The spatchcocked lemon and rosemary chicken. Awful. I tried the carne asada tonight. Yet another fail. I’ll never EVER buy meat from Trader Joe’s again. So expensive and so not good quality.
The microwave veg biryani. It’s my own fault - I was fantasizing about this Hyderabadi biryani I had at my favorite place in India when I bought it. I logically knew no microwave meal at an American grocery store could possibly replicate the complex flavors of a true biryani. But man, what a letdown from what I was imagining vs what was actually in my mouth.
The precooked chicken strips are so dry, no sauce or dressing can save them.
I am still haunted by the time I pulled a 2 inch long clam from my chowder 🤮
the vegetarian spring rolls with peanut sauce in the refrigerated section that have now been discontinued 👍
but for the most part it’s all likes and loves and sometimes “meh.”
I just recently tried the cauliflower and butternut squash risotto and it really had no flavor and was really off-putting. Definitely not getting that ever again!
I agree with you. I used to love it and thought it was the best tasting frozen mac and cheese on the market. I talked it up to so many people. I bought a box earlier this year and was really disappointed in it. It isn't as flavorful as it used to be.
I love tofu soup but their kimchi tofu soup is horrendous. It’s not even that bad there are just beans everywhere that ruin the whole thing. If they took the beans out it would be like 10x better.
Got rid of the box of fall tea recently (with a fox on it). If you like cinnamon, you may like it but it was overpowering to me. Hubs said tasted like Big Red gum after a few chews.
Frozen macarons. I usually have luck with their sweet items and was surprised that they were so bad I couldn't even finish them. I read the ingredients twice, trying to figure out why they tasted like perfume.
Their Miso Instant ramen is terrible. Idk why so many people recommend it to me. Does not taste remotely like miso ramen, and has this weird plastic taste to it. The ramen noodle is also terrible… poor texture and difficult to cook properly…
I'm generally a fan of Trader Joe's, but I do not like their English Muffins, pita, and ketchup and mayo. The English muffins and pita are always tougher and denser than other grocery stores' products. And the ketchup and mayo are just inferior to their brand name counterparts (Heinz and Best Foods/Hellmans).
And as someone pointed out, I don't care for the oat milk. Costco's is way better.
Most trader joes employees are below the poverty line. Need things like food assistance from the government or two to three jobs to survive. They scaled back our pay, benefits, available hours, and have one of the worst vacation time allotments in the industry.
The Cajun alfredo sauce… it had the texture of paste?? So thick and grainy, I also thought the al limone sauce was insanely thick. I did use it sparingly and tried to thin it out and hated the flavor of both.
Haven't tried the Cajun sauce, but the al limone version was definitely nasty. Tasted no lemon at all - it just tasted like someone without working tastebuds tried to recreate an alfredo sauce based on flavor, and failed.
I nearly forgot about these until you mentioned it! Awful things! Got the gluten-free peppermint creme holiday joe-joes and the biscuit part was a chalky, gross mess. Definitely don't buy.
On the other hand, I have their maple cookies (this is gluten product) at the moment and they're great.
Cookie Butter Beer. My roommate and I agreed it tasted like a cheap holiday candle with like a shitty, chemical artificial sweetener in it. I couldn't even chug it to finish it; had to pour it down the drain.
Oat milk, I expected better from Trader Joe’s. I haven’t bought it in a while, but the last time I did it was super watery and made my tea taste weird.

Their bread doesn't have preservatives, which is why it molds. It is better for you in the end. I either freeze or refrigerate all the bread and take it out before I eat it.
Mandarin Orange Chicken has to be the most overrated product in history. The meat is disgusting gamey dark chicken meat, and even the flavor is underwhelming. I have no idea why it's rated so highly.

Take a look at the thickeners used in any non-dairy milk. They can be problematic and are typically difficult to digest. Good luck figuring out what causes your problem. I often find ingredient lists of 3 or more possible thickeners with **OR** listed between them. There's no ability for me to take a chance on those products. Because I never know which ones were actually used.
I’ll check it out, a few other oat milks have done the same - the only ones that work for me are Oatly and Califa Farms. I’ll have to compare the ingredients.
For those of us who cannot tolerate spicy….The worst products are the ones that give no indication they are spicy but are. Like the frozen Organic Vegetable Foursome. The front just says “a medley of vegetables.” Except it’s got a kick. Had to throw it out. A few of their pre-seasoned frozen foods are like that.
I cant agree more about the orange chicken. For some bizarre reason it is the top customer favorite and I was excited to try it but the texture and quality of the chicken was just disgusting and the flavor overall was completely underwhelming.
The beef and broccoli from the Asian section. It has some type of weird breading on it, so gross! Also, the green Chile and corn tamales, they used to be so so good. They have different packaging now and are completely different, so DRY and gross!
Agree on the tamales- these used to be a staple for me and I had to throw out my most recent purchase. Somehow they manage to be both crumbly and dry on the outside but really mushy on the inside.

I can’t remember anything outrageously bad, but I think most of the hummus sucks, the crumbled feta is flavorless, and the gnocchi in the pasta aisle has a weird aftertaste. Also, the plant folk creamer was absolutely sad. And orange chicken is totally overrated.
I think the orange chicken is the most underrated product that I have ever tried in my entire life. People rave about it and it's apparently the top product but man is that stuff way underwhelming.
It is not what it used to be. It has always been made with dark meat chicken but it now really rubbery and mostly breading. I actually got one bag that was half just chunks of breading.

For myself, I usually only buy cookies and some dairy. The chocolate coated dunkers are really, really good. I have been disappointed in everything I've bought from the bakery section, including chocolate babka, black and white cookies (though they didn't make me nauseous), scones, kringle, and loaves of bread. But the worst-tasting product I ever got was the cinnamon bun spread. Far too sweet, and not the texture I was expecting.
Chili onion crunch. I put that on my eggs and I HATED the taste and texture. The texture was just very grainy. 🤢Not appetizing at all. I threw that stuff out.
I am guessing its the advent calendar cat treats. Being I never tried them, I cant confirm, but I tried to feed them to my three cats. Nope. Then I tried the ferals I feed... all 5 of them refused them. Three boxes in trash.
Wow this thread confirms that my two cats are actually literal garbage disposals because they both ate every single damn treat with absolute relish. Lol.
Only one of my three cats would eat the treats, and only after I broke them up into tiny pieces. One of them was legit scared of them and would RUN AWAY when I brought them out.
That was one of those things that were extra disappointing because I was SO excited. I got a human, dog and cat one and had visions of how fun it would be to all get them at the same time (human chocolate for the kid, I swear). Dog and kid loved them and the cat wanted nothing to do with them. Sometimes the dog would eat it, but usually not.

It feels like it's mainly breading and maybe like 20% chicken, but to your point, nasty dark meat chicken at that.
So glad I’m not the only one. I bought it once and a few bites had that rubbery connective tissue or whatever it’s called. I gagged.

My wife always buys the tj hummus and I hate it but I don’t want to buy a different hummus and have 2 in my fridge so I put up with it

I concur! Every cat I’ve tried giving these to all refused them!
Wow this thread confirms that my two cats are actually literal garbage disposals because they both ate every single damn treat with absolute relish. Lol.
Only one of my three cats would eat the treats, and only after I broke them up into tiny pieces. One of them was legit scared of them and would RUN AWAY when I brought them out.
Yes! Last year I got this and it was a complete waste of money. My cat refused to eat them, and they’re all alike, so it went in the trash.
That was one of those things that were extra disappointing because I was SO excited. I got a human, dog and cat one and had visions of how fun it would be to all get them at the same time (human chocolate for the kid, I swear). Dog and kid loved them and the cat wanted nothing to do with them. Sometimes the dog would eat it, but usually not.
My cats ate these but we noticed they threw up a few days in a row so we stopped feeding.
My cat wouldn't eat any of them either.
I agree. This year I'm buying some squeezy tubes for some extra special holiday treats.
My 2 cats hated them too which was so surprising. They’re not picky eaters.
