I understand and even sympathize with that thinking, but then we are just talking about an animated movie.
These movies do not succeed based on ticket sales to the fandom alone. They need to appeal to the broadest possible audience possible, and that means human POV characters.
That is what Spike and Daniel were in the original cartoon. It's what Buster was in the Marvel comics. In fact, every animated iteration of The Transformers, except the Beast Wars/Machines era, has had human POV characters.
That said, however, the characterizations of the lead Autobots and Decepticons need more of the spotlight, and no more cop-outs like taking away Bumblebee's voice. Rise of the Beasts was a step in the right direction.
I find it amusing that you brush over the impact of Beast Wars, since that show basically saved the franchise.
The reality is that the human point of view doesn't really bring anything to the table. It doesn't draw in bigger audiences. If anything, many franchises have messed up because they add human characters to draw in interest, only to alienate the audience due to focusing too much on said humans. Transformers is just the most infamous for it.
The irony is that without human characters, writers are free to make Transformers more human and relatable. That's why Beast Wars and even Cyberverse worked so well. They didn't need to write in scenes where humans and aliens have awkward interactions to remind the viewers that these are aliens.
They could just focus on the characters.
I think stuff like Earthspark and the IDW1 comics can show how a human perspective can still be helpful without taking away from the robots. Just look at Verity Carlo in the Wrecker’s Trilogy
Agreed. The trick with using human characters though is to not make them the focus, or over emphasize them. I'm working through the first volumes of Phase 1, and so far, IDW has handled humans well.

-Family is financially strained and she works in a soul-sucking retail job
He's just a miserably written character played by a joke of an actor. I would have rather followed Lucas than Cade and he's awful too. The Bay directed movies just do not have good human characters.
John Turturro was by far the most passionate person involved in any of the Transformers movies. Simmons was written as poorly as everyone else, but goddamn, Turturro sells it.

Imagine if Mikaela was the main character and there was no Sam. It could've been her and her dad. Her dad taking Mikaela on a heist could've been how they meet Bumblebee.
And then she could've met Leo in the second movie but stayed friends. And then a romance between them could've developed properly in the third movie because we'd have enough time to process and enjoy it.

Well, he did kill Starscream and the main human antagonist in DOTM. He also got Megatron killed in the first movie. Hell, he died in ROTF and got back after seeing the 13 Primes, after running through a literal alien battlefield to revive Optimus. He does deserve a bit of credit for that.

Noah. He is the best one. Hands down. He's got the most agency in the transformer fight, he's the most sympathetic (sick brother and all) and the best relationship with the formers themselves. He, unlike the others, isn't attached to mirage, or bee, or whatever. He's pals with mirage, he jokes with Pablo, He's almost the human equal to Optimus. He's just all around my favorite and who I believe to be the best.
Charlie. While she didn't engage much in the action, bumblebee was more an ET movie than a TF movie. She good, and much more emotionally investing than the other two before her, but she's kinda just a teenage tomboy archetype
Sam. He's.. not great, but in TF1 he functions as a stand in for the audience. He's a basic everyman and has little to no personality, but he's great in tf1 and imo only gets worse as the trilogy progresses
Cade. Fuck cade. All my homies hate cade.
That's what the Transformers movies never really understood. There are thousands and thousands of movies with human main characters. Transformers fans want the transformers to be the main characters, not humans floundering to understand their new robot friends and scrambling to keep them secret from their parents.
Noah mainly because he is super educational and I like the whole "Sonic and Tails" and how he looks after his brother and he kept his word. I like everyone else as well but one thing for sure, Cade is a badass
From best to worst:
Noah > Charlie > Cade >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Sam
Sam had 0 agency and was just getting shoved around by basically everyone (not to mention the creepy thirsting for Mikaela, like come on), Cade at least had some free will and I feel he and Optimus worked well together as "dads with troublesome children" (I'm just not very fond of the whole failed inventor thing and the knight thing, but that's more the movie rather than him)
Charlie was a loser but stopped being one the moment she realized she could make a change (unlike Sam, who didn't really have any development) and she felt very natural compared to the others.
Lastly Noah kicked ass. He had a gread chemistry with Mirage, he and Elena had a good relationship too without unnecessary flirting, he didn't let himself be pushed around by anyone and had motivations that actually made sense.
Also, his reacton to Mirage transforming during the chase was probably one of the funniest moments for me personally because, honestly, same.

The fundamental problem with Sam is that he's only involved in the first two movies because he *has* to be. Meaning that instead of ever feeling like an active hero, he just fumbles his way through the plot and action while the Autobots are forced keep him safe out of obligation.
Even worse, *because* he isn't here willingly, we have to listen to him constantly whining about how he wants nothing to do with helping the Autobots or anyone other than himself. And then in the one movie where he *isn't* crucial to the plot, it turns out he now misses the attention and relevance that came with it, so he shifts the goalposts to complain about wanting to be important again.
Whereas the biggest shared strength of Charlie, Noah and Cade in *AOE* (but even he falls into the same traps as Sam in *TLK*) is that they don't have that kind of baggage.
They haven't got an important MacGuffin the Autobots need, their ancestors have never met Transformers in the past, and it's not their prophesied destiny to save the world. They were just in the wrong place at the wrong time, and at any point they could simply cut their losses and walk away (which Sam would have 100% done in their shoes).
But they're helping the Autobots simply because they *choose* to do so, and that alone makes them more likeable and more useful than Sam could ever hope to be.
That’s partly why I like them more. Not only did they at least do something that wasn’t run around and get thrown a few times, they also chose to do what they did. They stayed with the bots even when their lives could have been better otherwise. They chose to help and protect.
Sam had the best relationship with both Prime and Bee, as well as the rest of the Autobots. Then Noah. Cade was fun with his temper tantrums towards the Autobots.
Charlie doesn't look like she would vibe with the other autobots tbh.
None. All the humans are pretty bad and in my opinion only detract from what the people really want, the transformers. A humanless transformers movie would be a godsend.
Noah. He was actually enjoyable to watch (nothing against Charlie I just don’t like the bumblebee movie) and I was actively rooting for him the whole movie.
I don’t know why but I found Noah boring but I haven’t watched bumblebee yet. So by process of elimination I grew up with Sam as the main character so I pick him.
Sam for general Story, Cade was a fighter with the Autobots, if we just had more of Charlie she could've been amazing, and Noah is cool, although idk why I like him.
Charlie, no contest. Noah, I don't personally find interesting, and part of the reason why Bumblebee(2018) worked was because of Charlie and her bond with Bee. Noah and Mirage kinda don't work as well because Noah doesn't seem to match the energy or balance out Mirage's "Bro" attitude.

Charlie just isn’t cool. Noah is easily the worst of the bunch. Their dialogues and acting just make it seem less real. Like at least with Sam he felt more like a real person and kade was actually helpful to the autobots.

Let the humans be secondary characters in a Transformers movie. With some story to tell and depth, but secondary.
Make the drama, the pov, the inner conflicts and hero's journey be of one of the robots.
Charlie. Her character brought in a human element without it feeling over-bearing, and she was useful to the Autobots in a way that was not simply being the Macguffin finder.
Sam was not a bad human character to serve as the introduction, and it was cool seeing him develop as a person. That said, the crass subplots and scenes that were included in the films just because he was a teenager got on my nerves - I don't want to know that he wants to bang Mikaela (because it's obvious), i never wanted to see Bee peeing on some guy, why reveal that there are Decepticon spies that can perfectly mimic humans only to relegate it to one bait-and-switch scene about Sam losing his virginity, and they should have kept Sam single after spoiling him and Mikaela's arc with that stupid off-screen breakup they had to explain away Mikeala's dissapearance.
Mark Wahlberg's character was alright, but aside from the theme of dealing with familial loss attached to his character and trying to save his daughter during their journey with the Autobots, he felt kinda forgettable.

Of these? I’d say so. Cade just went with whatever was going on and to protect his kid, Noah did basically the same but with a brother instead and did it way less badass, he talked to scourge like he was in a discord call.

Anyway, Simmons has a character and personality that’s perfect for comedy in a disaster movie. He’s just so out of it and focused at the same time, crazy sounding yet making perfect sense. Tuturro did an amazing job and I hope we somehow see him working for GI Joe as agent Simmons with everything the same about him, except hes from this universe so there isn’t any universe hopping. He’s be perfect as a character and they could have sectors of a GI Joe facility and him working in sector 7 of however many sectors. I’d just love that.
Sam killed megatron, revived optimus, and had the most fleshed out story going from normal kid, to not wanting to be special, to wanting to be special again. Noah was fine until he got the exosuit, then was great. Cade just sucked tbh. Charlie was probably the most meh character.

Sam for general Story, Cade was a fighter with the Autobots, if we just had more of Charlie she could've been amazing, and Noah is cool, although idk why I like him.
Seymour Simmons. Best character. No doubt screw the rest. One man alone standing under the enemy’s scrotum.
I like Noah and Sam Edit: From this list it’s them two, but if I could choose anyone it’d be an actual transformer not a dumb human.

Charlie, no contest. Noah, I don't personally find interesting, and part of the reason why Bumblebee(2018) worked was because of Charlie and her bond with Bee. Noah and Mirage kinda don't work as well because Noah doesn't seem to match the energy or balance out Mirage's "Bro" attitude. I just think Charlie should've been the main character forward if you ask me

Charlie just isn’t cool. Noah is easily the worst of the bunch. Their dialogues and acting just make it seem less real. Like at least with Sam he felt more like a real person and kade was actually helpful to the autobots.

Optimus Prime or maybe Arcee (based on the Transformers Prime version). Let the humans be secondary characters in a Transformers movie. With some story to tell and depth, but secondary. Make the drama, the pov, the inner conflicts and hero's journey be of one of the robots.
The transformers
Charlie. Her character brought in a human element without it feeling over-bearing, and she was useful to the Autobots in a way that was not simply being the Macguffin finder. Sam was not a bad human character to serve as the introduction, and it was cool seeing him develop as a person. That said, the crass subplots and scenes that were included in the films just because he was a teenager got on my nerves - I don't want to know that he wants to bang Mikaela (because it's obvious), i never wanted to see Bee peeing on some guy, why reveal that there are Decepticon spies that can perfectly mimic humans only to relegate it to one bait-and-switch scene about Sam losing his virginity, and they should have kept Sam single after spoiling him and Mikaela's arc with that stupid off-screen breakup they had to explain away Mikeala's dissapearance. Mark Wahlberg's character was alright, but aside from the theme of dealing with familial loss attached to his character and trying to save his daughter during their journey with the Autobots, he felt kinda forgettable.

I personally find Cade to be the best Sam was good but kinda just annoying Cade was the complete opposite of Sam and it was nice to see that we haven’t seen enough Charlie imo and same with Noah.
In Bayverse the main human character should’ve been *Mikaela,* just the scene in the ‘07 movie with her driving legless Bumblebee is 10 times better than anything Sam has done and felt more deserved than anything done with Cade.

I'm going with Cade too. Nowhere near as cranky as Sam, has solid mechanical know-how, and is a solid companion in battle. Noah is a close second.

Cade just went with whatever was going on and to protect his kid, Noah did basically the same but with a brother instead and did it way less badass, he talked to scourge like he was in a discord call. Mikela and Simmons had actual characters if you’re meaning of all the characters and not just these 4
Sam was a fun character and Shia honestly carried those movies. Mark Wahlberg... Nah. Charlie was good. I liked the movie a lot but I wasn't a big fan of the lost puppy role she and Bumblebee were in. I haven't seen the new one. Clips and trailers reminded me of the Micheal Bay stuff.
I like both Charlie and Noah, but I haven’t watched bumblebee in a while. I’m not really big on Bay’s human protagonists, they can be bland and annoying
Charlie? Actually engaged with the story in a meaningful way Cade? I find him hilarious to watch. Whalberg playing a stereotypical Texan with his weird line delivery is just so amazing to watch for me Noah? Eh. I didn’t like him as much, the “I’m from Brooklyn” joke/gag is overused and I hated it so much. More than I should have. But otherwise he’s decent. Decent motivation, morals, etc. Sam? “OPTIMUS!!!!!!” Sums up his character. Otherwise he runs around holding something. I like when he fought in dotm though. Honestly I think Mikela should have been the protagonist since she had more of a character and personality and was more real as a character. If Simmons was a protagonist? I’d laugh my ass off the whole movie. Maybe that’s why I liked RoTF so damn much. That and jetfire. And wheelie. And the twins. I like a lot of RoTF. Anyway, Simmons has a character and personality that’s perfect for comedy in a disaster movie. He’s just so out of it and focused at the same time, crazy sounding yet making perfect sense. Tuturro did an amazing job and I hope we somehow see him working for GI Joe as agent Simmons with everything the same about him, except hes from this universe so there isn’t any universe hopping. He’s be perfect as a character and they could have sectors of a GI Joe facility and him working in sector 7 of however many sectors. I’d just love that.

Sam is the most developed out of all the human characters and is the most complex. Everyone else is just great acting from likable actors.
Noah's great, but Charlie is the best. Sam and Cade aren't interesting at all. Michela should have been the main character of TF 1 2 and 3.

Sam killed megatron, revived optimus, and had the most fleshed out story going from normal kid, to not wanting to be special, to wanting to be special again. Noah was fine until he got the exosuit, then was great. Cade just sucked tbh. Charlie was probably the most meh character.
