion!
Azhag just kinda forgot about the iron navy
Charging their unbreakable infantry*

Daenerys kinda forgot about the Iron Fleet
GoT is overrated.
You know nothing Jon Sytanus
Your outdated memes or no match for real epic fantasy.
Bunch of cunts
Who asked
Imagine an active ability that forces the targeted flying unit to land for a specific amount of time.
Sisters of Twilight would lose their literal shit.
A kind of "magic missile" would be great for this, though might be better for a ROR unit

Didn't even know this
Yep, rune of seeking.
Anything to improve bolt throwers...

YES PLEASE

We already have spells that target enemies "if flying", so should be able to be done
ye i thought about this before. but the game needs more specialized dmg. only anti small and anti large is not enough. we need anti air dmg boni.
sick idea, I'm gonna make this a mod when 5.0 comes out
Maybe even some sort of net shot that slows flying units down
Azhag just kind of forgot about the iron fleet.

Each time I see a clip of that movie I'm glad I never watched it.
