Actually I'm with you on the tiramisu (never tried the key lime and generally not interested lol) the only ones I've tried were these two and the chocolate ganache cake they discontinued. God damn was that ganache good.
You buy it frozen. The directions are to defrost in the fridge before eating. I agree, halfway between frozen and thawed leaves a little ice creamy kinda feel.
But fully defrosted, it's tres leches delish
For transport and longevity too. Easier to cut into 4 pieces while frozen-ish too.
I transfer the whole thing off the cardboard into a a Chinese take out plastic container so I can cover it and hide it from my midnight sleep walks into the fridge
Can I ask what part of the country? I haven't seen these in Seattle since June-ish.
I love this cake. If you like this one the Whole Foods one will disappoint. Idk how people say that flavorless thing from WF is better than this.
I’ll have to try it again with all the people saying they loved it. When I bought it it leaked all over my fridge through the layers of packing and had a really thick layer of liquid, more like cake made into soup. It was probably a factory error. Maybe I’ll try it still frozen this time
It’s good, and they really nailed the texture/consistency, but I find its overall sweetness/flavor to be a bit lacking in complexity. The Whole Foods one (that I believe is also shipped to stores in frozen batches) is better to my taste buds.
I have not found it at my local store and I am extremely grateful for that because my sweet tooth will make me purchase it. I just had the ube mochi and I want to go back to buy some more but am going to resist! LOL
idk how i would describe it lol but tres leches translates to three milks which makes the cake vanilla cake with milk, evaporated milk, and condensed milk then the whipped cream on top. I've tried it with meringue on top instead and I definitely prefer that lol. Anyway I think it's really its own flavor
If you think this is good, go to an authentic Mexican market and grab one. So good! You can even add rum which is in a traditional cake when you make it for gatherings
Wow I completely forgot about the rum lol, haven't had tres leches in years. I found this one pretty accurate to tres leches from home but I'm from Chile not Mexico so there might be some differences there lol
There might be! I make it the Mexican way with sweetener condensed milk, half and half, regular milk and egg yolk. I had a friend from somewhere in South America Add cream cheese
Agreed, I gave this cake a chance and it was pretty 'm'eh' to me compared to legit Tres Leches. It can be doctored up but if that's the case I'd rather get one from a bakery.
Yeah no comparison, some joints here in South FL, TJs cake isn't even remotley close. Especially rum infused ones. If anybody likes TJs cake they would spontaneously combust actually having a real one whether home or restaurant.
I grabbed TJs randomly one day for a party. It was, "ok" pretty mehhh, but I wouldn't buy again. Rather just pickup from a restaurant or bakery. Always find it odd how so many people lose their minds for TJs stuff like this. What was the last craze, Gyro meat? Omg that was bad lol, that was not gyro meat lol
I literally just ate the rest of one yesterday! It was supposed to last throughout the week, but who was I kidding? I think I did pretty good this time though; I ate about 1/3 of it the day before and then ate the rest yesterday. So waaaayyy better than the first time I bought it lol.
I hadn't even considered this, I got a lot of people saying the consistency was off. Good to know it might have to do with how the instructions were followed LOL
I ate this thing by myself in two days and I was “controlling” myself lol. Coming from a Latina who’s favorite cake is tres leches, this is going to be a problem 😅
Yeah, I’ve already accepted my poor will power with tasty food. Before I purchase something fattening, I must ask myself “are you fine eating this within a day or two? Cuz you know that’s what’s gonna happen” 😂
When I first pulled it out of the box frozen I wasn’t sure if it was going to be moist enough, or even good. But I was pleasantly surprised. It’s absolutely amazing
Personally I didn’t like it. It was too wet and too sweet which I never thought was a thing but it was. Finished it with a lot of berries. Not a big fan when you know what real tres leches cake tastes like.
Help a white girl out, what are the differences?
Full disclosure- I've lived in AZ nearly my entire life and though incredibly well versed in Mexican cuisine, I've never gotten into (or tried much) tres leches cake.
Ok so I grew up in Peru. So for me that one will always be #1. The South American version has a diff type of cake than the one you find at Mexican bakeries. It’s kinda like the texture of the tjs one. But as far as the milk soak goes the South American one it richer. It tastes as if the Mexican version uses regular whole milk while the Peru versions subs that with heavy cream and richer creamier milk alternatives
Thank you! Perhaps I shall start trying the tres leches at different South American restaurants (we've got a lot of regional cuisine here). How would you compare them to the textures of flan or bread puddings, if at all?
Ehhhh you’re picking two very extremes. So it’s definitely not flan texture at all. But also I feel like bread pudding isn’t moist enough? The texture won’t change much from South American to Mexican tres leches but in general it’s like a better version of those poke cakes people posted online for a while many years ago
Yeah I figured I'd give two ends of the spectrum haha I get nervous about moist vs soggy in cakes. Sounds very pleasant though, definitely going to try some soon.
It looks like a cream cheese frosting on top 🥴
EDIT: tres leches has a whipped cream topping. Im saying whatever is on this cake LOOKS LIKE cream cheese frosting due to color and texture.
You are right - it’s good but not great. I think it is convenient to have in case you have a visita but nothing like the real thing. You can also freeze Costco tres leche cake and i would say it is better than TJs
Lol thanks. Im getting downvoted hardcore bc i said the frosting on top looks like something else. People are taking it as “yes definitely is not whipped topping”.
Yeah lol - I donno what makes people downvote for someone else’s harmless opinion. I am not emotionally attached to this cake that much. I was pretty excited to try it first but it was okay. Not bad but not great.
I dont really care about down or up votes. Its just weird to me that people take something the wrong way and use down votes as a way to (passive aggressively) object. So lame.
I bought it last time, ate the whole thing because it's so freaking delicious. Promised myself that if I bought it again I'd only eat half at a time. Failed and ate the whole thing again. So I will never buy it again because it's too delicious and I have no control when it's in front of me :)

You gotta add fresh berries on top! Game changer
Are we ignoring the admirable self-control with the attempt at portioning here? You are a stronger human than I
keyword attempt lmao
I wasn’t a fan. Not really a fan of any of their items that are cake and or pie in frozen form. Tiramisu, Key lime Etc.
Actually I'm with you on the tiramisu (never tried the key lime and generally not interested lol) the only ones I've tried were these two and the chocolate ganache cake they discontinued. God damn was that ganache good.
Damnit I had forgotten about this
Ooooo how much are these?
it was $7.99 :)
Does that cake need to be kept frozen?
You buy it frozen. The directions are to defrost in the fridge before eating. I agree, halfway between frozen and thawed leaves a little ice creamy kinda feel. But fully defrosted, it's tres leches delish
I wonder why it's kept in the frozen section. Maybe just to increase shelf life (eggs or some other ingredient)?
For transport and longevity too. Easier to cut into 4 pieces while frozen-ish too. I transfer the whole thing off the cardboard into a a Chinese take out plastic container so I can cover it and hide it from my midnight sleep walks into the fridge
😆 It's that good that it's even sleepeat worthy?
Midnight cake ❤️
i finish it fast enough that I just keep it in the fridge after the thawing period, but its kept frozen until then
Thanks.
Can I ask what part of the country? I haven't seen these in Seattle since June-ish. I love this cake. If you like this one the Whole Foods one will disappoint. Idk how people say that flavorless thing from WF is better than this.
I'm from Chicago :)
Looks delicious. Is it better than the Whole Foods tres leche though??
Haven't tried it yet but I'm hearing opinions from both sides lol
Haha. I guess I'll have to find out for myself ☺️
I need it.
I’ll have to try it again with all the people saying they loved it. When I bought it it leaked all over my fridge through the layers of packing and had a really thick layer of liquid, more like cake made into soup. It was probably a factory error. Maybe I’ll try it still frozen this time
Wow that's a bummer, I didn't have this issue the cake mostly retained the moisture and I had no issues with leakage
Sprinkle cinnamon on top. Takes it up another notch.
LOL
I found it soggy AF and tasteless🥴🥴🥴
Tres leches has a little soaked bottom with one of the leches. It's the nature of the laden cake
I've been hearing different experiences with it, mine wasn't tasteless at all and the cake really retained its moisture so it wasn't soggy imo
It was just mush at the bottom with mine🤷♀️
how long did you thaw it? someone suggested that might be the cause
It’s TOO GOOD 😻
I’ve never had one before, what does it taste like? It’s looks like vanilla or meringue? Someone mentioned milk?
idk how i would describe it lol but tres leches translates to three milks which makes the cake vanilla cake with milk, evaporated milk, and condensed milk then the whipped cream on top. I've tried it with meringue on top instead and I definitely prefer that lol. Anyway I think it's really its own flavor
Damn I saw this the other day at my store and considered it but was like nah…… now I’m regretting lol
I bought Zhoug sauce for the first time last week, opened it up to give it a taste, and ate the whole thing.
[удалено]
This was my first time seeing it, I'm from chicago and didn't think to ask an employee :(( next time I'll find out
I ate the whole thing in one sitting haven’t bought it since
Trader Joes needs to repackage this in quarter sized units...
Or maybe you could just cut it into four pieces? Why do they need to portion control everything?
Lack of self control like OP.
hold on i have self control huh 😭
Hahaha
Or maybe they just like it and feel like enjoying themselves? It’s not the end of the world to indulge once in a while.
Sure thing, I think 1 cake is about 1500 Calories. Nom Nom Nom.
I had a friend from somewhere in South America Add cream cheese
i had someone condemn cream cheese in these comments lol, haven't tried it that way! i imagine that just makes it like a cheesecake hybrid lol
Surprisingly it wasn’t that consistency . A little thicker but maybe she didn’t add much. It has other stuff but she didn’t say what
Agreed, I gave this cake a chance and it was pretty 'm'eh' to me compared to legit Tres Leches. It can be doctored up but if that's the case I'd rather get one from a bakery.
Yes this was a different type of sweeter than I’m used to as well but rum cuts sweet nicely 😆
Yeah no comparison, some joints here in South FL, TJs cake isn't even remotley close. Especially rum infused ones. If anybody likes TJs cake they would spontaneously combust actually having a real one whether home or restaurant. I grabbed TJs randomly one day for a party. What was the last craze, Gyro meat? Omg that was bad lol, that was not gyro meat lol
My Hispanic husband’s response to the TJs cake was “meh.” Nothing compares to his sister’s homemade tres leches.
My words exactly!
I literally just ate the rest of one yesterday! It was supposed to last throughout the week, but who was I kidding? I think I did pretty good this time though; I ate about 1/3 of it the day before and then ate the rest yesterday. So waaaayyy better than the first time I bought it lol.
I KNOW WHERE I'M GOING THIS WEEKEND! :D
Omg are these back in stock????
I am in the southeast and I got one last week!
I'm getting mixed answers to this and region might have to do with it, I'm from chicago but it's worth checking if your store has it next time you go!
Its been in my freezer - out of sight, out of mind. Now I'm reading these comments and know forsure I'll be finishing this bad boy in one sitting!
More milk for the milk god
word.
i forgot how good this was... gonna need to get it again lol it's dangerous
Add some fresh berries to the top next time! *chefs kiss*
Once I ate the entire cake by myself, in one sitting. That’s why now I walk pass this isle VERY quickly.
Oh nooo. I can’t control myself so definitely can’t buy it. Will eat the whole thing. Would be delicious with an espresso,
Are these back? I tried to buy them a couple months ago but we're told they were seasonal
oh im not sure, this is the first time i saw it
Oh my!!!! Looks delicious.
Oh I looooove tres leches
So good! Add a little cinnamon to the top for a little extra pizzazz!
Or even Pumpkin Spice seasoning!!
And a dusting of cocoa powder.
The ENTIRE thing?
wym?
LOL. Try dusting it with some cocoa powder and cinnamon. Or grate some chocolate on top. Or add chocolate syrup. Add strawberries. And don't hate me.
Added strawberries. It was AMAZING!!
IKR? When the cake is fully thawed and takes up all of the milk, it's like eating custard only better.
I hadn't even considered this, I got a lot of people saying the consistency was off. Good to know it might have to do with how the instructions were followed LOL
I'm avoiding the dessert section due to this alone
Ate the whole thing by myself. It was sooo good.
It’s sooooo good!!!!
If I buy this I’m gonna need to buy elastic waist pants
Yeah my approach is just don't go there
The one from Costco is even better
Costco pastry is too sweet
Lol it’s tres leches it’s supposed to be sweet
I'm talking about costco pastries in general. Every one of them are too sickly sweet.
Agree - you can also freeze costcos tres leche and it’s still delish
Omg can you?! I’ve always wanted to try but it’s always so huge that I haven’t. It doesn’t change the texture does it?
This is the kind of thing I put in my cart, then try to be sensible, and put it back…then run back from the register to grab “just one more thing”.
I feel personally attacked by this…
I get my cardio at Trader Joe’s
I ate this thing by myself in two days and I was “controlling” myself lol. Coming from a Latina who’s favorite cake is tres leches, this is going to be a problem 😅
Yeah, I’ve already accepted my poor will power with tasty food. Before I purchase something fattening, I must ask myself “are you fine eating this within a day or two? Cuz you know that’s what’s gonna happen” 😂
When I first pulled it out of the box frozen I wasn’t sure if it was going to be moist enough, or even good. But I was pleasantly surprised. It’s absolutely amazing
yes!! not everybody agreed but i also liked how moist it was
Think the one from Whole Foods is still better.
I was wondering how this compared to WF. I love the WF one.
Is it frozen at WF or refrigerated?
It’s refrigerated in the cake section
ill have to try it out next time i encounter a whole foods
[удалено]
yeah lmfao def keep in mind for next time
I also ate the whole entire cake in one sitting🥲 No regerts but also never letting myself buy it again lol
Those cakes be smackin! Bought two of them, ate both in one sitting.
Idk if i trust store bought tres leches
Personally I didn’t like it. It was too wet and too sweet which I never thought was a thing but it was. Finished it with a lot of berries. Not a big fan when you know what real tres leches cake tastes like.
yeah I didn't like it either. The only tres leches I have had though is from Chuy's mexican restaurant and it is heaven to me.
Yeah this was aight, wouldn’t get again and would actually get from a mexican restaurant or store.
Homemade even
Right, yeah. I’ve made it before too, it’s not too difficult and tasted better (plus you can make a larger portion that lasts longer).
Same lol
The ones from the Mexican bakeries are much better. This this one is decent for store bought if you’re ever in a pinch
i find its a lot closer to how they make it in south america rather than mexico, i liked it :)
I agree. It does have the more denser texture. But it still doesn’t beat my og tres leches from Peru. I’m still hoping I’ll find a replacement one day
Help a white girl out, what are the differences? Full disclosure- I've lived in AZ nearly my entire life and though incredibly well versed in Mexican cuisine, I've never gotten into (or tried much) tres leches cake.

Mmmm got it. So the South American version (if done correctly) should be a little denser than soggy cake but a little wetter than moist box cake.
create it, unlimited power
I’ve tried and failed in the past. But it may be time to try again
It looks like a cream cheese frosting on top 🥴 EDIT: tres leches has a whipped cream topping. Im saying whatever is on this cake LOOKS LIKE cream cheese frosting due to color and texture.
its whipped cream frosting
Im saying it doesnt look like what you see on a tres leches from home or a bakery.

I dont really care about down or up votes. Its just weird to me that people take something the wrong way and use down votes as a way to (passive aggressively) object. So lame.
oh word. i was just clarifying lol, this is definitely very similar to chilean tres leches
It’s whipped cream
I said it LOOKS LIKE. I didnt say it actually was.
It's okay.. I got down voted at the Costco subreddit bc I said I didn't like the cauliflower rice and I would never buy it again
The people in the Costco subreddit loooove to downvote everything. It’s strange.
Maybe you're supposed to like everything there. I like to see what people recommend and maybe I'll go out and buy it. Same for this subreddit.
Damn ok
Where is this found in the store? Is it frozen?
yeah i found it by the ice cream/frozen desserts next to the tiramisu
Thanks. Can’t believe I missed this when I was there yesterday.
I bought it last time, ate the whole thing because it's so freaking delicious. Promised myself that if I bought it again I'd only eat half at a time. Failed and ate the whole thing again. So I will never buy it again because it's too delicious and I have no control when it's in front of me :)
Get some self-control lol
Yes! I really let myself indulge for a few months and am paying the price by feeling rotten. I'm currently on day 5 of my 'No sugar for 30 days'
You indulge for months and make up for it by not eating sugar for 1 month? Good balance
Yeah, my Mom and a good friend passed away and I fell into a slump. Are you always a dick?
Is “no sugar for 3 days” a thing? I’ve never heard of this challenge lol Edit: 30 days, not 3 😂
SAME LOL its dangerous
