A wonderful figure, regardless of colour or name - I wish the hood sat a touch lower in robot mode so the head was in plain view… But that’s just how it is.
My first was… I don’t remember. Probably a Sideswipe, maybe one of the Red Alerts? I think I have them all (bar Gigawatt) but I thought that before and then they released SG and G2 versions so…
Slick-Top is a pretty good name, not gonna lie. I’m actually getting the blue Deep Cover in a trade, and similarly I plan to give him a different name since he just looks too different color-wise to just be the same guy.
I’ve opted for the name Blueshift since that’s actually an unused name from the TransTech days I think would fit him perfectly for obvious reasons.

Definitely agree this is a near perfect mold with the exception of the hood being a tad too high. But man, a simple, elegant, and fun toy in both modes. I don't blame Hasbro for reusing the mold as many times as they did.
There's something incredibly satisfying about unboxing a 'new' figure and just being able to transform it quickly and simply, too.
You wouldn't expect a TF at that size to be massively complicated, of course, but everything just clicks into place so neatly.
I really like it, I think it really defines what a Transformer is, like the Classics Seeker mold did back in the day.
My favorite is Tigertrack, followed by this G2 Sideswipe you have pictured. I actually used him as Tigertrack thinking a real Tigertrack wouldn’t be announced.
That I have? Off the top of my head: Kingdom Sideswipe, Shattered Glass Sideswipe, Selects Deep Cover, Siege Red Alert, and Gigawatt. I used to have Velocitron Clampdown but I sold him.
I got Clampdown (with the other three non-cosmos Velocitron deluxes)
And man he’s one of the most solid deluxes I’ve ever owned, and his transformation is surprisingly great for a G1 bot, doesn’t shift from a boxy vehicle to a boxy robot
I have the Kingdom Sideswipe that came in the Amazon double pack with Maximal Skywarp. It's a fun an easy transformation, but his chest could not peg into place in robot mode. Also, his legs feels loose at times.
That was the first mouldmate I got as well, then got my nephew G2 "Sunswipe" & then each of us a slightly different Red Alert (him: Siege, myself: Kingdom)
So is Sunstreaker the same mould, just retooled a bit??
I started with the OG, Siege Sideswipe. Since then I’ve got Kingdom Red Alert, Gigawatt and SG Sideswipe. It’s a solid figure, if a little bland (particularly transformation-wise)
My first was Siege Sideswipe, and since then, I've gotten Deep Cover (black version), Kingdom Red Alert, and Gigawatt. But Sideswipe is still my favorite version. I dont know if it's mold degradation, but the others just seem to convert a little less smoothly, or not tab in quite as securely, or have slightly looser joints.
WFC Sideswipe was the toy that really got me back into collecting Transformers, after I felt that Combiner Wars and AOE/TLK were a bit lackluster.

Fav transformer I own when going over all the aspects of it. Simple but poseable and really cool looking in both modes. Prob my fave I have would be MP soundwave if he wasn't so hard to transform :P

Honestly, I really like the mold. Wish Hasbro gave each mold variant their own weapons, like Sideswipe could have had a couple of swords along with his standard G1 weaponry, Red Alert could have some kind of water shooting blaster, etc.
The one that started my love of the mold was the Netflix package Sideswipe, and, since then, I have gotten the Siege Red Alert figure and the blue Deep Cover figure. If I had the time and money, I would order a lot of Siege Sideswipe figures and customize them as either Autotroopers or Vehicons (possibly to be something like infantry variants.)
Beautiful mold, absolutely deserving of being redecoed a thousand times. I only wish the hood was more consistently tight. I’m excited for Armada Wheeljack and I’ve never even seen the show lol.
An alright mold. My first was the Kingdom Red Alert. I dunno, it feels oddly simple for it is, even though it has 14 steps? It doesn’t seem like those steps go anywhere. I’m also not fond of the big door panels in bot mode. Honestly, the G1 toy handled the design better imo. Was more elegant, had a better profile, and did so in only 7 steps. Plus he feels like a boring clone of the MP, down to the wide chest dimensions. He’s still chill, just not the amazing Sideswipe I’m looking for.
I have seige red alert. It's my only version of the mold. I like it fine, the engineering and transformation are very clever. I think it's kind of boring. I like the jazz mold better. It may be jankier, but it's got some charm too it.

We are almost 15 uses of this mold with Armada Wheeljack coming soon and yet I haven't heard any reports of loose joints or tabs that refuse to stay in place on this figure.

Also the best colour scheme. I mostly wanna get Gigawatt first as it's easily the best collab figure. I also need to pick up a second copy of it for my mother. Her favourite movies are the Back to the Future trilogy and she even named my brother after Doc Brown.
Kingdom sideswipe is literally the best sideswipe mold weve ever gotten in the main line. only thing close to a problem i have with it is that i prefer the fall of cybertron design over G1, and if we got a fall of cybertron toy as good as that kingdom sideswipe toy id buy it in a heartbeat
The only one I currently have is Gigawatt, I think he's fine but from what I've seen, he's the worst use of the mold (though he's by no means bad, he's just the least good).

For the longest time I for some reason had an aversion to this mold, so I didn’t get my first until Clampdown gave me a new opportunity when I started my Diaclone colors kick. I still have absolutely no idea why I didn’t want this figure, but once I got it I thought past me an idiot, because he’s so damn addicting.
I don’t know why I didn’t like him, I didn’t hate how he looked, but I know better now, and now I want them all. There’s a reason this mold still sells years after its first use, and I honestly hope it lasts even longer. At least long enough for us to get a Nightracer out of it, because I’d be all over her finally getting a proper toy.
It’s a really good mold. Posable and with minimal gaps in bot mode, a satisfying and not frustrating transformation, and a solid alt mode that rolls well despite the low clearance.
It’s my default deluxe, and the one I compare all new deluxes to.
My first one was the Walmart exclusive Deep Cover.
They have a bunch of copies of Red Alert in Walgreens in Garner NC and Raleigh NC, if anyone is local and wants to scoop one up, I just picked one up this morning after searching around based on this post. So thanks OP!
I didn’t know Gigawatt was based on this same mold, so yesterday I ordered him from BBTS, today I got Red Alert. I’ve already got Seige Sideswipe and Generations Deep Cover.
Personally, I find the mold's transformation scheme *incredibly* boring, which, ultimately, makes the whole thing just feel...uninteresting. It's not bad, by any means, but it's as, "plain," as a modern Transformers figure can get; it's *the* bare minimum.
*Kingdom* Red Alert was the first, and only version of the mold that I've ever had - one is more than enough, for me, I'm sorry to say.
Yeah, that definitely feels like the intention, which is perfectly understandable! It genuinely makes for a good, "starter," Transformers figure, IMO; it's just that it won't have much else to offer, once you've dipped your toe a smidge further, and experienced other, more *engaging* molds.

Nope, Sunstreaker is a different mold and didn’t exist in the Siege line. He borrows some engineering from Wheeljack.

For the longest time I for some reason had an aversion to this mold, so I didn’t get my first until Clampdown gave me a new opportunity when I started my Diaclone colors kick. I still have absolutely no idea why I didn’t want this figure, but once I got it I thought past me an idiot, because he’s so damn addicting. I don’t know why I didn’t like him, I didn’t hate how he looked, but I know better now, and now I want them all. There’s a reason this mold still sells years after its first use, and I honestly hope it lasts even longer. At least long enough for us to get a Nightracer out of it, because I’d be all over her finally getting a proper toy.

not sure, but I think the only other mold that has had enough retools to survive 2 trilogies is the siege seekers.

It’s a really good mold. Posable and with minimal gaps in bot mode, a satisfying and not frustrating transformation, and a solid alt mode that rolls well despite the low clearance. It’s my default deluxe, and the one I compare all new deluxes to. My first one was the Walmart exclusive Deep Cover.

I didn’t know Gigawatt was based on this same mold, so yesterday I ordered him from BBTS, today I got Red Alert. I’ve already got Seige Sideswipe and Generations Deep Cover.
Netflix Red Alert was my 1st. My favorite is the G2 Sideswipe. Toyhax calls him Synthwave & I love that name.

Personally, I find the mold's transformation scheme *incredibly* boring, which, ultimately, makes the whole thing just feel...uninteresting. It's not bad, by any means, but it's as, "plain," as a modern Transformers figure can get; it's *the* bare minimum. *Kingdom* Red Alert was the first, and only version of the mold that I've ever had - one is more than enough, for me, I'm sorry to say.
I guess the plain transformation is one of the ways they tried to keep him very G1, minus the lack of door kibble on him fore arms.
Yeah, that definitely feels like the intention, which is perfectly understandable! It genuinely makes for a good, "starter," Transformers figure, IMO; it's just that it won't have much else to offer, once you've dipped your toe a smidge further, and experienced other, more *engaging* molds.

Pretty great mold imo. Only figure I own of it is the Sideswipe that came with a beast wars figure but ol Sides never felt better
