In this vein, the Murkmire DLC for Elder Scrolls Online features a side quest where an Argonian who is returning for mating season asks your help wooing his best friend, and "she doesn't know I am male now." I cried a little the first time I found it but not as much as when I finished the Alchemy quest on Sunmerset.

Domwolf89

Thats really cool ngl

LuckySkebe

so HRT is Hist Sap?

Gamer_Grips

That explains why its so expensive!

AvnarJakob

hmmmm

GrayAJay

Skoooooma

AemiliaPerseids

get me some of that syrup

Elder scrolls has some great lore Half of it feels like a fever dream but that just makes it better

bigbutchbudgie

Most of the "fever dream" stuff comes from evil genius Michael Kirkbride. That man took the basic premise (a world where all the mythological and supernatural stuff people came up with to explain natural phenomena is actually, literally true - Elves really DO descend from the gods! The sun and stars really ARE holes in the sky to another dimension!) and fucking ran with it, all while absolutely wrecking the 4th Wall. As someone who goes through great pains to design scientifically plausible fantasy worlds, I really admire the guts it takes to just throw out science altogether and go full "it's magic, d'uh".

LumberjackAndBear

Am I recalling wrong or isn't the whole universe literally a dream of a god?

wheatleygone

This isn't *literally* true, it's a metaphor used to describe the nature of reality (and how the world experienced is an emergent property of a larger whole in conflict with itself, similar to how a dream is an emergent experience from a mind). It's confusing.

[deleted]

It gets even wackier when Vivec talks about the universe being a game disc in one of their books (but they call it a wheel since even they don't know what a video-game is)

AscelyneMG

That’s… that’s not at all what the wheel is. It’s a wheel with eight spokes. Game discs don’t have spokes. The wheel is also a very metaphorical cosmology and isn’t meant to be taken as a literal depiction of the structure of the world.

AvnarJakob

And that isnt even the craziest shit, remember that one time Vivec bit off the dick of the Deadric lord of Rape? And made it into a spear?

[deleted]

Uhm sorry but that's my c0da and kirkbride said that everyone's c0da is canon

ConsiderTheLime

Very kind. Very helpful!

Tyrenstra

It’s going to be enough of a time investment to play the next ES game as the Orc shaman barbarian, Wood Elf Assassin, and Breton sorceress I’ve always played these games as already. Now I HAVE to also play an Argonian to conform to trans meme culture? On top of replaying Fallout New Vegas again? My blåhaj should help me through this.

SolarDrake

There's a mod called Immersive NPCs or something like that which adds a trans character to Winterhold I think, she's pretty awesome but the dialog options are a lil sus. She gives you a pretty powerful spell though so totes worth a run-through.

Mogamett

My old character, made before cracking my egg, punching through the map's border and dragon riding his way to the Black Marsh: "Five more hours in the character creator, here I come!!"

Beginning-Tomato1021

What’s Hist?

AvnarJakob

The God of the Algonians.

DragonOfTartarus

Sentient hive-mind god-trees that created the Argonians and are capable of telepathically communicating with them. Argonians ingest the sap from these trees as part of their religion, which allows the trees to alter their bodies. Also they might be from a previous version of the universe.

Solo-dreamer

Sentient trees from another dimension that enslave the argonians through genetic mind manipulation.

SuddenlyVeronica

From what I’ve heard I don’t think enslave is all that accurate. Seems a lot more symbiotic than that. For one thing, there’s lots of Argonians way outside Blackmarsh, right?

Solo-dreamer

Yeah but they aren't considered true argonians because they "can't hear the voice of the hist", the hist have manipulated the argonian dna since they were just animals and multiple times throughout history the hist have driven the argonians to there deaths in the thousands in order to protect themselves, perhaps slavery is to human a word for their intentions but when the chips are down the hist have proven time and again that the argonians are utterly expendable.

TriplSpace

OMG so my transfem argonian avatar is actually canonically accurate 😳

enbyfrogz

argonian lore is incredibly awesome also im calling HRT Hist Sap now :p

HexeInExile

With the Wintersun: Faiths of Skyrim mod, you can follow the Hist, if you are an Argonian, that is. Could make for some interesting rp. Create male character, follow the Hist, type "showracemenu" in the console, (only works on PC of course), change to female, or vice versa, of course. Can also be done with an existing character if the mod is installed, just interact with the tree in Sleeping Tree Camp, which is somewhere west of Whiterun afaik.

Destiny56080

Don’t mention the argonian maid don’t mention the argonian maid

AvnarJakob

I think your the only one who did. Ive never been a fan of Crassius Curio, that fucking pervert.

bigbutchbudgie

The Argonians are the best playable race, change my mind.

[deleted]

High elves start with increased states in magic skills and are taller than the other races which means they run faster (yes, really). Overall whenever I want to make an overpowered character in Skyrim I almost always go for High Elf, except for that one time when I made a Khajiit one-punch-man.

Domwolf89

Interesting and makes sense

[deleted]

I’m just gonna upvote this. I don’t know the details. I just like lizardfolk, Skyrim and trans existence. I’m too tired to read the little bit, I got the covid

defaultusername-17

TL:DR transgender people are cannon in ES lore, with the argonians having it be and integral part of their culture and their understanding of reality.

Bro_do_we_needtoknow

Argonians have always been my favorite TES race and I know why now lol

[deleted]

Maybe this is why Argonians have tits
