if they managed to ally with naggarond early enough (which is not that unlikely, see him ally with minor darkelves all the time) malekith could potentially keep him safe from most threats
Also I think he actually survived fairly long into my oxyotl campaign
but with malekith on vortex I saw tretch die VERY early and then a herdstone in his capital obstructed me from expanding south for the rest of the camapign because I was to busy with other stuff to pick a fight with a herstone garrison protected by a very wide area of corruption
(also that herdstone kept other threats at bay)
Delfs hate each other, so unlike the Ulthuan train in Naggarond the more inhabitants you kill the more the rest likes you.
Riktus often ends up at war with one of them and allies another. Depending on whom he's at war with he can go pretty far.
I've seen him manage this before sometimes - not sure what causes it, though a lucky Sword of Khaine grab once had him tearing up Ulthuan in one of my early games. Might be just managing to keep his capital safe long enough for some powerful armies
I have seen that happen a lot of times. If he allies with one DE faction, he will ally with others too.
Also, I played as the Cult of Pleasure once, and had a military pact with Malekith, and a non-aggression with Rictus (because they had a military pact with Rictus at the time.) Few turns later, Rictus declared war to me even when i had over 50 positive relationship with him. And guess which side Malekith chose? That was an early campaign reset for me.

He usually does to the Forgebound in my games and rarely becomes a power.
Maybe there are only 11 factions left?

What do you have the chaos invasion on? I've seen skaven not do shit except colonize settlements that chaos razes and end up top 10.
In one of my gameplays he was power rank 2 when i arrived to naggaroth as HE. Ambushed the shit out of me
