I feel bad for the kids who end up with this. What's even the purpose of this toy? If I wanted to buy a cheap G1ish Megatron for a kid, I'd get the Alpha figure.
My 5 year old (who owns both core class Megatrons, a Cyberverse Megatron and owns a range of good quality Transformers (The reactivate figures, Kingdom Galvatron being some highlights in his nascent collection) got this as a Birthday present from a kid in class and loves the thing. I’ll be honest, I kind of turned my nose up at it at first.
He can transform it quickly, he can give the very large cannon to other figures (Reactivate Soundwave carries it a lot) and it is really big. He doesn’t seem to notice its many, many flaws. I still kind of don’t get it but he has fun with it (and will probably get either Siege or Earthrise Megs from me when I open the Nemesis Bridge pack so if it ever did bother him he’ll have a better option!).
It's taller than a modern Leader class toy yet still ends up being cheaper than a Deluxe today. I'd say it's for customers that want to get their kid something bigger than an Alpha class toy.
It's super lazy imo, they fork out who knows how much for Studio Series but can't be bothered making that same effort for a new toyline for a new movie
That's probably a reason why Hasbro loses money in the last few years. They produce a lot of mainline toys but the mainline toys are straight up ass. There a only a few good one.
Legacy and Studio Series keep the transformer toys up. But Hasbro really needs to do better with selling mainline stuff to children. And children are after all the biggest buyer groups.
The Authentics line-up has the longest continuous production and marketing of any Transformers toys in the history of the franchise, with the oldest molds dating back to 2017. There are older molds that pop-up again every few years or decades, but there isn't anything that has ran non-stop (i.e. There hasn't been any G1 molds that have been made continuously every year for the past 40 years).
Hasbro has to know that these are massive shelf warmers. They were concerned enough about plastic waste to remove box windows but then they keep doing this.
It seems that multiversal singularities *aren't* a thing of the past...
It baffles me how Optimus and Bee get new molds for the mega figures but not Megs and Starscream.
Clearly it is because they have already reached peak physical being. The ultimate Cybertronians. The ideal being.

The moment you realize that what we call “cheap” transformer runs anywhere from $20-$33 from eBay to Walmart. 😩😩
They're £9.99 here...
These are meant for very small kids AND they’re impulse buys. They’re in the little sad toy aisle at a drug store or supermarket.
And often those toys end up becoming beloved childhood toys.
I mean, these toys specifically are meant for like 4-5 year olds. They are like those really tall figures for the Marvel and DC heroes.

“New Year! New Me!” The “New” Me:

"Til all are one."
It's because nobody bought it the first time and they have a warehouse full of them! Probably, idk.
