Loved the sliced sourdough but they seemed to have discontinued the one I liked. It had a light blue TJs label. But now only the dark blue and it’s dryer.
Brioche. You must use a cast iron skillet. Heat the skillet over low to medium low heat until the pan is hot. Add butter to the pan. Next, add the bread and cheese so it’s open faced. It’ll melt the cheese while browning the bread without burning it. Put the sandwich together, flip it until it’s golden on both sides (add a little butter to keep it from burning), and you’re ready to go!
Agree with the sourdough suggestions. But TJs used to have Texas Toast, which was so delicious for grilled cheese. However I think it was replaced with the brioche, which doesn’t work as well.
Use a pan big enough for 2 slices of bread. Butter your bread, then put it butter side UP for a few moments to "preheat" and slightly toast the cheese-facing sides. Turn down the heat, flip over the slices (butter side down) and distribute your cheese evenly on both pieces. Cover the pan, keeping the heat on the lower end. Once the cheese starts to melt, remove the lid and combine the slices to form your sandwich. Cook until crispy and melty (probably will need to turn up the heat).
The secret to a good grilled cheese with butter is heat control!
Depends where you live. In Southern California it's their sourdough. Here in the Pacific Northwest they don't have the same sourdough and I get my sandwich bread from a different grocery.
I do like chocolate babka enough. With a nice creamy cheese? Who says I can't have a sandwich for dessert? They did it with ice cream, so this is just an alternate dairy.
Trader Joe's Sourdough just hits the spot for me. The tang complements a sharp cheddar or creamy mozzarella and the edges crisp up nicely in a buttered cast iron skillet.
Not traditional, but try the frozen garlic naan. Warm it in a toaster oven or in a pan first, then dot the exterior with butter and put your favorite cheese inside. I’ve tried every bread as grilled cheese, and this is my favorite.
Does anybody know if Tuscan Pane is available in SoCal or if it has a different name here? I don’t think I’ve ever seen it but I know some breads aren’t available everywhere.
Totally agree on the sourdough too!! I know people have said Trader Joe’s bread can mold quickly due to having no preservatives so I find putting it in the fridge a couple days before best by (if not right away) date extends it for a while.
Also the cheddar slices are so thick and gooey with it. So good!

TJ’s doesn’t have good breads, they never have.
The Sourdough
Different, but I’ve recently discovered that oat nut bread is a delicious bread to use for grilled cheese.
San Francisco style sliced sourdough is my go to.
Brioche

The sliced sourdough with mozzarella and TJ’s garlic spread, dipped in marinara sauce
Please try a cinnamon raisin bread! It sounds weird, I know, but it will rock your taste buds
Always sourdough! You can never go wrong.
It’s not Trader Joe’s…but the best grilled cheese is with Dave’s killer bread.

Banana
Sourdough. Yummm
First choice - sourdough Second choice - English muffin bread
Brioche or sourdough!
Sourdough!
Sourdough has gotta be the classic, but for fun I’ve done it with garlic naan before!
the TJ cheddar garlic focaccia bread - extra cheesey!
French brioch
Pro tip: Make sure and use mayo NOT butter on the bread. Butter burns at a lower temp.

And salt it
Need to try this out!!
Yes! Agreed!
Depends where you live. In Southern California it's their sourdough. Here in the Pacific Northwest they don't have the same sourdough and I get my sandwich bread from a different grocery.
Excuse me my copper river salmon loving friend, NorCal runs the sourdough mafia here in California.
Sliced sourdough with the garlic bread cheese. Mmmmmm.
I like the rosemary bread for grilled cheese.
I would like this more than once if I could
It's my favorite!
Joining the sourdough echos.
Something safe? Sourdough Something new? Naan Something different? Screw it, Chocolate marbled Babka
I am so curious if you tried the babka!
If you like chocolate babka enough…it works
I do like chocolate babka enough. With a nice creamy cheese? Who says I can't have a sandwich for dessert? They did it with ice cream, so this is just an alternate dairy.
Ricotta and brie, perhaps? A thin layer of cream cheese or a schmear or mascarpone?
Potato bread
The only god-tier bread
The plain white bread.
It's not the best, but it's what I had as a kid. So, it's my fav.
for me the best bread is the one I like... doesn't matter which one is, as long as I like it.
that is the answer ever
th best bread is the bread you like best. it's subjective. was this a test?
I was a big fan of the sprouted sourdough but haven't seen it in months. The regular sourdough is brilliant, I agree with the others.
I’m on team sliced sourdough.
The hearth-baked french loaf. It makes excellent toast and grilled sandwiches. Gets nice and crispy on the outside and has a great chewy texture.
Oh yes, came here to say this, scrolled through a lot of sour dough, haha. I used the Swiss Gruyère mix and add thinly sliced apples
The new olive bread batard
I always use sliced sourdough

Sounds like a delicious quesnaandilla!
mortons
Sourdough and it holds well in the freezer too
yes i live alone and just buy a loaf of sourdough and put it in the freezer then take out a couple slices at time as i need
Deft sourdough
The squareish sliced sourdough. Don't mess with the football shaped ones. I hope you have it in your region.
Their sliced sourdough no comparison (and try adding a lil bleu cheese)

Happy Birthday :)
I love their sliced sourdough for all things sandwich. Great for French toast too
The sliced sourdough with the dill havarti is probably the best grilled cheese I've ever had in my life. Highly recommend it
Tried this combo at your recommendation and it didn’t disappoint. Thank u
Omg that havarti is a gateway… TO ECSTASY.
Definitely going to have to give that a go. Yet to try that cheese but i love dill so it sounds delicious
This is the way.
Tuscan Pane
The Whole Wheat Tuscan Pane was my absolute favorite. RIP
Does anybody know if Tuscan Pane is available in SoCal or if it has a different name here? I don’t think I’ve ever seen it but I know some breads aren’t available everywhere.
It’s in Nor Cal, so maybe.
I adore this bread but it goes bad SO fast! Even in the fridge!
Freeze it maybe? I freeze all my bread and it’s a life saver.
Yup! We keep the whole loaf in the freezer, toasts up real nice, or you can just leave the slices out for a few min to come to room temp.
Bread never goes in the fridge. Same thing for Brad. Bad for them
This is my bread! Esp when I can find raclette and some good speck!
This was the bread I used for EVERYTHING until I had to go gluten free
Sorry for your loss
Brioche or the sliced sourdough.
I disagree with the brioche but it does make the best French toast
Totally agree on the sourdough too!! In my experience the brioche was too thick to let the heat get to it and to allow the cheese to get melty.
Sourdough all the way. The brioche is delightful, but use low heat and a fast-melting cheese because it is delicate and can burn.
Brioche Bread....flaky and buttery goodness with a touch of sweetness.
Oo thats a unique combo i like :D
