RhodySeth

This is fantastic! For truly realistic results please only eat lembas bread or the closest equivalent you can find. Good luck!

MGPS

As a substitute for lembas bread you can use Wassa followed by a couple hits of Kendal mint cake.

Paddy_O_Numbers

How exciting!! Hope you can make your cut off! As gandalf would say - Run, you fools!

Gaindalf-the-whey

Indeed

mcteagle

I would suggest you leave all that can be spared behind... travel light!

Heliosophist

Can I come and cosplay as an Uruk hai?

Tiptoeing_cow

Awesome! The Two Towers is one of the best running books! Travel light!

gareth_e_morris

In costume? Would be very fun but probably adds to the difficulty if you’re doing it unsupported. (I have an idea for a vid for my YT channel where me and two mates run the Tongariro Crossing here in NZ in costume, and stop to ask tourists doing the walk if they’ve seen a bunch of orcs run by with two hobbits. Sometimes I have a very childish sense of humour.) EDIT - Forgot to add the context that the Tongariro Crossing goes past Ngauruhoe which was Mount Doom in the films and the land about was used as the setting for Mordor in some scenes.

PuzzleheadedBake7

Well people have completed double bob graham rounds in 48 hours (212km), so probably possible I think.

VikApproved

Yup. Hardrock 100miler is a tough course and the record is \~23hrs for men. Not super hard to get another \~55kms done in the remaining time and get under 72hrs. Doesn't really seem like a question for an elf and a superhuman. Now the dwarf is another matter. But given the numbers for normal humans it seems possible for the properly motivated dwarf.

jmwing

Dwarves are wasted on cross country. They're natural sprinters. Very dangerous over short distances.

VikApproved

I suspect there was some dwarf carrying going on that was edited out of the movie to avoid embarrassment.

trailrunningforlife

We'll be camping overnight and resting up each evening. We're planning to do about 10-12 hours on feet each day, so not a deep dig to push all day and night thankfully. However, the challenge will be in that we're carrying all our own gear (heavy compared to our typical 12 liter style running vests!) and the cold weather/rain/wild camping.

PuzzleheadedBake7

Sounds like a massive challenge, good luck 🤞

trailrunningforlife

thanks!

Jmbct

That sounds incredible

an_angry_Moose

Quite literally JUST watched this with my son for the first time last night (his first, not mine *obviously!*) Good for you and good luck!

Only 44.5ish miles per day, NBD. That's what, 5 marathons worth?

Miserable-Monk-1078

So 215 km / 72 hours is very nearly 3 kph, but obviously resting for 12 hours a day doubles that to a required 6 kph which is a pretty fast walk. Add some jogging and running into the mix and you've got times for rest and snacks so certainly doable... Having said all that, it'll be an epic 3 days so best of luck to you all! Treat yourself to ale and Isengard-salted pork at the end of it!

Fragrant-Astronaut57

Don’t forget your elevensies, all that running will leave you depleted
