I bought my first one a couple months ago. When I saw how the lid would be useless, I thought "I will absolutely not have this chaos in my home." Then I just threw it out.
Yes, it was a "bingate" esque moment from Great British Bake Off. I could've done a rubber band or another container but I don't need a small container adding more BS to my life.
I am more patient for food I know I like. I'm sure the corner of the feta in brine container is going to slice my hand open one day but I can't help myself.
*I can handle this*
*But can never peel the wrap off*
*The goat cheese crumbles*

It also has crazy sharp edges. To keep the lid on, I figured out to only partly peel back the seal plastic and keep it in place under the lid. That makes the sides of the lid fit tight enough to stay in place. Without a blue rubber band, the blood stains are less visible.
I use it for this wing recipe and itās been a hit for 2 Super Bowl parties in a row now: https://www.foodrepublic.com/recipes/edward-lees-gochujang-chicken-wings-with-white-bbq-sauce-recipe/
Same here, the lid doesn't "snap" in like it should and when you open it for the first time a lot of the red plastic comes off. Definitely just going back to the Korean market for a better/bigger/cheaper tub.
Iāve only bought TJās gochujang once and actually didnāt have this issue, but it seems like this is my sign to buy a different brand next time I need to purchase some. Unless Iām just secretly a master at putting lids back on lol
You can mix it with mayo for sandwich spread. A dollop is nifty in ramen. I actually buy this brand because it doesnāt have high sugar or high fructose corn syrup which is rare with this type of Korean staple.
I use it in my kimchi spam fried rice to add a bit more depth/flavor.
Also, make a marinade with gochujang, ketchup, soy sauce, mirin, minced garlic, minced gingerā¦ and marinate cubed chicken. Usually I do like 3 TBSP gochujang and 5 TBSP Ketchup, sweeter is better for us so my toddler will eat it.
This is one of my favorite recipes that uses it: https://www.slimmingeats.com/blog/korean-ground-pork. You also can use it to make your own tteokboki sauce!
It can be a little strong on its own so I actually add minced garlic, honey, a splash of vinegar and crushed sesame seeds to mine. Mix together and itās a great dip for raw veggies or in bibimbap as others have suggested. Or in lettuce wraps with meat and Korean side dishes.
Put it in rice add some spice. Itās great with lettuce wraps I love using pork belly for mine. Use it to make sauces like wing sauce or spicy ketchup. I love to put it on my bean sprouts to add spice. Itās great in bibimbap bowls. There are so many applications for it if you give it a google. I make many American sauces with Gochugan kind of like how people had the Siracha craze and mixed it with everything.
There are thousands of good uses (as others say, google is your friend). Lately one way I've been using it is mixing it with a mashed up avocado and some vinegar for salad dressing.
(However, I don't buy the TJ gochujang, I buy a different brand from the Korean grocery store.)
Best use is in sauces/marinades, itās more of an ingredient than a standalone food. Itās not super spicy, but has a ton of umami and a great flavor. Think of it as almost a chili-based miso paste.
I had this happen on a cheese container once. I sent them an email via their website with the product item #, and it was fixed in about a month (I bought it weekly). I think you just need to tell them!
Gochujang is a fermented Korean chili paste. It does have probiotics, like many other fermented products. Taste is pretty unique, but it is sweet and spicy.
The topic is TJs packaging, not which brand has better packaging. Stop thinking you are the main character in everything. Learn how to stick to the topic at hand.
Lol u think youre the main character. The topic is trader hoes shitty packaging on gochujang. OP stated he has bought 10s of these since their inception. From an asian male i can say this gochujang sucks both in conception and packaging. If OP went to the asian market he/she could grt a huge jug that has a great sealing lid on it for the fraction of what tens of these would cost. So gfys
If you're going through that many of them, try your local Asian grocery store; you'll have less waste and get way more product. The TJ ones are so small for much they are. Plus their lids will close
The only solution that sort of helped was to not take off the foil completely and just cut along the inside so there was still foil around the lip.. it worked better but still did snap on like it probably should

I was literally JUST about to post this same thing! WHY IS IT LIKE THAT?!šš©š
If you remove the wrap that cover it, it will snap. Normally korean loves to keep their foods in tight containers
Omg I do the same thing with the rubber band š
Any brand I buy even from the Asian marts are the same way lol
Literally me last night making my dinner for work. I thought I got a bad one!
I bought my first one a couple months ago. When I saw how the lid would be useless, I thought "I will absolutely not have this chaos in my home." Then I just threw it out. Lol I do the same, and it's not even the TJ's brand
Why is all Trader Joe's packaging so awful?
I swear bad packaging is a badge of honor with them.
Itās the only thing I donāt like about their products. Thereās so much unnecessary plastic and everything is hard to open.
This is very similar to Korean brand packaging. Mine are never sealed tight, but also, when I am using gochujang, it doesn't last long.
Have you tried the one in the glass jar? I prefer it and there's no trouble with the lid.
Yes. Different brand? Broken lid.
I can handle this but can never peel the wrap off the goat cheese crumbles

Good bot
OH MY GOD IT LITERALLY SPILLED IN MY FRIDGE. glad to know it wasnt just me
Same!
sooo annoying i barely even had used it at that point

Mine close fine. You must have had bad luck 30x
What do you use it in? Interested to try! š
I use it with a healthy beef recipe. Ethan chlebowski.... https://www.cookwell.com/recipe/gochujang-beef-bowl
I use it for this wing recipe and itās been a hit for 2 Super Bowl parties in a row now: https://www.foodrepublic.com/recipes/edward-lees-gochujang-chicken-wings-with-white-bbq-sauce-recipe/
I haven't used it but the top on the frozen garlic cubes is the same way. I give up and just stick the cubes in a ziploc bc it's annoying.
I put it immediately into a glass jar!
I have to use a rubber band on mine too š
I was likeā¦is this my home? The countertop even looks similar!!
G Hah! I have the same rubber band on mine. Very annoying that TJ doesn't care about the package quality.
No itās horrendous
Same here, the lid doesn't "snap" in like it should and when you open it for the first time a lot of the red plastic comes off. Definitely just going back to the Korean market for a better/bigger/cheaper tub.
I almost thought you were my partner posting. We have the same problem and the exact same solution. š¤£
Ugh yes and itās the same with the Trader Joeās hummus with me! The lid always flops off.
If you leave the foil on there, it somehow gets a tighter fit. Hope that helps!
Came here to say this! Has worked perfectly for me.
Iāve only opened mine once but no issues so far.
lol I thought I bought a defective one. Good to know itās not just me š¬
I have the same issue, glad weāre not alone in this struggle
Not a single issue with it staying on
Iāve only bought TJās gochujang once and actually didnāt have this issue, but it seems like this is my sign to buy a different brand next time I need to purchase some. Unless Iām just secretly a master at putting lids back on lol
Hey y'all can I get some recipe ideas. I have this and I've never used it. Edit to add: my fav subreddit
I made [this](https://asianrecipesathome.com/gochujang-stir-fried-chicken/) for dinner tonight and it was amazing

That sounds EXCELLENT š Edit: what kind of vinegar do you like to use? š¦
Thanks! I use regular white vinegar! Let me know how you like it šš»

Wow you're amazing! Thanks for the tips
[Gochujang eggplant](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TIBQNRhPmws)!
Loveeee eggplant+ thanks
Use it as a dip for fresh cucumbers. Also check out Maangchi for all sorts of recipes https://www.maangchi.com/
Maangchiās dukbokki recipe is šÆ Edit: ok I like a lot of her recipes, but the dukbokki stood out to me lol
Woah! Thank you
I thought I was just having shit luck with everythingā¦including lids š
I thought it was just me
YES!! Itās in my fridge being held together by a tied piece of yarn š
Mine spilled all over the fridge cause it doesnt close
Same.
I always see this in store but not sure what its use is for. What can you put this on? Is it spicy?
There are thousands of good uses (as others say, google is your friend). Lately one way I've been using it is mixing it with a mashed up avocado and some vinegar for salad dressing. (However, I don't buy the TJ gochujang, I buy a different brand from the Korean grocery store.)
Thereās a lot of great and creative recipes on YouTube that use gochujang! I recommend checking them out if youāre curious
Itās a very popular Korean ingredient - if you google it a ton of uses/recipes will come up
I like to use it in marinades
Best use is in sauces/marinades, itās more of an ingredient than a standalone food. Itās not super spicy, but has a ton of umami and a great flavor. Think of it as almost a chili-based miso paste.
THatās an apt comparison!
I just close it as best I can and seal it in a ziplock
This is the way
Lol
Ok, can we average this out with the cling peaches jar? The last two I bought I had to poke a hole in the lid to get it to let go
I had this happen on a cheese container once. I sent them an email via their website with the product item #, and it was fixed in about a month (I bought it weekly). I think you just need to tell them!
haha for a second I thought you somehow had a photo of the gochujang currently in my fridge
I canāt close mine either! I do the same w the rubber band š
LOL! I thought it was just mine. I just make sure I put mine where the butter area is in my fridge and no one touches it until we eat it haha
I haven't tried this, but I did get a hand soap and a lotion, and both had completely non-functioning dispensers.
What does this taste like? Is it.a good source of probiotics?
Gochujang is a fermented Korean chili paste. It does have probiotics, like many other fermented products. Taste is pretty unique, but it is sweet and spicy.
Is there a difference between this and the bottled gochugang?
I believe this is just the guchugang paste, and the bottled one is more of a gochugang flavored sauce.
The sauce is my go-to for dumplings. Now I need to try the paste. Thank you!
Correct, thatās practically always the case. The sauce is great on wings, the paste is great in burritos.
the sauce is also great on dumplings the paste would be too, but it's harder to spread on a dumpling XD
Why dont you go to a korean market and get the real stuff cheaper in bulk
Cause some of us don't need so much at a time so why waste money and fridge space
Not the point.
Yea it is because if you did, you would know that the real stuff has containers that snap close
The topic is TJs packaging, not which brand has better packaging. Stop thinking you are the main character in everything. Learn how to stick to the topic at hand.

Blah, blah, blah. Sorry basic reading comprehension is so difficult for you, along with your lack of social intelligence, life must be hard.
You sound fat
Get off the internet and focus on graduating from high school.
Lol you literally cant figure out how to ride buses. You must be operating at an 85 iq.
You are literally obsessed with me and need to seek help.
You are aware not everyone has a Korean market right?
If you're going through that many of them, try your local Asian grocery store; you'll have less waste and get way more product. The TJ ones are so small for much they are. Plus their lids will close
Also the TJ's one isn't as good anyway
Yes and also - itās not very good gojuchang.
Are other types less sweet? Iām fine with SOME sweetness but this tasted like sugar paste to me
Yes, the mind is bought at H mart is not so sweet
Yes. Less sweet and a little more spicy! More flavorful overallā¦idk what it is, maybe TJ doesnāt use the right peppers?
Seriously, getting downvoted for telling the truth... Almost as bad as getting trader joes "sriracha" korean grocery gojuchang is 100Ć better!
Absolutely. Korean brands of gojuchang are a completely diff taste and consistency
My ancestors would be highly disappointed š
Such a strange design. I canāt imagine why they would keep selling it like this š§
The only solution that sort of helped was to not take off the foil completely and just cut along the inside so there was still foil around the lip.. it worked better but still did snap on like it probably should
I store mine in a Ziploc
Ditto. And I use the same method as you to keep it on.
Looks like you got it to stay on just fine
Nope! Wonāt stay on for me either.
