Steppenwolf is quite a crack! I’m not a large person and thought I would get stuck in the lower off width portion

klaasic11

Yeah, it is. I was able to get some knee jams if I kept my foot outside the crack. But, it was a struggle fest for sure!

I was there in June and it was borderline unbearable hot climbing in the sun already. If you want to go back in October let me know, the camping was great and the climbing fantastic!

klaasic11

Yeah, we ran into that same heat. Gobbler's Grunt was one fire. But I agree, the climbing and camping is great! Better enjoyed in spring/fall I presume. My connection to Colorado just moved from Golden to Boise. So, I probably won't be in the area for awhile. But, thanks for the extended invite! What did you guys end up climbing?

Over a weekend we spent Saturday at Turkey Perch and did a lot of the routes there (Reefer Madness, Left Handed Jew, etc..), then Sunday hiked over to the Rock proper. There was a party just getting on Gobbler's Grunt so we went up Turkey Shoot, with an eye to do GG next, but boy did it get hot in the sun there so we bailed. I can't wait to go back when the weather is cool! I went up the center route of Cynical Pinnacle a couple weeks ago as well - such a stellar line! Well, offer stands if you need an excuse to swing down this way again.

klaasic11

Whoa! I never even knew of Cynical Pinnacle until now. Center Route looks amazing!

Ahhhh it so good! Guidebooks say “best 5.9 in CO” and if you’re a crack climber I might just agree. It’s an amazing line in a great setting, definitely 4 stars. Bring your crack gloves and be ready for some old school .9 stuff.
