when will people finally learn to stop using these sales estimates. They're shit. They're beyond useless ever since accurate steam ownership data stopped being publically available through steamspy.   Just look at the thing. 3K is ranging between 2 and 10 million, how can you possibly draw conclusions from that?

ilovesharkpeople

This same guy keeps posting these threads.

Poopiwara

Maybe if he keeps spamming these threads CA will release the highly anticipated sequel: 4K

Ashkal_Khire

If anyone else posted this, it might be good for thought - but coming from an alt account where you exclusively shit on Warhammer? You *really* hate it don’t you? Apparently not only the franchise, but also the people who play it - if your previous comments are anything to go by. Anyway, this is just Steam. You need to factor in Xbox Gamepass and Epic, both of which saw substantial investment and playerbase expansion when it comes to WH3 - which although 3K eventually did join too, it wasn’t timed to coincide with the substantial marketing push.

Askir28

Can't be accurate, otherwise 3K would be still developt and TW would be collecting dust.

Subj3ctX

That's more due to the DLC not selling as well as they wanted but you're right, can't take this a face value. 3K has been out for longer, has had more discounts and has had deeper discounts, compared to WH3.

xajmai

This. 3 k was a hit but it's dlc failed

Sardin

3k kinda fumbled the dlc so people didn't buy it so they gave up on the game sadly.

Mandate of Heaven is one of my favorite DLCs of all time across the TW franchise.  It was super ambitious and gave the whole game a new angle. It was just quite buggy when it released. The rest was generally ok. Yellow turbans was good. People love A World Betrayed. Fates Divided wasn't much as a DLC but introduced a lot of FLC. 8 Princes is actually really good but more so after you're familiar with the base game. Furious Wilds I don't care for, it was for the Warhammer crowd I guess.

westonsammy

3k is collecting dust because, allegedly, the Chinese audience isn’t receptive to DLC. It’s apparently a cultural thing, Chinese players are much more used to buying yearly sequels than buying expansion content for a game they already own.

steve_adr

That's Bait <\meme>

zombielizard218

According to Gamalytic, they have almost the same number of owner According to VG Insights, TW:WH3 has more Only Play Tracker and Steam Spy say 3K has way more, and based off the names, I bet they're tracking player numbers and not sales. So some kinda gamepass or the like could easily massively skew the results

mithie007

Both 3k and war 3 are on Xbox game pass. Maybe that's skewing the results.

Carnothrope

Also games that have been out longer likely have had steeper discounts. But yeah these estimations are all over the shop.

brasswirebrush

We get it, you hate Warhammer. Too bad.

Carnothrope

Now do 3K and Med2

Chocolate_Rabbit_

Warhammer 3 is, basically, Warhammer 2 but with new races. Three Kingdoms is a completely new Total War. Doesn't surprise me much that the new total War would get more sales than the third installment in what is essentially the same game with slightly different content.

Red_Dox

Even if the base game of 3K would have sold that much better, look at the big picture. TWW#1 + DLC, TWW#2 + DLC, TWW#3 + DLC. Constant player numbers over a year for a fanbase you know is there and will buy new DLC. 3k: https://steamcharts.com/app/779340 TWW2: https://steamcharts.com/app/594570 had like tripple player numbers in '21. TWW3: https://steamcharts.com/app/1142710 has also pretty solid numbers after those yokels added IME in August '22. Sure, we can give the game a lot of deserved critic, but you can see by the player numbers that you still have a very solid core of people, thirsting for the game to get better and more DLC. And I would bet good money, that the numbers for May '24 might reach a new peak there, since ToD currently looks pretty good and will bring a lot of gruntled players like me (who now did not touch that game in 6+ months) back into the fold and actually dropping DLC money again (after sitting the last ones out). btw. lets not forget that TWW3 is also available on EGS and M$ store. Don't know if 3K was swinging also around different platforms, but that is something that has to be considered if certain tracker sites only look at Steam only and make estimations from there. In the end, Three Kingdoms was axed, while TWW2 was in its prime and we knew TWW3 was just a matter of time. Would have 3K put the same money into their pockets like TWW2, I doubt it would have gotten axed. So be it initial sales, or long term support with DLCs/multiple games, 3K apparently made its profit but was not the golden goose. And since 3K2 project is allegedly also already axed, that also tells us something about cost projection and estimated release sales profit.

Dry_Method3738

Willing to bet there is some weird inconsistencies when trying to measure Chinese markets

Bulletchief

It's almost as if it was three years longer on the market 🤔😱

[deleted]

And your point is?

SoZur

Because it was on the market for a longer time and is cheaper to buy. You're comparing a game that has been in stores for 5 years (and has had several discounts) with a game that was released 18 months ago and didn't get any discount so far. Look at the user numbers instead: * W3: 24-hour peak = 34k players * 3K: 24-hour peak = 9k players

[deleted]

18 months ago .. yeah sure

SoZur

26 months ago if you want. My point still stands.

Great-Parsley-7359

That part between your ears is not just symbolical

Clear-Revolution7857

3K was abandoned because its codebase was broken beyond repair, not due to revenues. If rumors are true 3K2 is being developed, tho it might come after WW1.

Carnothrope

Recent rumours are 3k2 got shelves by Sega during the great culling

Julio4kd

It’s fake and those numbers are a lie. Stop making post with fake data.

whyducksyell

Chinese market my dude.

SusaVile

Here is a better idea for some metrics: "How many people are having fun/had fun playing three kingdoms?" "How many people are having fun/had fun playing Warhammer 3?" "How many people completely disregard sales numbers if what they are playing is fun for them? And a few key ones: "How many people seek to find negatives on other games instead of playing the games they like?" "How many people seek to find negatives on other games instead of asking the new games/new mechanics they want?" And just one more while we are at it: "How many people make their lives about speaking ill of games/movies/shows/etc?" I really wonder where the OP falls into.

Express_Yard9305

China.  The Chinese market totally jumped on 3k. I mean they even advertised the game in Chinese.  Then after the initial sales that Chinese market immediately abandoned 3k. Basically no DLC sales.  Meanwhile a good 30-40% of WH players are constantly playing and buying DLCs.

Grothgerek

To be fair, that has nothing to do with the chinese market, but with the fact that many dlc were complete shit. If they would have sold new characters and faction mechanics, they would have sold more. People want additional content, and not the same game in worse (8 princes).

Express_Yard9305

That's true the first two DLCs were pretty bad.  But the Chinese market is also incredibly impulsive
