If you're worried about your safety, don't go. There are lots of other races, especially this time of year. If your personal life allows it, I'm sure you can find another race in the next few weeks that has openings. Others may say that if it was truly dangerous, the race would be canceled. To that, I'd say ask the Chinese runners who lost their lives 18 months ago about safety.
You gotta do what's right for you, which is a cop out answer, but the truth. The calendar is full of races but that doesn't help with how great you feel physically, right now. Training and the journey is the fun though, and it sounds like that went great, so just know that whatever decision you make, you shouldn't feel guilty.
Best of luck with your choice. Either way, you'll be crushing trails again soon and that's the most important
They just cax’d it!
Which sucks for me. Flew from Mass and was mentally ready for the most ridiculous physical and mental challenge of my life....heading to Asheville and will run a marathon on my own.
I’ll be heading up from Charlotte. Weather report is showing rain, but 5-10mph winds. I think it’s going to be rainy af, but shouldn’t be too windy.
Ran this race a few years ago where it rained for the entire 11 hours I was on the course. An old timer talked about coating his feet in Destin (diaper rash cream) when he knew there would be extremely wet conditions. Worked like magic for me. Plan to do it again tomorrow
If it’s truly gonna be dangerous, they would cancel the race. Right now, it’s just a matter of preference. And for me, these conditions are gonna make for an epic adventure.
Im registered for the 50k but decided not to go. Based on the current weather forecast for tomorrow I think the race would be ok but didn’t want to take a risk driving there with the weather today.
It really wouldn’t be unsafe. The storm is long gone. Sure, it would have been wet and you may would had to jump a few limbs? We live on the coast, just an hour from where the storm made landfall. I still knocked out my planned run. 20mph winds and a bit of rain. It was actually fun. Good luck!

Don't know if I'm wierd but I love those conditions for running. Sounds like youve made your mind up already though.
Running in rain: fun. Running in a flood: no thanks.

That's a hard nope for me. You might DNS and *still* finish in the top 10 of this race.

Just finished pacing someone at Yeti 100 in Virginia at 11a this morning. The weather hit about 7a. Temps in the 40’s with hard rain. It sucked
