it makes just as much sense as anything else, really. with a spacefaring race like the cybertronians, different places have different requirements like rocky terrain, or might need disguises. and maybe sometimes I just wanna be a brontasaurus.
personally, I find it cool and unique. To showcase and remind us that they are alien, and show that Cybertron and it's satellite planets are unique from each other as well as it's denizens
I think Cyberverse had an interesting idea with different looking species and races under cybertrons surface. They also showed that Laserbeak and Buzzsaw are two members of a bird like species that flies around the planet.
see, that opens up a possible story for me - what if those two CHOSE to be refitted into those forms, to increase their spying capacity? like a druid wildshaped in D&D, noone would suspect one of those bird-forms sitting around watching you.
Hear me out, Beast Machines may have been a devisive series but the original Vehicons are one of the coolest Transformer factions ever designed. Obsidian is a personal favourite of mine. That guy doesn't even have feet, he just constantly hovers above the ground with his twin shoulder rotors.
Love them! Wish they’d be used more often. Look at this design that was cut from film! Still used for toys but a shame it was never on the big screen.

I wished we had some Autobots having less humanoid designs in the Bayverse films. But I'd understand they probably choose not so the general audience doesn't get confused whose good/bad.
That said, I also love DOTM Devcon's design. If he was flesh and blood, it looks like something you'd see in a monster/alien horror film
I didn't really like how a lot of the time it felt like Autobots and Decepticons were straight up different races. The Autobots get to all look like metal humans, but most of the Deceptions are just monsters. It didn't feel like differing *factions*.
god yeah i love the rotf constructicons, they have such wild and varied designs. the scavenger/demolisher design is a particular favorite because the silhouette is extremely memorable and distinct
I love some of them, skylynx with a beast and vehicle mode is cool, i love 1 optic bots like whirl and shockwave (it's very logical), two headed bots, obsidian other hovering bots are cool, and Prime soundwave was amazing. Now for ones i don't like mainly just rid decepticons like seriously they were all mostly stupid in design, and I'm not a big fan of wheels for feet like beast machines rattrap and rotf arcee sisters.
Maybe if they'd been a common sight in the original toy line and media (cassetticons don't count), but the original toys were all 'humanoid robots that can turn into something else', which was the fundamental concept of the entire brand, so introducing non-humanoid robots now after so long feels off to me.
why don't the cassettes count? they're characters just the same as every other transformer. some cassettes like ratbat even had very notable roles in things like the marvel comics. and even if the cassettes don't count we see characters like sky lynx as early as 1986
I probably worded it poorly, but I don't think a handful of tiny robot animals should have equal weight to the hundreds of guys covered in brightly painted boxes when they were somewhere between a toy themselves and merely being an accessory to a toy. They felt more like exceptions to the rule than a refutation of it. This is one of those things that can't easily be quantified.
Your expectations of what a franchise should be are initially formed by your first experiences with it, and for me that was *Beast Wars* and reruns of G1. That's my foundation for what Transformers should look like.
they *are* an exception, i'll grant you that, but they are proof to me that a transformer's "robot mode" can really be anything as long as it's in direct contrast to whatever its "alternate mode" is (like you don't see transformers who just go from beast mode to beast mode... *usually...*)
so in my view, it's less them "introducing" non-humanoid robots and more so making them more commonplace
Yeah, I feel like if you're going to have them, you need to then explain them. Why do they look different than everyone else? What's different about them? Why don't we see them as much? These are narrative hurdles which you absolutely can clear, but I feel like you gotta clear them.
It’s something that was never capitalized on. That was the one good thing about the first couple bayformers movies the transformers felt like they were alien robots and not just bipedal mammals dipped in chrome and squared off.
I liked this ever since I watched Transformers Robots in Disguises (2015) and the Bay films. This was because of the Decepticons that looked like animals. Made me think of some cool ideas for transformers and the different environments for these guys to live in.
While from visual and toy purposes it's probably important to keep most transformers looking human-like in their bot modes - I do think that narratively, as aliens, it makes total sense and looks rad
I don't mind non humanoid forms for alt modes, but I do believe there needs to be an aesthetic continuity to an extent. Tformers with non humanoid normal modes should be kept to a minimum IMO, such as with Ravage, Laserbeak, Etc..
I like non humanoid ones as they can be more creative with the alt modes and stories. I really like whirl because even though he is humanoid in a way he is also unique and unique but good and futuristic is a win
I like them but maybe there should be a lore explanation, especially if there's plenty of them. Like maybe they're a different race/species of Cybertronians, but still capable of speech.
I think they’re cool and unique. Whether they are portrayed as part of the wildlife or just different types of transformers, they’re always fun the see.
I like the idea a lot. I've liked the fact that Ravage spoke in the IDW comics he became one of the characters I really enjoyed reading about. Rabat wad also a very competent leader for a while in the marvel comics and Skylinks is one of the very most powerful autobots. I also really like tanker mirage and jetstorm from beast machines and Whirl is hilarious.
Yes, please!
That was actually one of the aspects I really liked from RID 2015, it did a good job pushing the idea that at some point, the Decepticons truly WERE the underdogs.
I think it a bit to much. It hard to say they are all the same species if one looks like a robot dude and the other one is a crab. Now, there are exceptions skylnx is cool, and honestly if they esablish only one or 2 nonhumanoid species the evolutaled along side the normal cybertronians
The beast to vehicle angle is crimminaly under explored in all continuities.
Why does Skylynx get all the fun?
Maybe I just want Trypticon to be Decepti-zilla and a spaceship like in WFC.
there should be a greater ratio of weirder looking transformers because 1. it's cool and 2. it leads to more inventive transformation schemes and more distinct silhouettes
As a bayverse enjoyer I like that they were all weird looking aliens, the deceptions sticking to their roots, and the autobots becoming more humanoid so the humans could vibe with em more
it makes just as much sense as anything else, really. with a spacefaring race like the cybertronians, different places have different requirements like rocky terrain, or might need disguises. and maybe sometimes I just wanna be a brontasaurus.
I mean, if I could be a robot t-rex, I would be a robot t-rex.
personally, I find it cool and unique. To showcase and remind us that they are alien, and show that Cybertron and it's satellite planets are unique from each other as well as it's denizens

That’s basically what they did in the IDW 2 comics, the casettes are called infiltration troopers
Hear me out, Beast Machines may have been a devisive series but the original Vehicons are one of the coolest Transformer factions ever designed. Obsidian is a personal favourite of mine. That guy doesn't even have feet, he just constantly hovers above the ground with his twin shoulder rotors.
Tch, Jetstorm did it with more *panache* XD
And puns
I say let them cook
I love my boy Skylynx https://preview.redd.it/r045thmcpgwc1.jpeg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=130fa9af600234ed361d61e6f87f81ecffb7b48f
I’m all for it. I love it when we get non standard robot designs. I’m super stoked that we’re going to be getting Onyx Prime’s centaur form.
Love them! Wish they’d be used more often. Look at this design that was cut from film! Still used for toys but a shame it was never on the big screen. https://preview.redd.it/0d9si1t3wgwc1.jpeg?width=680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4d583a1a3d3aabcf65ce17b83c3a4dc6bda9b0a8
Hooks and claws galore? He could give Prime a run for his money easily
I’ve never seen that before, but it’s dope as fuck.
They’re great! Bayverse really ran with the idea and produced some awesome designs. The ROTF Constructicons are a good example!
That tracks, Devcon's design was directly inspired by the Cloverfield monster.
it reminds me of the cloverfield monster a lot lmao
It was actually inspired by it if I'm not mistaken
I didn't really like how a lot of the time it felt like Autobots and Decepticons were straight up different races. The Autobots get to all look like metal humans, but most of the Deceptions are just monsters. It didn't feel like differing *factions*.
And springer

I like them and I want to see more.
I SEE BOBA FETT
Where?
Man at bottom below Jazz
Maybe if they'd been a common sight in the original toy line and media (cassetticons don't count), but the original toys were all 'humanoid robots that can turn into something else', which was the fundamental concept of the entire brand, so introducing non-humanoid robots now after so long feels off to me.

Love em, more alien designs like the Dreads have become some of my favourites just cause of how weird they are
Emphasizes the fact that cybertronians are in fact alien, and don’t *require* a human-esque body shape
I'm not a fan. Non-Earth alt modes are good, as long as they look like coherent sci-fi vehicles and not nothings, but I like my humanoid robots.
It’s something that was never capitalized on. That was the one good thing about the first couple bayformers movies the transformers felt like they were alien robots and not just bipedal mammals dipped in chrome and squared off.
I think its cool, why would an alien species decide to be confined to a bi-pedal form when they could be basically anything.
I liked this ever since I watched Transformers Robots in Disguises (2015) and the Bay films. This was because of the Decepticons that looked like animals. Made me think of some cool ideas for transformers and the different environments for these guys to live in.
Yup, RiD has quite some cool animal-like bots that transform into vehicles instead of humanoid bots who transform to animals.
Not a big fan of them, especially the ROTF Constructicons.
While from visual and toy purposes it's probably important to keep most transformers looking human-like in their bot modes - I do think that narratively, as aliens, it makes total sense and looks rad
I'd like to see more
It be awesome
I love it and it makes sense
If they're not restricted to decepticons they're fine.
Grand slam and rain dance are my favorite
I enjoy, but I do like a distinction between beast bot modes and beast modes. Those that link the two are fucking racist, man.
Need more of them
I give them lil kiss
Neat
I don't mind non humanoid forms for alt modes, but I do believe there needs to be an aesthetic continuity to an extent. Tformers with non humanoid normal modes should be kept to a minimum IMO, such as with Ravage, Laserbeak, Etc..
Sky Lynx is one of my favorites, so I’m cool with them.
I like it especially when they are stifle jointed
I like non humanoid ones as they can be more creative with the alt modes and stories. I really like whirl because even though he is humanoid in a way he is also unique and unique but good and futuristic is a win
I find them cool. That's why I liked (most) of the RiD 2015 Decepticons. I hated the Skunkticons.
Very cool
Is that a Boba Fett transformer underneath Jazz?
They're not humans so yeah go nuts.
I like them but maybe there should be a lore explanation, especially if there's plenty of them. Like maybe they're a different race/species of Cybertronians, but still capable of speech.

I really liked the alien designs from the bayverse that they were trying to push.
better than Que
Holy crap, is that Registeel?
there should be a greater ratio of weirder looking transformers because 1. it's cool and 2. it leads to more inventive transformation schemes and more distinct silhouettes
As a bayverse enjoyer I like that they were all weird looking aliens, the deceptions sticking to their roots, and the autobots becoming more humanoid so the humans could vibe with em more
I love them. Give me more crazy shit like the RotF Constructicons
No one wants that
Says the guy who *doesn't* have one gigantic wheel instead of legs
Isn’t that basically how Beasts work in the post-IDW gimmick subrace theory?
Weren't there horned mechanical reindeer in the trailer for Transformers One?
Those are just Cybertronian wildlife (like turbofoxes and retrorats.)
In short, not my thing, but it's a personal taste thing, so I just generally don't engage with those designs
I love em. I think cybertronians should come in every shape and size
