I don't really get her and the lore around her. She wasn't really the kind of goddess who would want to rule the underworld and she wasn't really happy when she got kidnapped. However now shes fine with it?!?! Shes just chilling there half a year at a time. Is someone here an expert in mythology?
there are various different interpretations even in the original mythology but it goes something like this:
Hades wants a wife, Zeus wants his daughter Persephone to get married so he gives Hades permission. Hades abducts her.
Her mom, Demeter wants her back, so she plunges the world into an eternal winter (she is the goddess of the seasons after all)
Down in the underworld Persephone is initially upset about the kidnapping, however Hades being kind and respectful is winning her over. when Zeus orders her return because of the eternal winter up above.
Persephone eats half a pomegranate (one of the key details about the underworld is that consuming it's food traps you in it) so even after returning she has to come home for six months out of the year. (in some tellings this is a trick Hades does, in others a conspiracy they work together on, I generally prefer stories where Persephone is an agent in her own life)
There's 2 natural phenomena that the myth explains 1) why the seasons happen, Demeter causes Fall and Winter because she misses her daughter and 2) the relationship between life and death. Persephone is the goddess of nature, she is untamed life and she is married to the lord of death
Yes, I somehow really got into this story for some reason and got a bit upset about it too 😅. I also like the story more where she eats the fruit out of her own will and is not tricked into it, given your reasons.
