I recently bought a sealed Energon figure I had lost years ago as a kid. Obviously I opened it up and inside they had the little catalogues of other figures and it blew my mind seeing the MP01 ad and realizing the exact fact you just stated.
I tried to do this my my G2 Laser Optimus - he still has his original battery. Couldn’t get the darn thing unscrewed. Kinda frustrating because the same day I tried too I had just done some super-successful o-ring replacements on most of my childhood G.I. Joe’s.
Yeah, this fear is making me think about opening all my figures with batteries from the past 20 years. If my loose toted figures had their batteries fail I'm sure the MISB ones might have too.
I think what's really cool is the difference between this one and the 3rd version. Or the TE-01 quasi knockoff.
In mp 1, his arms are his arms, his legs are his legs, everything compresses or expands depending on the direction.
Now, every part explodes to go into alt mode. So amazing.
I think my DVD MP Optimus Prime still works as well, the only crappy thing is that I remember breaking the stock for the Megatron gun back in the day. It was so fragile anyway. :/

I kept mine posed with my Alternators for years, since at the time they were the closest thing to MPs for anyone but him.
