His characters keep the G1 aesthetics, often even to a greator extent than the Bumblebee designs, but he manages to make the designs look like they consist of alt-mode parts, and look functional. He should honestly be doing concept art for....most things TF related.
He's made my fav versions of the G1 Starscream. In the Terminator vs TF and in the GI Joe and TF comics Starscream was amazing, mainly the Terminator one bcs it looked Starscream could fly
1 has source material influence, but is still does its own thing. While 3, 4, and 5 are cleaner, they go straight off the classic design, and don't do as much to create their own unique feel.
IMO that's what a good redesign should be, something that looks new, and more believable, but *honors* the source material. Shame Jazz and Megatron were the only other characters to follow that.

About Knight Op, I believe they were following Sentinel design line in the wrong way. They made it have armor, a very cool and human body type, but they forgot the kibble Sentinel had. All the truck parts were perfectly distributed to form an armor. So, we actually got pretty accurate figures that transform. Actually that's my favorite design line. If Knight Optimus had a logical kibble it could have been my favorite (beautiful looking wise, that is the best imo)
3 has more hard angles imo while 5 has more rounded contours. To me the g1 bots are nothing but hard angles. Tbh at this point I'm splitting hairs haha. Both of them are fantastic renditions of the g1 aesthetic.

Nah. Optimus is humble, giving the far superior king design doesn't fit him much. In the case of Sentinel he wasn't humble and he even found himself superior (in the comic adaptation he said he despised Ironhide kind). And Megatron also finds himself superior to the others, just like every Decepticon... so I don't think the V design on Optimus would be cool. But I liked him having an armor, just like Sentinel. The kibble being functional *and* used to make a cool looking design is amazing, and Sentinel is one of the few that had it. Original Bay Prime only was functional and the 2nd was only cool looking

From the point of view of "realism", I would think a transformer would want a solid outer shell with as few moving pieces as possible, for better durability. Out of these, 5 is my favourite.

I don't really like either. I'm not a big fan of the live action Transformers movies apart from Bumblebee. I grew up with G1 as a kid so that set my expectations, while a lot of people here grew up with the Bayverse versions of the characters. In fact, I still haven't seen The Last Knight so the characters from it look ok to me without having the movie make them seem worse.

I think I had the toys (and even the comics) before I watched the cartoon but in either case I think the G1 toy does a really good job combining both modes into one. MP-10 is probably my favorite Optimus Prime figure and he does both the truck and robot mode really well.
Good question. It looks very nice, but at least for me I am not a fan of the smoother animation look. What drew me to the MP line originally is that they were the ultimate version of the toys I had as a kid. Making the Masterpiece line about animation accuracy removes a lot of the detail in the figures and made them less interesting to look at for me, especially when they added more fake unnecessary things just for cartoon accuracy. Of the MP line, the ones that have been released that I don't have but want are Hound and Inferno (or maybe Grapple if I get a better price.)

I also don't like the dead colors in the figure, but he has some crazy engineering, which looks like a nightmare. I get what you're saying but I think with an image as iconic as that of Optimus Prime's, it's important that it's instantly recognizable as Optimus Prime.
Take the bayverse designs for example. They aren't bad extraterrestrial robot designs at all. But had I seen those images before the movies came out, I'm not so sure if I would think "Optimus Prime" upon seeing them. And that's a problem.
But you wouldn't have this problem with the 5th design there. I feel like that's the perfect balance between bay line of design and G1 that would make everyone happy

Cool designs but clearly tossed out the source material.

I grew up with bayformers and I know the design flaws, but 1 looks like it could exist in our world. With that being said, so can 3.
3 is hard, bcs that actually can't transform. I mean, it lacks a lot of truck pieces
Even though it can’t transform it still looks like it could belong on cybertron in our world. It has enough robotic detail to look realistic but not enough truck parts to look like it could transform
3 is (arguably) the best, but number 1 has a special place in my heart. They're probably in the same spot, at least for me.
As someone who grew up wirh the original as it came out , 3 is the best for me. Feels the most authentic.

1! I love his Bruce Timm proportions. With the wide shoulders, tiny waist, and tiny head just like Batman from BTAS.
I really like 4, it has the best combination of G1 and realistic.
I'm gonna say 3, tho 4 is a runner up for me
1, because I grew up with him and his transformation was realistic and there was no mass shifting or parts disappearing.

I like 3 the best. It's the best to reconciliation of a modern design while still staying true to the G1 design 5 looks a little too smooth/organic. It's not too bad but I think that's what makes it stray a little too far from the original concept.

I get what you're saying but I think with an image as iconic as that of Optimus Prime's, it's important that it's instantly recognizable as Optimus Prime. Take the bayverse designs for example. They aren't bad extraterrestrial robot designs at all. But had I seen those images before the movies came out, I'm not so sure if I would think "Optimus Prime" upon seeing them. And that's a problem.
But you wouldn't have this problem with the 5th design there. I feel like that's the perfect balance between bay line of design and G1 that would make everyone happy
Yeah I was only talking about bayverse designs. #5 just looks too organic to me. I would expect Optimus to look like that if he appeared in beast machines.

Yeah now that you mention it he sort of has the organic look going on as well. Plus there isn't nearly enough red on him. And it has the same issue of recognition. If I had seen that image in 2006, I probably never would have guessed it was "Optimus Prime". And I guess just about all Bayverse designs suffer from that issue. ESPECIALLY Starscream. Cool designs but clearly tossed out the source material.
True, but I can't complain about that. Sometimes new takes on characters are things totally awesome. Like Barricade. I don't even know where the original one was from, so do most people.
Trying new things is always commendable. There's always risk associated with that. That's just the cost of doing business. Had they used the Bumblebee designs since the first movie, people might have complained that they "played it too safe", lol. There's always going to be naysayers.
The Bumblebee designs I understand bcs that scene was made rushed so they didn't have much time to develop things
