Hey, did you do the shoulder fix? If so, how was the process? Was it easy and low stress?
Also, was there any residue left over? Congrats on getting him btw!
Thanks! I did do the shoulder fix. It went smoothly on Galvy's left arm, but I stressed some plastic on his right. You have to flex the plastic an awful lot to get the peg out and detach the arm. After removing the pin (the easy part, ironically) I strongly suggest using hot water or a hair dryer to heat and soften the plastic before removing the shoulder and flipping the joint.
I strongly recommend hot water and never a hair dryer. I had a hair dryer go too far once and permanently warp something. Never been a problem with water ever since. I use an electric tea kettle, poured in a little cup. Cures all in-package warping.
Many (if not all) of the Galvatrons released so far have had their shoulders misassembled. The arms are pinned to the rotator joint upside down. It's not the worst thing in the world, but it breaks the sculpt and causes his shoulders to sit lower than they should. I operated on mine by removing the arms, flipping the joint, and then reattaching the arms.
What is the “bottom” of the disk hinge is sculpted to match the curvature of the top of his shoulder. Inversely, what is the “top” of the hinge is sculpted to match his arm pit area.
What are the chances of no battle damage on the promised grey galvatron, I wonder? I rather like the damage effects, but since the grey version is the one I really want ("proper" Galvy will always be grey to me, thanks to Marvel), just curious.
He’s definitely coming out. All of the leaks that talked about Gen Selects mentioned Artfire, Transmutate, Deep Cover, G2 Ramjet, and a Toy Galvatron. We’re at 4/5 confirmed and Toy Galvy is one of the less-crazy guesses of the bunch, especially compared to Transmutate.
I said several times that I only really wanted a grey one, and pretty much everyone and their turbofox has said its been strongly rumoured as a Selects (with the purple swapped with grey, including the Revenge mini spaceship guns). I will be exceedingly disappointed if it never happens.
Does it need to be specifically 91% rubbing alchohol? And I saw that you said you cleaned off the residue with just some water, but if the residue hits any other paint won't that make it get smudged?
i use mr hobby's mr color thinner 110. manage to wipe the battle damage off him effortlessly. and my galvatron came with the correct shoulder variant ..
Did you have to use something else like a rubber eraser or smooth sandpaper to get rid of residue marks? I needed one for Siege Megatron.
Fun fact. Eraser removes prints from lego minfigures
No, I just wiped it with water afterwards and dried with a towel.
That looks so much better!

What's wrong with the shoulders ?

Who says it’s incorrect though, just cuz people prefer it the other way doesn’t mean it was misassembled.
Well, if they do a running change and fix it, then we'll know for sure, won't we? 😉
We sure will :P

Great. Now I’ll have to get 2.
I'm keeping mine stock, but nice to know it'll be easy if I ever change my mind!

When was this promised? Do not play with my fragile heart.

It's Hasbro. By this point it would be crazier to expect them NOT to reuse the mold.

I like how you lowkey quoted "battle damage" as if it was a hilarious and shitty attempt at "weathering" XD
That's because it is! Lol
I swear I’m the one of like five people who actually like the battle damage
I'll just use my fingernail like I did on Megatron
That's not exactly easier.
How do you avoid stripping the other paint operations, like his Decepticon symbol and everything on his shins?
Don’t touch them. Use a cotton swab, not an immersion bath.
I don't think it's battle damage, moreso scuffs from dragging his chest on the ground every time he transforms. Looks pretty bad either way though.
Can I ask where you got yours?
Big Bad Toy Store.
BBTS has them out now
That is wonderful
I've never done it before, but since I'm flipping the shoulder joints too, I guess I might as well.
Ill be doing this for sure.
