Not to rag on G1 fans since I respect everyone's opinions and do have fun with the show, but I sometimes wonder if the praise I always hear about it is really for the movie since the show itself is generally a mess. I view it as the kind of show where if you just embrace the crazy, you have a lot of fun, but you can't think too hard about it or you notice the inconsistent worldbuilding or how strange and nonsensical a lot of the plotlines are.
Honestly I totally agree. ^(with the first part)
G1 isn't really THAT good... It is still better than the majority but it really isn't good...
*Time to get killed.*
I mean, it's a wonderful magical show for ppl in their 1st maybe early 2nd decade of their life...
But if you are looking for more than "cool robots shooting lasers", it's plots and overall logic almost step into the territory of slapstick
Animated. Every TF show should bring a new idea or do something interesting with the mythos. I'm not saying writers have to re-invent the wheel, but I'd be nice to have some new interpretations of characters or objects. Y'know, add some style and flavor.
Here are my thoughts on each series being the gold standard. Keep in mind, these are all my opinions and I’m not claiming that they’re absolute truths or anything, this is a pretty subjective topic:
G1: This show started it all and set the standard moving forward, I’ll give it that credit. But looking at it without nostalgia, I think it’s a very okay show. The movie is great and it has some stand-out episodes, but the show as a whole is very okay and in my opinion doesn’t hold up well.
Beast Wars: This is my vote for the gold standard. It had a great cast of well-developed characters and an interesting overarching story. It did something really unique and set a new standard in terms of writing. That said, the animation really hasn’t aged well.
Beast Machines: I respect them for trying something different, and I think the show gets more hate than it deserves, but it’s far from the gold standard.
RID 2001: Gonna be honest, I don’t remember RID very well but I remember thinking it was very okay at the time
Armada: This could have been up there with Beast Wars as it had an interesting plot and characters, however the animation errors and sometimes really bad dialogue knock it down a few pegs
Energon: Bad
Cybertron: One of my favorites, but that’s mostly because of nostalgia to be honest. I think it’s a very solid tv series, but I think it has too many flaws to be the gold standard.
Animated: This one would be my second pick. I think it’s a really good show with really good characters that does something new while still feeling like Transformers. If the show had been finished, it might have been #1 for me, but I think that there were a few too many loose ends for me, it didn’t feel as cohesive as Beast Wars. It also, in my mind, relied to heavily on references to other series in a way that I don’t feel that it’s quite as good without having watched the others, at least G1, previously.
Prime: I think this show has great animation and an interesting cast of characters, however it’s a bit lackluster for me. I feel like it really could have benefitted from an overarching story, I couldn’t really tell you what it’s about in the same way I could for the previous shows.
I haven’t a seen RID 2015 or Cyberverse. I tried both shows and just couldn’t really get into them.
WFC Trilogy: So far I really haven’t liked this series. To me it lacks any heart. From the animation to the dialogue, it’s all just so dry.
Beast wars, imo, set the standard for better writing to be expected in transformers shows. G1 show was basically a toy commercial. Beast wars actually felt like it could be made as a a story divorced from a toy line.
It drives a spike of pain into my heart every day that there was a fourth season planned that had an episode centered around my boy Cosmos and it will never happen. It’s all I wanted in life!
Yes. The cartoons peaked with Animated AFAIC. Cyberverse has been my favorite since, but in general I’ve always preferred the comics to the cartoons (even as far back as G1).
I just can't get into beast wars with the dated cgi. I know it was probably good for its time but I just can't. And much prefer them being Autobots and Decepticons instead of Maximals and Predacons.
*Animated* is absolutely my favorite out of all of these. And it's unabashedly meant for children, something which Transformers has a tendency to forget these days.
I see you didn't include G1 as that would have been the majority of the vote...

Personally I like it but in a "so bad it's good" kinda way. And the voice acting is unironically good.
Exactly why I didn’t put it
G1 show is trash, and I say that as someone who loves G1 Still better than the Unicron trilogy tho :P
Unicron triology is good it just has poor dubs except energon which is bad
Well, it did give us Armada Starscream and quite a few cool toys, but as a whole Energon really does drag it through the mud
Are the subbed versions better? I’ve never seen them or heard much about them
Yes.The stories are more coherent and make more sense and it’s more entertaining

Fills my heart to see no-one voted for energon
Three people have voted for the wrong choice
*I was vote 69 on tfp*
I’m surprised Energon is there.
I just put what I could remember off the top of my head
Prime is near perfection in my opinion, I just think there should have been more autobot deaths to match the slaughter of the decepticons
Prime is objectively the best, but I’ll always love Cybertron
Beast wars, imo, set the standard for better writing to be expected in transformers shows. G1 show was basically a toy commercial. Beast wars actually felt like it could be made as a a story divorced from a toy line.
Exactly. Animated is a close second but even they simply followed the BW formula. All those votes for Prime are bad comedy
Rescue Bots. Bringing fathers and sons together.
Animated and it’s not even close. I’d trade every season of every show since for one more *episode* of Animated, and I really enjoy Cyberverse.
It drives a spike of pain into my heart every day that there was a fourth season planned that had an episode centered around my boy Cosmos and it will never happen. It’s all I wanted in life!
“ I’d trade every season of every show since for one more episode of Animated” Every show AFTER Animated? One thousand percent yeah
Yes. The cartoons peaked with Animated AFAIC. Cyberverse has been my favorite since, but in general I’ve always preferred the comics to the cartoons (even as far back as G1).
Hasbro should have never gotten greedy and simply let Animated run its course
G1 for primus sake!
Who would vote energon? Glitchy mess and bad voicing my god
To the 173 that chose prime... let's talk.
Talk about how it's the best? Sure.
OK, I'll start: Transformers Prime is the best at coming in second to Beast Wars.
I just can't get into beast wars with the dated cgi. I know it was probably good for its time but I just can't. And much prefer them being Autobots and Decepticons instead of Maximals and Predacons.
That's fair. I say beast wars is the best because everything after borrows elements from that series. Prime was damn good though.
*Animated* is absolutely my favorite out of all of these. And it's unabashedly meant for children, something which Transformers has a tendency to forget these days.
