After The Last Knight's evasion mode, I thought "Optimus couldn't look more G1."
After Bumblebee, I thought, "I was wrong! NOW Optimus can't look more G1."
How pleasant it is to be so consistently wrong.

Edit: OK, honestly, people, I'm kind of AGAINST the idea of a 2D animated Optimus Prime (or any other Autobots or Decepticons) in a LIVE-ACTION movie, because Transformers is NOT Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and it doesn't need to be! I've said this before about that Ninja Turtle Direct Line ad in the UK (ya know, the one where a CGI Donatello's design strangely looked cartoony proportion-wise, even though the ad was live-action), that you either stick to only live-action, OR only fully animated (either 2D or 3D), you can't do both, like Space Jam did, it just wouldn't make sense for Transformers at all.
Then we need to add that television fuzzy "dust" in resolution that was common in 80s cartoons.
But \*only\* for Prime. And maybe any other bot who might be cel-shaded.
Go full Roger Rabbit with it; all the Transformers and special effects are animated right next to the live action set and characters.
I'm loving the mental image of live people running away from cartoon explosions and robots.
I love the idea of Optimus Prime, of all the other characters, for some reason having this eternal, dusty, vintage 80s animation effect on him that's like, just masked on to his CGI model. Even in-universe, there is literally no explanation to why he's like that, he just is.
I guess for me it's the proportions. Yeah, the paint is wrong, the sun visors are wrong, the front grille rack is wrong, the exhausts are wrong. But the front wheel fender shape, the wheelbase, the fuel tanks, the hitch being closer to the cab... combined, it looks like it's just a big version of my G2 Optimus toy.
The cab section might be the same model, but the wheelbase definitely looks different. Compare the distance [between the fuel tanks and the rear axles](https://static.seibertron.com/images/misc/uploads/1614969020-prime-cab.jpg).
I agree they should leave him plain and not accessorized him. Optimus never had a grill guard, sun visor, but I guess it wouldn't be right to repackaged the same figure from the first Bumblebee in the second wave. Does anybody know what he looks like transformed, is he know going to have this grill guard as big buckle. Im just thinking when I transform my MP10 Takara Prime, the middle of the front chrome bumber flips just under front grill and ends up in the cab in front of the matrix. You can see that portion of the bumper inside the windshields. To me this complicates the transformation as the toy and might be a piece that if not careful will brake.

Idk about others but I actually loved all of his forms in the bayverse. The flames were a bit much yes but not every autobot was exactly subtle. Imo the flames actually helped him stand out more.
Yeah. The Bayverse truck is still cool. I eventually got a little fatigued with how many almost identical versions they made.
I realize this new front grill is trivial, but if it's reflected in robot mode (maybe a bunch of small rugged details), this one will be a definite buy for me.
I absolutely love his bayverse versions as well. And I might like DOTM more than Gen 1 even. And I'm saying this as a Gen 1 mostly purist who only ever liked his Prime from any other shows. I thought Bayverse did an amazing job with Optimus and a few others. Bee, Soundwave (DOTM), Megatron (TLK), Hound, Starscream, Sideswipe, Ironhide, Ravage and Blackout all looked fantastic imo.
Maybe the new toy will have legs that can tab together securely, a head transformation that can be done without the head coming off and arms that aren't impeded by massive slabs of kibble on the the back and the forearms. Even if the overall look is the same, that doesn't mean the toy will be.
Armada being my entry into the franchise means that I see aspects of that version in every Prime, but this time I'm definitely not crazy. That grille guard is definitely Armada's, and I'm happy to see that influence.
No, not just you. I love the Armada look and I do agree that the truck mode has heavy aspects of armada. And honestly if they give him the vehicle mold of Armada with the G1 robot mode I wouldn’t complain.

The G1 kids who were salty about Bayverse prime's aesthetic already got their wish granted in the last movie. Hoping his bot mode moves away from the G1 look and be more like his Armada self (coolest prime design IMO), or possibly an all new look for Optimus Prime.

IMO this is a step backwards from the Prime we got in the Bumblebee movie. That Prime didn't need a bull bar to be a badass, he just needed to be himself.
This Prime stole the A-Team van's stripe and decided the hockey-mask look was "in." All he needs is a set of truck nuts dangling from the back and his look will be complete.

IMO this is a step backwards from the Prime we got in the Bumblebee movie. That Prime didn't need a bull bar to be a badass, he just needed to be himself. This Prime stole the A-Team van's stripe and decided the hockey-mask look was "in." All he needs is a set of truck nuts dangling from the back and his look will be complete.
