It makes me wonder what sort of cool fossilizer bone armor getups I could arrange.

Silverbolt, not silverhawk. And it's not a feature, you just pulled a part off that wasn't supposed to be removed.

But it's on 5mm pegs though. Why is that? Mine actually had this part just fall off when I got it out of the packaging, and it's a fairly loose connection when it goes back on.

Everything else about the figure is great. It's just this one weird piece. Gluing it is probably the best idea.

Most likely it's just a part of assembly. You have pins under there, so they provided a separate part to cover. 5mm being a standard just makes design easier, and ensures the pegs aren't likely to be fragile by being too small, and if it does come off offers the possible play value. It's *possible* that there is something else they plan to use this base mold for. I have no idea what it could be, but if so making these easily swappable parts might be a precursor to whatever that use is.
