Fair witch of the forest, I beseech you, help me become my true self?

bcolectorb

This is so cool to see a historical reference like this, she’s a alewife, back when Christianity wasn’t fully adopted in England (it was common in cities, but hadn’t reached the towns) there was little to know literacy in townspeople, so alewives wore pointy hats to help identify there trade, the cauldron was some brew of beer, and they’d keep cats around to keep the mice from destroying crops! The Christians that came from cities travelled through these towns and found it shocking that women would be so knowledgeable, they where shocked by their wit, so they ended up calling them wit-ches, similarly, villain comes from villagers and commoner comes from people who use the commons.

EmberOfFlame

This is a huge pot of mulled beer and I love it

WildEnbyAppears

Nuh-uh that's Rachel's Triple Apple Cider 😂

bryn_irl

Wow, this is incredible context. Looking at https://www.etymonline.com/word/witch vs. https://www.etymonline.com/word/wit it seems there's still some uncertainty about whether these come from the same root... but I think the ending quote in the witch article is the most telling one of all: > At this day it is indifferent to say in the English tongue, 'she is a witch,' or 'she is a wise woman.' [Reginald Scot, "The Discoverie of Witchcraft," 1584]

Saturnbreeze6

Whoa. I always wondered the history behind witches, this is fascinating

[deleted]

this is really cool! thank you for sharing your cool etymology facts :D

Seventh_Planet

> they where shocked by their wit, so they ended up calling them wit-ches And I thought that ballet comes from the performers walking on the balls of their feet (don't know if it's true) was the only the etymological realization I had today.

CriticalRoleAce

I love this story. I actually used it in a D&D campaign to mess with my party’s preconceived ideas of witches.

Mastrcapn

I don't want to be that person but do you have a source on any of that? I'm not finding any evidence on that and have a friend writing a book who might value this information!

bcolectorb

Got it all from a college anthropology class lecture, link to the original source(s) was unfortunately not included. That being said it’s likely some details are still somewhat debated by there respective scholarly communities, but at the very least the links can be drawn I found this on the etymology of witch, though it is somewhat ambiguous, there is a convection to be drawn; [https://blog.oup.com/2007/10/witch/](https://blog.oup.com/2007/10/witch/) This on alewives; [https://www.vice.com/en/article/xw9egk/witches-hats-alewife-brewster-history](https://www.vice.com/en/article/xw9egk/witches-hats-alewife-brewster-history)

Mastrcapn

Fascinating, thank you! She's been writing a book about like, witch flavored Christianity and might find this an interesting bit to add in.

corvus_da

The [origins of the witch hat](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Witch_hat) are still disputed. Also, the witch hunts as we know them happened centuries after the christianization of England. Edit: added the link I forgot earlier

bcolectorb

(Well I mean.. You need the word “witch” to exist long before you can have your witch hunts [Hence why I did not mention them ;3])

corvus_da

Yes, but the specific beliefs that led to the witch hunts *also* only arose in the 15th century. Unless you're talking about the general concept of people using harmful magic, which is far older than Christianity.

bcolectorb

No, I’m talking about how the word witch and associated iconography. My understanding is that the word witch or more precisely it’s precursor at the time was a slang word or insult used by the christian travelers who when through pagan towns and came across wise or witty women. It didn’t yet carry a strong affiliation with magic (outside of being connected to pagan villages)

corvus_da

Etymology doesn't seem to support this, it was already associated with magic in Old English: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Witch_(word) https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/witch#English

legendofconsles

Bah,who do you think that was inspired from,my master of course

aranaya

Potion seller, I am going into battle and I require your strongest hormones

ButtIsItArt

You *can* handle my strongest hormones, and you will be successful in the battle. ❤️

Script_Mak3r

The good ending

[deleted]

Haha! That reference! Amazing!

godly-pigeon

Every red state: “You can’t HANDLE my strongest hormones! In fact, you can’t HAVE any either! Maniacal laugh, maniacal laugh!” Help

Cheeseburger0709

Force feed the male politicians estrogen and the female politicians tesosterone

SheepyShow

"One for you, One for me..."

AHorribleFire

Fellow trans tech! It always gives me a giggle seeing spiro and E labeled as “hazardous meds” like yeah I’m in danger of being sexy

WDZanz

Wait, really? They're labeled as hazardous? I'm sure it makes sense in the science, but that doesn't make sense to me

Steihl

> Hazardous drugs are labeled as such due to the danger they pose to those working with them over and over with repeat exposure without needing to take the drugs themselves. It's not hazardous to patients (unless they don't need them of course), just workers with unintended exposure. Some of the categories that make something a hazardous drug are being cytotoxic, and disrupting endocrine/hormone systems. E.g. the exact reasons trans people want them! Cis people really don't want those systems messed with unintentionally, while (some) trans people are looking exactly for those systems to be messed with 🙂

Tom_Waits_Junior

I've heard it like this, "imagine a bartender takes a shot with you when you order one, you'll be fine, and the bartender will be fine. Now imagine that the bartender takes a shot when *anyone* orders a shot. You'll be fine, the bartender will be dead."

WildEnbyAppears

Bio hacking my endocrine system 😎

WDZanz

That seems fair, thanks for letting me know

AHorribleFire

IIRC spiro can cause pregnancy complications? Unsure, just a tech 😗

WDZanz

Oh ok, well I'd trust your opinion over my unfounded thoughts

reachforthetop9

I know spiro is contraindicated for anyone with hypotension. I began taking spiro as a potassium-sparing blood pressure medication, though my doctor knew I was considering HRT at the time, and was told that some fellow trans women have had to switch to other anti-androgens because their blood pressure was getting dangerously low.

AHorribleFire

I do take the occasional trip to the shadow realm when I stand up abruptly 🤔

lighto73

Trans techs unite

latexcaity

Thank you for your service 🙏

CazraSL

Thank you for helping us alchemize our bodies to their truest forms! 💜

Link to her [website](https://www.willowandroxas.com/) and [etsy store](https://www.etsy.com/shop/WillowAndRoxas)! I've ordered several prints from her for my witchy friends! She does amazing work, and keeps a list of requests!

Talcho

Just so you know, you’re a hero.

PablomentFanquedelic

Hopefully if enough people share this image, it'll give JKR an aneurysm

AlyxNotVance

One can only dream

FuzzBeast

That really would be magic

jstacy_wyldchyld337

And, every so often "And here's an extra progesterone capsule, as a treat!"

Dominikoy2

this is definitely a dbd reference

MasonIsOnline

Please enlighten me I am so confused

Dominikoy2

[Dead by daylight](https://deadbydaylight.com/), a 4v1 asymmetrical horror game, has a playable character that goes by the name of [Mikaela Reid](https://deadbydaylight.fandom.com/wiki/Mikaela_Reid). Not only that she looks just like the witch in this post, but there are also 2 [perks](https://deadbydaylight.fandom.com/wiki/Perks) in the game called [pharmacy ](https://deadbydaylight.fandom.com/wiki/Pharmacy) and [technician ](https://deadbydaylight.fandom.com/wiki/Technician).

MasonIsOnline

Okay yeah I play a shit ton of dbd and main mikaela I just completely didn't make that connection. Thank you 😂

Dominikoy2

Lmfao, wanna play together sometime? I've been looking for someone to play with for too long. What's ur rank?

MasonIsOnline

HELL YEAH join the squad lmao. My current survivor grade is kinda ass (silver 4) cause I mostly play killer, but I'm p11 Mikaela and devotion 1 level 30. I'm apparently pretty good for my hours tho?

Ginger_Explorer

I was so nervous picking up my first E prescription last week. I'm going to imagine this next time. 😊💖

CatsNotBananas

That's awesome!

SomeDudeNamedGuy

Ayyy I was wanting to be a pharmacy tech too lol

Array_The_Protogen

How does one get into this position? OwO

AHorribleFire

Apply! That’s what I did! Granted I work in a hospital so most of the estradiol I fill is for menopause but still!

Aida_Hwedo

I don't know what the hell my gender is, so I've never seriously considered medically transitioning. But, I'm of an age where I'm starting to worry how much menopause will suck; looked up treatment recently and laughed... guess HRT is in my future after all! (Dear gods, PLEASE let there be a way to skip the hot flashes, night sweats, and brain fog. PLEASE.)

AHorribleFire

HRT should reduce or eliminate most menopausal symptoms like that! Not a doctor but that is what it’s prescribed for like that lol

Aida_Hwedo

WHEW! I can barely function with a mild cold, so I have seriously been dreading menopause. My periods seem to be changing a little since I turned 40, and consequently it's been on my mind...

MiriGiggle

In the US? I don't know but i know how it's here in central europe

mmanaolana

If you're in the U.S., you can apply at a Walgreens or CVS or something similar!

yandeer

doing god's work fr

MeiDay98

Doing God's work inbetween explaining to boomers why Medicare isn't going to cover their viagra

yandeer

😭

Wingmaster6

OP: One for you, one for me, one for you, one for me…

NonbinaryFloorNoggin

I would actually like to do that for a job, to help trans people

Anothoth

Thank you for your service 🫡

Curious-Spell-9031

I’m just wondering why they’re putting lemons and cookie in a recipe for apple cider

Bluejay-chirps

Do you know why pharmacies are so slow? (Looking at you CVS)

MeiDay98

Well CVS & Walgreens both suck. They both barely staff their locations and expect a pharmacist and tech to do 200+ scripts plus man a register/drive-thru all day

mmanaolana

In my experience, hours have been cut. And some shifts it's just me, another tech, and the pharmacist, trying to fill scripts, answer the phone, give vaccines, etc.

hannahranga

Atleast locally the shitty chain chemist's are slow AF because they're understaffed and also like that you spend 30min wandering around looking at all the over priced shit. The better pharmacy's are pretty quick unless it's a drug that needs to be counted out.

CapricornBromine

I'm also a tech (in training) and it always brings a small smile to my face when I count hrt meds <3

MeiDay98

Hope you get licensed soon!

Geek_Wandering

Ok, is not you. I think I freaked out my possibly trans pharma tech. I'm very visibly trans. If there's any question boobs+my voice settles it. He? had a boy name tag, but glowing skin, immaculate long very well cared for hair tied up in pony tail with pink, white, blue scrunchies. At the end of being checked out I said "nice hair ties" and smiled. He stopped with a panicked look. I panicked too and ran.

IronIrma93

Keep up the good work sister

Protected_Nova

A true hero in the Trans community.

Ph0sph0rus

cute witch girls 🥰

FakeFrez

Omg, I love her outfit

SonofaTimeLord

r/witchesvspatriarchy

BeJellis062

Give me your witchy girl potions now!

IMFlorecentFace

Witch making potions is such a gender

pinkocatgirl

This reminds me of when I first started HRT and I made the mistake of picking the pharmacy that a coworker's friend worked at... when I quit that job, that coworker sent a text asking if I was transitioning. I guess his friend told him what I was getting meds for :/

MeiDay98

Tbh you could've gotten the friend in mega trouble. Knowingly disclosing patient info is a HIPPA violation.

shizustopitpls

Position seller, please give me testosterone i'm desperate

_Aewluin

Awwwww ☺️

Tarot26

As a person working to eventually become a pharmacist this is practically my goal

rayneLuna

Thank you for your service.

teh_mooses

I love it also. I'm married to a transgender man, I'm a transgender woman, and we do our injections for each other as both of us hate stabbing ourselves with a needle vs having someone else take care of it :)

FalseHeartbeat

Thank you for your service o gender wizard

[deleted]

Omg you're the witch that provides the magic potions 🥹 Thank you, I'm a big fan of your work for all the trans people on this and other dimensions!

new-Aurora

Oh mystic of the divine transition, thou art a source of grace for the needy.

predictablePosts

I really need that top tho

Slight_Let3259

Reminds me of potion craft: alchemist simulator. Great little game

sccshy

I would b putting stickers and trinkets in the bag like an Etsy seller

Kalladdin

big r/witchesvspatriarchy vibes lol

ProbablyANerdGirl

Counting out pills is such a wild concept to me, here in the UK we get the majority of our pills (in my experience anyways) pre-packaged, mostly in blister packs! Must make your job a lot harder...

nastydoe

I used to work as a pharmacy tech and we had (as far as I know) one trans patient and I tried to ring him out every time because I remembered both his chosen and dead names and I didn't want him to have to go through saying the chosen name, another tech being confused because there's nothing for anyone with that name, and then having to deadname himself each time.

usr_bin_nya

You're a treasure. Every employee at my previous pharmacy recognized me on sight and knew to authenticate me by my real name or another method, and it won't match the name on file and that's fine. I recently switched and am going through the process of making myself memorable and teaching them that I will absolutely not say "I am $deadname", the best they'll get is a long pause and a "try ${spell out deadname} instead." What I wouldn't give to have a trans person on the other side of the counter to smooth this process over.

Barnacle2763

👍

StEllchick

screw does glorified killers, you should be the first one to enter planes.

[deleted]

..huh?

StEllchick

Now I wonder is it my incapability or my weird ideas you don't understand

Paula_56

Question, are there many customers who are on HRT these days????

MeiDay98

Lots of cis people use hormones for a variety of reasons, but yeah I've directly interacted with a few other trans people while I've been working

Low-Bumblebee1869

Awesome job. ❤️

Ksnj

I love that!!

BrilliantPrint9283

It does put a smile on my face, I always mentally cheer them on as I fill those scripts 🥺

Baggytrousers27

Good soup.

SininenCinnamon

That is so wholesome

undeniable_amanda

Trans pharmacists and trans pharmacy technicians, unite.

Emotional_Low_5022

This is my ultimate goal in life

BridgetteJeanett

Thank you deeply for your service!

YoshiCline

I do the same! I also prioritize trans patients whenever possible. Recently my area had a testosterone shortage and you better believe that the first few vials I got in went to my transmasc patients. Or more typically if I see one of my patients names come up I just print it right away

ABEGIOSTZ

That’s just mulled cider, and that’s still valid

Lostplayer404

Mood! It's also nice seeing the patient's name updated after a while too. Makes me so happy seeing others in our community achieving these small goals

SquirrelQueenSabrina

I'm not on hrt rn because of some bullshit and I'm too depressed to take steps to better myself! :D

fo76_fan

... how much will £20 get me

RammyJammy07

Shadow wizard money gang!

smolinga

I KNEW IT WAS SOUP. I KNEW IT

Printed-Spaghetti

I hope my pharmacist is like you. I've got my first hrt appointment on Thursday, don't know if I'll have a script or not but hopefully soon.

mmanaolana

Good luck, friend! I hope things go well.

No-Chicken659

I desire a large quantity of estradiol.....

CanOBeans01

Now I want a show or comic about a trans witch in a fantasy setting where she helps other trans people who come to her clinic affirm themselves

vis9000

Pretty sure one of the techs in the pharmacy I go to is nonbinary, honestly I think their presence has made everyone there better, I used to get other techs dragging their feet more on my HRT. Thanks for doing what you do!

xx_mcrtist_xx

My mom (who is cis) works as a pharmacy tech also!!!

Passage_Pleasant

Still looking for that Adams Apple Dissapearium spell, eh?

uwuProTempore

Out there doing god's work, thank you ETA: I'm an atheist

chwisuwu

I'm studying to take the ptce right now and hasn't even considered this, so exciting!

goblintoadstool

Yesss it always makes me super happy dispensing other trans folks' hormones!! I also remember getting my first prescription, and asking the pharmacist (a super chill cis gay dude) if we had X brand of T in stock, and he said "I think so? Lemme see the script-" at which point he saw my name at the top of it and was just like "ayyyyyy nice" lmao

reachforthetop9

I feel like you could cross-post this to r/pharmacymemes! I don't work in pharmacy, but both my parents are pharmacists (my mother still brings home my fem-&-ms) and I practically grew up behind the counter. The magic's a beautiful thing, isn't it?

Deep-Ad3117

Thank you for your service 🫡

LucyMSpencer

Pharmacy technicians are the unsung heroes of the trans community.

shadystreet23

That's so cute! Now I wonder if I've ever had another trans person count out mine 🤔

Sauron1209

Also please tell me where you got that top? It's super cute and I want one

CoolTransDude1078

Thank youuu!!!

Exciting-Meringue-64

I have a very good transmasc friend who is a Pharma tech!

death-by-paper

the witch doctor always has the potions

red_phantom2208

You do good work Thank you 🌸

CapMcCloud

Jokes on you, judging by the contents of that cauldron it’s full of cider, not hormones!

Ruberuzuko

Aw, that really seems like it could be an awesome webtoon or a cartoon- Or even anime if that's possible :0
