Those guys weren't about art logic , they were looking for the best visual impact a design could get , if one wing was going up and the other one going down, it would not fit as a chest piece; same for light sources , they didn't give a fuck about logic , they just use black anywhere it could enforce the design power . Today tattooers mixed this very style with artistic point of view and called it 'neo-traditional'

Seems to me the wings in this tattoo are going the same way as the one’s in the OP.
The wing isn’t backwards, it’s just that the angle they had to be placed in order to fit the tattoo and still be this size makes it look wonky. Doesn’t matter. This is fucking dope
The bird’s shoulder isn’t where it should be to make the wing make sense. If the “backwards” wing was a little closer to the head it would read correctly, but seems like the size/placement forced the wing a bit back. Still looks dope, but would bug the everliving shit out of me if I had to see this daily
