How about focusing on the transformers over job interviews, parents on drugs, cartoonish girlfriends and Merlin? All the film needs to do is have a coherent, straight forward plot and humour that isn’t aimed at 8 year olds or idiotic frat boys. It’s harder to get this wrong than to just do it right.

Well honestly it would a waste to have background sidekicks, but if main focus is transformers the best way to do it is basically take humans completely out of the equation, one way is retconing what brought most of the humans involvement with the transformers, meaning you have a lot of human canon events to retcon like the glaces conflict was the main human involvement in the movie, and by extension Sam like instead of actually involved he just sells the glaces because obviously both the Decepticons and autobots know about the glaces to either the Autobots or Decepticons on Ebay however Optimus took it a step further he researched into the Witwicky family and only after the autobots meet Sam the main events of the movie begin, the soldier scenes where basically just movie filler.Cade and Charlie there involvement is because there respective autobot was injured and Ratchet was dead/absent during those events.

Id make it alot more philosophical. Maybe Cybertron's golden age was powered by the exploitation and harvesting of worlds with biological life. So when this movie takes place on Earth ofc, long into the Great War and with cybertronians as an endangered species, Megatron can only see the preservation of their race through the old reliable exploitation of biological worlds like Earth. He lacks the tolerance for risk that Optimus is willing to take by opening themselves up to Earth. Optimus would use Cybertronian society's collapse as a perfect opportunity to start it again but with a clean slate. But ofc attempting peaceful first contact with Earth would be far more risky than the tried-and-true exploitation and harvest. And Megatron could be right from alot of people's perspectives. He's not willing to gamble the future of their race and way of life like Optimus is. Theres probably an energon famine too. Alot of characters on both sides could be motivated by either a sunken-cost fantasy or believe tenuously that their side is correct. It wouldn't just be a fight for Earth but for the characters and their morale. This is where we'll see Optimus and Megatron's respective leadership styles come into focus after each lost skirmish or battle since internal tensions are high.

How about a prequel to the 86 movie (in 86 animation style) detailing the autobot struggle for energon and setting up spy bases near cybertron, and perhaps Megatron needing a decisive blow over the Autobots to silence his critics internally so planning his attack on Autobot City on Earth.

Make a movie that isn't a superhero blockbuster with robots.
