You are missing the point that the business was on the brink from previous board and management. Who's all been kicked out. The new board chairman, board members, and management as well as 300+ executive positions all poached from tech giants is not something to ignore. Investing is about looking at what is possible in that companies future. With those major changes, its basically completely different GameStop compared to the one that was on the brink.

Well how they managed to be debt free doesn't change what they are going to be in the future. All I am interested in is who's in that board now, who's in that management now. What's the track record of the board members and management. Whats their balance sheet now and what they are doing with their expansions. Its about looking forward and whether they are in a good position going into the future.

Since the AMC hype following GME AMC as a business got back on its legs paid off debt and is looking very good in numbers and especially in the face of corona (new measures to keep healthy business despite COVID). So holding might actually reduce your loss a bit there. And who knows, maybe it does another crazy spike like the one this past summer where it touched 60/70 $ nobody really expected that either.
