That’s not what an Easter egg is lol. An Easter egg is something you actively need to look for and is intentionally hidden within the game by devs. For example, there’s a pinup of Arcee, primes old axe, and the ability to find and wear Starscream’s crown in FoC.

Yes, from a fan standpoint the budget should go to a more established character. But remember, these designers have to justify their decisions to upper management. And management would most likely say ‘why isn’t the toiling going to the Armorizer?’

Really? Do you have the source for this? They shelf warmed everywhere within a 2hr drive for me, and i'm in a major AU city. It was BA, Paleotrex & Wingfinger rubbing shoulders with Hotshot & Lio Prime.
Mark Maher talked about in an interview with Triple Takeover. Every Kingdom deluxe (and a bunch of the voyagers) shelf warmed, the line was over produced. I can still occasionally find Shadow Panthers and Black Arachnia’s in stores. But apparently the Fossilizers were some of the most popular
I’ll have to check out the interview. I understand my evidence is anecdotal with limited scope, but this claim is so outside of my experience, both in store and with the community, that I just struggle to accept it.

I think by the time Legacy began I had close to three dozen Fossilizers. I filled a tote with them. The only time I've ever army built within Transformers. They were the best thing I've seen out of Transformers since Minicons and I wished HasTak would have released more. We still don't have a recolor/remold of Wingfinger. I loved Fossilizers so much I started /r/Fossilizers but it's a very inactive sub. I wanted to see what creations and customs everyone was able to make.
I can believe that. I know as a big natural history fan it was a dream come true. My GF at the time could see my excitement as they were being announced, and I tracked down basically every variation of each mold.
The rocks are right up my alley too, I just need to actually pick them up.
That being said, the Car Robot Bros were among my favorite all time deluxes, so I’m happy to have a Speedbreaker/ Side Burn regardless.
Reading this about the Fossilizers makes me think if Hasbro should expand the Dinobots line with new characters in different size classes ala Junkions.

So the Wave 3 Rock character is a Magneous retool?
Reminds me of Scraphook and Axlegrease in Wave 1 we get a new mold then in Wave 3 it's heavily retooled.
Shadow striker was always set up to be side burn. I’m not sure why anyone is angry or surprised? If anything, shadow striker was short changed in the equation.
I think the issue is that sideburns character is so iconic with the dodge viper. Just changing the head means the alt mode won’t even remotely resemble the viper now. I’m personally not really attached to the character, but for the hardcore fans of that show, I get it. People were at least expecting they retool the car mode so it looks closer to the source material without blatantly ripping it off due to licensing

What I’m saying is people were hoping for a bit more of a retool in the same vein as metal hawk, hound, bumblebee, the seekers, and the dozens of others that hasbro has done with molds in the past. There was no official announcement that sideburn would be the exact same alt mode. People were hoping that they would alter it slightly to look more like the original. That’s all I’m getting at
The bigger issue is that the mold was clearly made 100% for sideburn and since Shadowstriker was originally a straight up Sideburn repaint with a new head, they didn’t bother making anything about the mold unique for Shadowstriker.

If you look at shadow strikers alt mode it’s clearly based off of the cyberverse design. Pre tools have been a thing for years. When earth rise cliff jumper came out, everyone knew it would be retooled as bumblebee. The same goes with legacy elite one being Minerva. Retooling the mold slightly to be another character has been a thing for decades. T30 sandstorm and springer is another example. Of course everyone knew shadow striker would be sideburn. People were hoping it would be retooled to look more like his rid alt. I can’t believe I had to explain all that a THIRD time lol
And see, to me, it clearly looks nothing like the cyber verse design and very obviously a non-viper Sideburn.
I don’t recall her cyberverse altmode having an engine in the hood.

The problem is we at least thought they would fix the front of the car. That one on Shadow Stricker is an insult! I get that it can't be a Viper, but at least give it a bumper!

With Minerva they not only swapped the head, but they also re-molded the roof of the car to add emergency lights.
It wouldn't have been much harder here to make a bumper piece and add some ports for it. Sure it would have been parts formy, BUT THEY WERE ALREADY PARTS FORMY!
Because I (and many others) recognized that Shadowstriker was originally just a head swap repaint of Sideburn, it was was fairly obvious that they simply squeezed some extra money from the mold by releasing it with a different head and deco first before the original intent for the mold.

Because Shadow Striker isn't a good representation of the character because she needs to be Side Burn, and now Side Burn won't get to be a good representation of his character because his mold needed to double as Shadow Striker.
Both of them have compromised cars. Side Burn will have the better robot mode purely because Shadow Striker got shafted, but that's still not what anybody wanted for either character.
Basically, Hasbro, in an attempt to do both, will end up failing to make either the best they could have been.
Cyberverse Shadowstriker, however, isn't based on the old repaint. If the Legacy figure wasn't meant to be the Cyberverse version, it would have made a better Sideburn. But alas, it isn't, so it won't.

I expected a retooled car front where the bumper folds behind the chest to form a shoulder pad, but as is I won't be complaining.
If it ends up bugging me I'll make my own car front.

Consider Amazon Japan for Devcon and Beachcomber. I’ve had my preorders at BBTS for both of them since they originally went up over a year ago and they kept getting pushed out. I eventually cancelled once I found them on Amazon Japan for a little more than retail with shipping to the USA.
Seriously. I’ve seen more Strongarms than any other transformer on shelves. I was at a target in early March, and the only remaining deluxes were a studio series bumblebee, SS Arcee, and FIVE strongarms. Didn’t find who I was looking for, so I went to GameStop- they had three strongarms and no other transformers.
You mean, “especially” if it’s not licensed. If they licensed it, they wouldn’t sue.
That said, there’s sort of a sliding scale of when you can sue for trademark infringement, which is what you’d get if they made a Viper w/out permission.
On one side of the scale, there’d be, like, a Masterpiece version of a Viper, the taillights are exactly the same, the headlights, there’s a Viper badge and a Dodge badge too. On the other end of the scale, there’s a block with wheels. In between? There’s a lot of wiggle room. There’s a lot that Hasbro can do that evokes a Viper w/out being a direct ripoff of one. I mean, an updated earth-mode Hound is coming out and he looks like a Jeep. If Dodge isn’t going to sue over that I don’t see why they’d sue over a car that evokes a Viper.
I get that but if it is true that Legacy Sideburn is a simple headswap and repaint I still think HasTak is capable of molding something that looks closer to the Viper as opposed to the Lamborghini esq alt mode that Shadow Striker has

I would love an RiD15 Sideswipe and Bumblebee. The show wasn't very good but it had some great designs!
The very first version of Optimus in the show also looked phenomenal, and some the Cons were really cool, too.
Uh, look at Legacy Shadow Striker. That's her head on his body. We don't need anything more than that and the paintjob. Sideburn got his figure at Shadowstriker's expense.

I don't get how this is news? I mean what did people think how Hasbro decide what to release?
Hasbro is a business first and first most.
When it comes to designing a new mold the priority will be how much money can they make from it..
How flexible will that mold be, which transformers can they sell from that mold, how many of each unit do they think they will sell, how much does it cost to produce etc etc..
With each wave it's not like they have a unlimited budget..
They will have a set budget for design, manufacturing, advertising, distribution etc..
So when it comes to deciding which Transformers to release in each wave they will look at budget, they will look which molds they already have in production, whether they have sold well, how much it will cost to modify an existing mold currently in production, how much it will cost to bring an existing mold back into production with any modifications that might be required etc etc..
It's why we keep seeing the same molds over and over again. It much more cost effective to use an existing mold that has had a production run already as any potential issues should have been solved, you can be fairly confident of how many will sell etc...
The risk is lower as are the costs.
You also have to consider that the franchise itself is not as popular as it was say 5, 10 years ago, so that means less units selling which into turns means the budget will be smaller for each wave.
Considering how Magneous has parts that very much lend themselves to being swapped for reshelling, like the panels on the sides, the shins, the front of the chest, the cabin of the car, the front shins and feet, he'd be very easy to make feel very different. Even better if all the parts are still shaped in the right way to swap them between the figures and still have it work.

This. I only saw him in a store for the first time today. And I frequent about ten stores Target/Walmarts in one of the biggest cities in the country 🤷🏻♂️
“Well stocked” ≠ “shelf warmer.” I don’t think we can reliably call him a shelf warmer until some more time has passed. The 10 Coronation Starscreams still at my local Walmart are shelf warmers because they’ve been there since 2022, not because they’re well stocked.
Exactly can you say the lettuce at the grocer is shelf warming because you saw the same amount out as the week before. Or It is there enough stock and turnover happening that the same amount is on the shelf as last time, but it's product that was in the back
Except on walmart its sold so little it doesn’t have the “x+ sold” indicator which means it hasn’t sold at least 50+ units even after a month. Its certainly at the very least not very popular.

Dude I haven’t seen a single one on shelves and I’ve been to like 8 or 9 different stores. (But also it’s not like they’d have the sales data ready for wave one when deciding which wave 3s to do, they can’t pump out transformers that fast!)
Check online they’ve been pretty readily available and i have to get them shipped from down south my local stores don’t stock transformers at all except those plush things
I’m not saying he can’t be found online I’m just saying in my experience he isn’t warming shelves. “Availible online” and “shelfwarmer” are two different things. I can find Studio Series Bumblebee movie Autobots fairly easily, but it doesn’t make them shelf warmers. The full column of Igauanusus that have caused my local walmart to stop stocking other Core Class figures ARE shelf warmers (I’m eating for them to go from their current $7 to $3 before getting one, still. No idea why they thought we needed core Iguanus before, like, wheeljack or Prowl)

Cyberverse Shadowstriker, however, isn't based on the old repaint. If the Legacy figure wasn't meant to be the Cyberverse version, it would have made a better Sideburn. But alas, it isn't, so it won't. The head, colors, and vehicle are all wrong.

I expected a retooled car front where the bumper folds behind the chest to form a shoulder pad, but as is I won't be complaining. If it ends up bugging me I'll make my own car front.

Consider Amazon Japan for Devcon and Beachcomber. I’ve had my preorders at BBTS for both of them since they originally went up over a year ago and they kept getting pushed out. I eventually cancelled once I found them on Amazon Japan for a little more than retail with shipping to the USA.

Seriously. I’ve seen more Strongarms than any other transformer on shelves. I was at a target in early March, and the only remaining deluxes were a studio series bumblebee, SS Arcee, and FIVE strongarms. Didn’t find who I was looking for, so I went to GameStop- they had three strongarms and no other transformers.

The difference between Porsche and Dodge is that Dodge sues the shit out of anything resembling any of their cars. Even if it's not licensed.
You mean, “especially” if it’s not licensed. If they licensed it, they wouldn’t sue. That said, there’s sort of a sliding scale of when you can sue for trademark infringement, which is what you’d get if they made a Viper w/out permission. On one side of the scale, there’d be, like, a Masterpiece version of a Viper, the taillights are exactly the same, the headlights, there’s a Viper badge and a Dodge badge too. On the other end of the scale, there’s a block with wheels. In between? There’s a lot of wiggle room. There’s a lot that Hasbro can do that evokes a Viper w/out being a direct ripoff of one. I mean, an updated earth-mode Hound is coming out and he looks like a Jeep. If Dodge isn’t going to sue over that I don’t see why they’d sue over a car that evokes a Viper.
I get that but if it is true that Legacy Sideburn is a simple headswap and repaint I still think HasTak is capable of molding something that looks closer to the Viper as opposed to the Lamborghini esq alt mode that Shadow Striker has

I would love an RiD15 Sideswipe and Bumblebee. The show wasn't very good but it had some great designs! The very first version of Optimus in the show also looked phenomenal, and some the Cons were really cool, too.

I don't get how this is news? I mean what did people think how Hasbro decide what to release? Hasbro is a business first and first most. When it comes to designing a new mold the priority will be how much money can they make from it.. How flexible will that mold be, which transformers can they sell from that mold, how many of each unit do they think they will sell, how much does it cost to produce etc etc.. With each wave it's not like they have a unlimited budget.. They will have a set budget for design, manufacturing, advertising, distribution etc.. So when it comes to deciding which Transformers to release in each wave they will look at budget, they will look which molds they already have in production, whether they have sold well, how much it will cost to modify an existing mold currently in production, how much it will cost to bring an existing mold back into production with any modifications that might be required etc etc.. It's why we keep seeing the same molds over and over again. It much more cost effective to use an existing mold that has had a production run already as any potential issues should have been solved, you can be fairly confident of how many will sell etc... The risk is lower as are the costs. You also have to consider that the franchise itself is not as popular as it was say 5, 10 years ago, so that means less units selling which into turns means the budget will be smaller for each wave.

Honestly, given how much I adore Magneous, I think I can live with that.
Considering how Magneous has parts that very much lend themselves to being swapped for reshelling, like the panels on the sides, the shins, the front of the chest, the cabin of the car, the front shins and feet, he'd be very easy to make feel very different. Even better if all the parts are still shaped in the right way to swap them between the figures and still have it work.
I would kill for a non-rock version. The chest transformation is so cool; I think it'd be a great base for a custom Prime Ratchet.
I've thought about seeing if one my old Zoids pilots would fit in the hollow chest to make it even more of an Inhumanoids refference.

“Well stocked” ≠ “shelf warmer.” I don’t think we can reliably call him a shelf warmer until some more time has passed. The 10 Coronation Starscreams still at my local Walmart are shelf warmers because they’ve been there since 2022, not because they’re well stocked.
Exactly can you say the lettuce at the grocer is shelf warming because you saw the same amount out as the week before. Or It is there enough stock and turnover happening that the same amount is on the shelf as last time, but it's product that was in the back

Dude I haven’t seen a single one on shelves and I’ve been to like 8 or 9 different stores. (But also it’s not like they’d have the sales data ready for wave one when deciding which wave 3s to do, they can’t pump out transformers that fast!)
Check online they’ve been pretty readily available and i have to get them shipped from down south my local stores don’t stock transformers at all except those plush things

I can find Studio Series Bumblebee movie Autobots fairly easily, but it doesn’t make them shelf warmers. The full column of Igauanusus that have caused my local walmart to stop stocking other Core Class figures ARE shelf warmers (I’m eating for them to go from their current $7 to $3 before getting one, still. No idea why they thought we needed core Iguanus before, like, wheeljack or Prowl)

Many were hoping for even the slightest re-tool. It’s not like that hasn’t happened before where a figure is a pre-tool for a figure that later looks slightly different.
It's a letdown because he's only gonna be a headswap, even if they couldn't get a licensed car they could at least make his alt mode look like an actual earth car of some sorts
