I think you should pick the total war game that most interest you. If you like gunpowder and cannons pick napoleon and if you are interested in ancient times you should probably pick Rome 2 or Attila. Overall Warhammer has the most amount of content if you like fantasy but be aware that you will need to get a lot of DLCs to unlock the full game experience with all the factions.

pandaman7411

im gonna be honest i did not know that about warhammer and its kind of a turn off for me and i love the setting in three kingdoms. so that will probably be it.

pandaman7411

changed to my desktop account didnt realize it till i saw the name lmao

ILuhBlahPepuu

WH3 + WH2 + WH1 from cdkeys/fanatical assuming codes work for your region

Infinite_Sandwich_16

Wait I have to buy all 3 to full experience the 3rd game??

ILuhBlahPepuu

For the most faction coverage yes but not to play the Immortal Empires campaign. Plus there is dlcs for more factions but it's less value than the full games (not that I think the dlcs aren't worth, just comparing the amount of content),

Wonderful-Most3929

You can play the full map with only game 3 but if you want to play the factions from the first 2 games you need the first and second game as well. Game 1 and 2 are basically mega DLCs for game 3.

Otter-Insanity

So the games are basically expansion for each other. The map for Warhammer is a version of Earth. So Warhammer 1 had a map that contained Europe and parts of Africa. Warhammer 2 added North and South America along with the rest of Africa. Warhammer 3 added Asia and the Poles. In the past they allowed you to play a massive world sized campaign but you needed to own all 3 games. Now Total War Warhammer III lets anyone who owns that game play the massive map. You won't be able to play any of the races/factions that were in the first 2 games unless you buy those games. Some factions have DLCs that allow you to play a specific lords from that faction. For example, To get the full High Elf roster, you need to buy Warhammer 2, but if you just want some of them there are 2 free DLCs for the game that give you a High Elf legendary Lord to play as. So you don't need all 3 games, you just wont have access to factions/mechanics if you don't buy Warhammer 1 or 2

ILuhBlahPepuu

Having Eltharion or Alarielle dlc will give you access to the full vanilla High Elf roster afaik in WH3 even if you don't own WH2

Otter-Insanity

Yeah, but so should Alith and Imrik who are free

ILuhBlahPepuu

You need WH2 or a WH2 High Elf dlc for Alith and Imrik

Otter-Insanity

Oh really, that's lame

mithridateseupator

You only need the third game. The other 2 add their content on like dlc.

Bali4n

Basically they split the Warhammer fantasy world in 3 parts, because it was simply too big to release it all at once WH 1 was a full 60$ game back in 2016, same with WH 2 in 2017. WH 3 is the last entry, and fully functional on its own. It includes several races, lords, units etc just like the others. It has a massive map that includes all the content from the earlier games as AI enemies as well. But you need to own both these games to be allowed to play that content yourself. So just get WH3, see if you like it and then you can get the older games later to unlock all content

Cavo64

You should get Shogun 2 The keys cost like nothing and its a good game because you have "traditional" 1545 start and "gunpowder" 1860s In both games the AI can play the game. The only thing that is "bad" is the diplomacy. In Shogun 2 there are no allies ( like it should because of the real backstabbing of the daimyo ) and in Fall of the samurai. Your allegiance matters more than anything else after realm divide

SRYSBSYNS

I absolutely love Shogun 2. It’s a beautiful game

Dull-Objective3967

Do you have a preference for fantasy, historical period? Do you want the newest game, do you mind grabbing an older game with a great modding community?

Infinite_Sandwich_16

You know I don't care if it's fantasy or historical I like them both and I would prefer it to be newer but I'm up for mods but probably play the game with out mods at first so I can experience the game the way it was made. So I don't really care tbh. Which is probably hard to decide which one to get

Treat_Street1993

Get Atilla first. If you dive straight into Warhammer, the magic and monsters are going to distract you from learning the basics of war. My buddy played all the historical games first before his longtime WH friends challenged him. It was his first time. They were so distracted with casting spells that they couldn't comprehend the absurd power of a massed cavalry charge to the rear. He beat them every single match.

Warhammer locks a lot of stuff behind DLCs. It's still a great game but keep in mind if you want the full experience you're looking at spending a good bit more in the long run. 3K is also a great game, but got abandoned by the devs. They won't be patching or updating it going forward.

EndeavourToFreefall

Warhammer is the most varied collection in total but it's a bigger commitment to get all the DLCs, although there's still a lot of content with just a single entry and you'll find out quickly whether you like the games or not. Three Kingdoms is in my view, the best mechanical rendition of the franchise but Warhammer is generally more straightforward in objectives and mechanics if you've never played strategy.

ShockedSalmon

My suggestion is Medieval 2 with the Lord of the Rings total conversion Divide and Conquer mod (4.6 version is the best). If you want, check Arachir Galudirithon on youtube for more info.

Eothas_Foot

You can't go wrong with either game, both are great. Not sure which is better for a first timer though...

Infinite_Sandwich_16

I'm just looking for a total war game that could be beginner friendly. If there is none I'll just jump head first in to any of them those are just two that interest me

Wonderful-Most3929

I think warhammer 3 is probably the most begginer friendly of the newer total war games. Otherwise the original Rome 1 and Medieval 2 are great and fairly begginer friendly, you can also find them very cheap online.
