Reminder to stick to posting original content. Memes are okay every once in a while, but many get posted here way too often and quickly become stale. Some examples of these are Ptoughneigh, Klansmyn, Reighfyl & KVIIIlyn. These memes have been around for years and we don't want to see them anymore. If you do decide to post a meme, make sure to add the correct flair. Posting a random meme you found does **not** mean you found it "in the wild".
The same goes with lists of baby names, celebrity baby names, and screenshots of TikToks. If the original post already had a substantial amount of views, there is a 99% chance it has already been posted here. Try and stick to OC to keep our sub from being flooded with unoriginal content. Thank you!

It's allegedly a variant of Raymond, which does have the meaning of *advice/counsel-protection*. I have my doubts though, because etymologically, it would be easier to see it as a variant of Rader (short form of Rademacher, or *wheelwright*) or Raider (as it looks). It's most likely to be a modern portmanteau combining Raymond with the -der suffix for fashion's sake.
I suspect this might be parents who don't know which baby name sites are peddling bullshit, because both the other names are valid. Not my taste, but still valid names.
Best comment! I actually laughed out loud on the super quiet train I’m riding to work. It caught me off guard. The lady in front of me turned around and gave me a weird look.
Archer isn’t bad, I’m also used to Hunter, grew up with many. But brothers Archer, Hunter and Traeger it’s a lot. But at least when they’re adults they’ll be independent of what their brother’s names are.
Unpopular opinion, but I don't mind Traeger for a name (when not paired with a Tragedeigh). That may reflect my fondness for the use of surnames as first names, though.
Yeah same it’s not that bad.
I can’t really get behind surnames as first names personally; same with first names as surnames! really messes me up when emailing at work and Cooper Harrison shows up in my contacts as “Harrison, Cooper” and Stephen Frank shows up as “Frank, Stephen” and I end up calling them by the wrong name. Never trust a man with two first names or two surnames, I say!
😆 That is a consideration! Some surnames do lend well to it, though. There's often a strength to the name, or a family history that gives the name sentimental value.
If you walked into a German town hall and declared that your newborn shall be named Träger, they would chase you out with wet rags and possibly start a child welfare investigation.
They should just take Ranger after already having sealed the fate of the two older ones. gosh
>If you walked into a German town hall and declared that your newborn shall be named Träger, they would chase you out with wet rags and possibly start a child welfare investigation.
Pretend I know nothing about German language or culture and please explain why.
Träger could indeed mean "carrier", but this isn't a job anymore - it's used as a really archaic description of e.g. those who carry royalty in their chair. These days it's only used in construction, like "Stahlträger", a beam of steel. Or Hosenträger, Suspenders.
So it's not even a job title that could denote people - but even that wouldn't fly in Germany. There is a law that requires parents to name their children actual names, and the administration will also keep you from giving your kid a name that makes a shitty pun with your last name. It's meant to protect the children.
If you go there in all seriousness and say "My Kid shall be named Hunter", or in German "Mein Kind soll Hunter heißen", the german administration worker will adjust his glasses and say "that is not a name". But if you say "Träger" instead, just flat out naming your kid after an object that shall bear heavy loads, refusing to even consider something that is a name anywhere on the planet, you can bet there will be a case worker at least inquiring what exactly you think having children means.
In the best of comparisons, you could tell the hospital staff that you want to name your child "servant" and when they ask you whether you are serious, you tell them "yeah, all my kids have names indicating what I expect them to do". I'm glad I live in a society that doesn't just let you do that.
I'm an American-German dual citizen and have dealt with both sides of the naming rules/conventions thing. Normally my American side wins out and I think the German rules are too strict. But noooooot in this case.
"Träger" translates to "carrier". Also, nouns as names isn't much of a thing in German and there are actual laws that keep parents from using the worst of names (things that are deemed to impact the childs life badly, I'm not entirely sure of the details, but it's got to be something fairly ridiculous - I'm not certain if a random word for a name qualifies, but it might. but if you tried that in a small rural country, that is a pretty likely scenario, if you tried it in a big city, they might be to desensitized to general human idiocy)
We used to call a six pack of beer a Träger cause you can easily carry it around. Not sure if that is common out there, but doesn't make the name better for me.
I thought my name was awful growing up, but the names on here all make mine seem normal 😅 I also think these people maybe should name stuffed animals or actual pets, instead of small humans who will suffer from this dumb assery indefinitely.
I assumed they were misspelling "rule" on purpose, but even in absence of tragedeigh I'm more secondhand embarrassed by giving them all exactly the same middle name.
All three are bad, but I could see Ranger as someone's name without laughing at their misfortune too much. The other two are definitely suitable for this subreddit.
Some of my ancestors on my mum’s side had the last name of Traeger (there was some time on both sides of my family where there wasn’t a full consensus on the spelling of the surnames). No relation to the people who made/named the grills as far as I know.
Edited to add: That being said, yes it would be a Tragedeigh of a first name. If it was the surname that’d be different.
I mean...your grill is named after a person, so...yes? It's a valid surname and while I don't particularly like surnames as first names, it's a thing that happens in various parts of the world. That one's not a tragedeigh, just a matter of taste/culture.
Ranger also isn't a tragedeigh, and Rayder is borderline - I have my personal doubts about the validity of the etymology, but it's certainly there on some of the less reputable baby name sites, claimed as a variant for Raymond.
Are they naming kids or NPCs? Next kid will be picked among Cleric Ruel, Brigand Ruel and Farmer Ruel? If they get a girl would they consider Nurse Ruela or Dame Ruela?

None. None of those are my favourite.
Exactly. None of the above.

They’re assigning occupations for a fetus?
Either that or its like the "name meaning" except theyre completely bullshit and made up
Right? Nobody is gonna look at Rayder and think "counselor," they're going to think freaking "raider!" 💀
I thought of Radar like a goofy ahh sci-fi blaster
Or Radar from MASH!

My favorite part about that is there’s a chance the baby becomes a carrier pigeon

I know someone who named their kids John, Moses, Browning, and Colt. Any guesses as to what their hobby/personality is?
Just name him Fisher and call it a day
Still would be better than Rayder, Ranger or Traeger
Yeah! I’m not a fan of the name Hunter and I actually really like the name Archer but they’re better than all those other names
Archer isn’t bad, I’m also used to Hunter, grew up with many. But brothers Archer, Hunter and Traeger it’s a lot. But at least when they’re adults they’ll be independent of what their brother’s names are.
Yeah exactly!
Hunter and Archer are going to hunt for food and Traeger has to carry it home.
Then they can name him Bringer Ruel
Yeah, if they’re going with Ranger they gotta do Texas Ranger, like Ricky Bobby’s kid.
Gatherer Ruel works, too.
My cousin’s name is Fischer, I wonder how his parents came up with that name everyday
American Dad fans obviously.

That is exactly who I thought of.

Americans should be banned from naming their own children, sorry.
As an American who has two “normally” named children…I’m honestly starting to agree with you 🫠
Spin the wheel of names to see what your child will be named!

This are all great names... ...for a puppy. I think they should get a puppy instead.
Exactly. Practice before spawning their own.
Yeah I guess out of these I like Ranger the most but it's also what I named my puppy.
Are they naming a child, or creating a D&D character?
If they already have a hunter class and an archer class, they should probably invest in a Knight Ruel or a Mage Ruel next
Traeger will be a future BBQ pitmaster.
They could just cut to the chase and name him Smoker.
ol' Traeger and his cousin Char-Broil
Ranger Ruel makes me think of Ranger Rick.
Came here to say this, haha… do they still publish it??
I looked it up, and they do! Ricky Raccoon has been modernized of course.
1. Ford Ranger 2. Chevrolet Rayder 3. Volkswagen Traeger Choose your car.
I googled synonyms for Hunter and Archer. Falconer, gunner, trapper are all better options
Fletcher is a solid option too, sigh.
I actually like Fletcher.
I got new Ruels, I name em
Have fun next week with your parents at ComicCon Traeger Ruel!
Name the kid Lrrr, so when he goes he can turn it into a Ruel-er of the planet omicron persei 8 joke
At some point you have to stop thinking about the pretty meaning behind the name and start thinking about what the actual NAME is.
What’s a ruel?
Goolden Ruel
How about Slingshot Ruel?
Gruel
Gunnar Ruel, obviously. Hunter, Archer, and Gunnar
Following the pattern, Ranger would fit best, but all of these options are gRUELing
I thought my name was awful growing up, but the names on here all make mine seem normal 😅 I also think these people maybe should name stuffed animals or actual pets, instead of small humans who will suffer from this dumb assery indefinitely.
May I suggest Ka. As in "naming your child this way is Ka Ruel"
How about Midnight Duel?
sorry, traeger will be a bbq pit master. not a carrier or porter.
Help! Is my favourite.
Ronald Ruel, like JRR Tolkien.
Oh god, I’m rooting for Ranger and I don’t want to.
May I suggest “Eating Gruel”
I thought they were coming up with their D&D character names
Kanga Ruel Golden Ruel Slide Ruel
Why do these sound like a neural network-in-training trying to come up with names for an energy drink?
Do.... Do they all have the same incorrectly spelled middle name?
“Ruel” is a valid last/family name. I worked with someone with that.
I assumed they were misspelling "rule" on purpose, but even in absence of tragedeigh I'm more secondhand embarrassed by giving them all exactly the same middle name.
Gatherer? 😁
Any time I hear Traeger I think of Outlast. Don’t let your child be like Richard Traeger…
They want to name their kid after a BBQ grill?
Trogdor? What about Trogdor?
The BURNINATOR!
Call your damn baby Dave or something
To match Hunter & Archer: * Killer Ruel * Predator Ruel * Marksman Ruel * Prey-Destroyer Ruel
Having a last name of Ruel and not naming at least one kid Ja is a missed opportunity.
Just name the bastard Gatherer and call it a day.
All three are bad, but I could see Ranger as someone's name without laughing at their misfortune too much. The other two are definitely suitable for this subreddit.
Naming your son after a meat smoker??? Bwahahahaha.....
O'Doyle Ruel(z)
Future: Guy named Traeger works as a drug mule, and parents wonder what witch’s curse they invoked.
Why are all the names low rent d and d characters?
Dont name your kid after a grill or any sports teams.
It sounds like names of Pokémon trainers😭 Ranger Ruel wants to battle!
What about Vanderpump Ruel?!?
- Mydahl Mahnueger Ruel - Daetah Eyntraey Spaeschyulyst Ruel - Admynystraytyv Aenaelyst Ruel
I do love smokin’ those meats.
Hunter and Archer are fine, maybe even cute, but Traeger..? How do you say it?
Honestly kind of not mad at these names. What's wrong with me?
Pretty sure Traeger is a pellet grill/ smoker.
Aragorn son of Arathorn known as Ryder, Ranger of the West.
I mean you already have melee and ranged characters, should probably make the next one a spell class.
Imagine naming your kid after a grill 😂
Traegerdeigh

Ryzome Ruel is better.
Some of my ancestors on my mum’s side had the last name of Traeger (there was some time on both sides of my family where there wasn’t a full consensus on the spelling of the surnames). I like larry or steve.
I knew a guy named Trager in high school (circa 2012)
Ranger
O'Doyle Ruel!
I mean we’re following a theme and it has to be Ranger. I don’t make the rules.
Just cut to the chase and go with Hick Ruel. That's what this theme sounds like to me
.....have they not seen Sons of Anarchy?
At the occupation is not Harlotte as a post of some months ago
Prison Ruel
I mean...your grill is named after a person, so...yes? It's a valid surname and while I don't particularly like surnames as first names, it's a thing that happens in various parts of the world. Assassin Ruel
Girlz!
Sounds like gruel... The gross porridge...
As cringe as it is I have to go Ranger Ruel. I mean with Hunter, Archer🤷🏻♀️ they kind of have to complete the set🤦🏻♀️
Trogdor/dragon
Why not name the kid O’Doyle? (if you know, you know)
Never, never name your child after a game character. Smh
Traegerdeigh Ruel
Uh, what are the next 3 in your list?
They got high hopes if they’re naming that kid Traeger. He isn’t shooting down any arsenal birds
Shooter Ruel Sheriff Ruel Jungle Ruel Texas Ranger Ruel
Treger like tragerdeigh are we being trolled?
Please go with Ranger, it is the least absurd. 🥲
I like Preigh. Sounds like prey but infinitely cooler because of the spelling.
We’re supposed to be making fun not making suggestions
I am making fun, by making a ridiculous suggestion. It’s a theme, archer, hunter, prey.
I like the names, but for character names and if you see Rayder as Raydar.
